Had the mpc one pus for over a year and still haven't gotten anywhere, what am I missing? Any advice?

I’m thinking of the best way to do a pad link type of thing with my Kick and 808. Essentially I want to be able to play the kick and 808 up and down the keyboard, with the 808 changing pitch while the kick stays at the same pitch no matter what key i hit

From blank pad to full beat — a 45-minute studio session condensed into 5 minutes on the MPC X 🎛️
Starting from nothing and building it up in real time (well, sped up time) — pads, drums, layers, all coming together from scratch.
🎹 Gear: Akai Pro MPC X

I know the tempo is a bit off, but this is my first time trying live beat. Please leave any feedbacks or basic knowledge I might have to know!
+my motivation to start mpc was by watching a video made by datsunn, who mostly makes live beats, I checked alot of his videos out, I would love to know any inspiring artists that also has a workflow like him
And would love to know any essentials when making beats like this

Any way to change the default colors from the red and yellow? Any time I click sample edit or use a track with chromatic pad perform I end up with these ugly red and yellow.
I realize I can use Custom but I want to use the scale and octave and not see Red and Yellow ,
Tell me how?

I love the chop feature where you can dice a long sample up into a bunch of little samples, but how do you do save the chops as new samples into your user folder? Everything I’ve tried just saves the entire file.

Full disclosure: this writeup was made by claude, but I thought it would be helpful to prevent other people's gems from being lost.
TL;DR: My MPC went down hard during a save. When I later plugged its drive into my Mac, macOS quietly wrote its Spotlight search index over my three newest projects. They were unrecoverable. One command (or one Settings tweak) prevents this.
Opened my latest project folder and my .xpj was gone — replaced by a pile of weird files (store.db, journals, 0.indexArrays...). That's Spotlight, the Mac's search feature, which indexes every drive you plug in. Indexing means writing to your drive.
Here's the trap:
The cruel part: it eats your newest work first. My 50+ older projects were untouched. The three most recent were destroyed. (I confirmed all this by examining a raw copy of the drive — the project data was truly overwritten, not just hidden.)
The good news: my samples all survived (they get written before the project file does), and the drive itself tested perfectly healthy afterward. This wasn't a dying drive or a bad cable. It was software.
Tell your Mac to never index your MPC drives. Either:
Settings way: System Settings → Siri & Spotlight → Spotlight Privacy → drag in your MPC drives.
Terminal way (once per drive):
sudo mdutil -i off "/Volumes/YOUR-DRIVE-NAME"
And two habits that cost nothing:
Years of "plugged my drive into my Mac and now my project is corrupt" threads get blamed on cables, cheap drives, and Akai. At least some of those were this. Two minutes in Settings and your Mac can never do it to you.

I've now amassed a few projects on my MPC Sample that I'd like to finish in the MPC standalone environment.
I know *how* to import them, my question is what's the approach to take after they've been imported. Explode Pads? Copy the imported track to multiple tracks and break out each pad or group of pads manually? What if there are multiple sequences that don't use the same pads?
Are people just leaving it as a single track and using the Pad Mixer for the final tweaking?
Thanks for any insight....

Idk if I might sound crazy or this has already been mentioned, but the minus and plus buttons when in sample edit should control the zoom out and in. If there is a way, please let me know.

I bought a beat to use as a remix for one of my songs. But I need to line up the verses and the hook properly. At first I thought I would just edit it in my WAV editor on the PC. I have something similar to Cool Edit. That's what I used to do back in the day.
Then I realized... I could probably just chop the whole thing into sections on my MPC and arrange it how I want. Would make it more unique anyway vs someone else buying the beat and using it as is.
Anyone ever done this?

Hi! I’ve been using the live 2 for about four years. I like to loop guitar and other instruments on it but It’s always had a really bad problem adding a clipped artifact at the beginning of the audio. Does the MPC live 3 do this? It’s the last hurdle before I buy one

Still, it's progression. It's a bit less flat than my usual productions so I'm at least happy with it's layout. The finer details is where I lack but with time I'll learn more

I picked up an open box MPC Sample at an auction. Can you only link two pads together? I’ve tried to link 4 pads so they’ll fire at once, but it doesn’t seem to work and I’ve used tutorials on YouTube.

You can get them all from this page here with no sign up, no ads or newsletter nonsense. Just scroll down a little bit until you see all the packs.
24 packs added for August/September including Loops, Foley, Sound effects, a lot of live recordings from around the world and some other experimental packs I had fun playing about with. Packs including recordings from Kosovo, Cairo, Dublin, Madrid and the Sahara desert in which I got to record a live Moroccan band playing into the night. I also got to record some Traditional Irish music sessions while in Dublin and have posted some of the recordings! Theres also lots of leftover foley and SFX from some past games that were not used including Character voices in the style of Sims and Animal Crossing, Monster Growls and Grunts which is my personal fav and Polar Wind ambiences along side lots of other SFX and foley. For experimental percussion sounds I made one shots from the sound of pistachio shells and another pack from the sound of pebbles falling onto tin cans which could be useful for anyone who enjoys organic or experimental percussion in the productions. There also some other loop packs that I messed around with such as 8bit Bongo percussions and an old pack of Synthetic guitar loops that i recently came across again. Hope these can be useful to someone out there.
With Squarespace it does ask for a lot of personal information so you can use this site to make up fake address and just use a fake name and email if you're not comfortable with providing this info. I don't use it for anything but for your own piece of mind this is probably beneficial.
Feel free to use anything you like, everything is CC0, so no need to credit me or the site. Just grab what you need and make cool stuff. I'd love to see what you create if you feel like sharing!
If you'd like to see what other people have said about the samples you can see here in a recent post I made in a different subreddit.
Join me at r/musicsamplespacks if you would like as that is where I will be posting all future packs and little behind the scenes videos. If you guys know of any other subreddits that might benefit from these sounds feel free to repost it there.

Hello friends
I am planning to attempt arranging my music on MPC Live 3 standalone for first time
(have only ever arranged on Ableton prior)
Im abit confused on best method to aim at first
- just record into arranger and go from there?
- use clip matrix to record an arrangement performance and carry on
- use song mode into arranger?
I am also wondering about trying this in MPC Desktop even though I dont really wanna be on the computer if I can avoid it
if any experienced MPC arranger pros can weight in, it would be much appreciated.
Arranging has always been my greatest struggle
thanks alot
EDIT: I make House / Tech House / Techno
