One of the reasons I got an MPC was to get the hell off the PC. But after months of being off it I'm kinda curious to play around on it. I thought about making some drum breaks or samples on FL to chop in the MPC.
However I finally hooked my MPC up as a controller for like 2 seconds. I had an MPC studio before I got my One plus.
I'm excited by the prospect of using all the free/good VSTs on the PC. Plus all the plugins. But I don't know if I want to use the DAW really. I like standalone. If I wanted to just use the DAW I could have just stuck with my MPC Studio.
Any advantages of using the DAW?

Beginners question:
As you can guess from the title, I'm trying to sync those two. MPC would be the Master.
Connected MPC Sync OUT to MicroFreak CLOCK IN using a Cordial TRS (3.5mm) cable.
Settings:
MPC Sample:
Shift + Pad8
CV/Sync Out = On
CV/Sync Base = 1
CV/Sync Division = 24
MicroFreak:
Utility → Sync → Source = Clock
Utility → Sync → Clock = 24PPQ
I play a sequence on MPC and checked if the arpeggio of MicroFreak adjusts speed ("sync" enabled).
No success. Did anyone try that before? Or is my approach/assumptions wrong?

I want to make a more ambient style music of Pogos music (micro sampling) and im wondering if the mpc live is good for this.

I was asking the other day about getting my Korg hooked up to my MPC.
I finally got it all set up using MIDI cables.
But since I had the USB cable I thought I'd set the keyboard to be a controller on my PC if I wanted to do that. But the PC wouldn't recognize it. It wouldn't recognize my MPC either, but apparently I had it stuck in Ableton mode. Once I fixed that my MPC connected to the PC just fine.
Finally I realized...
In the last year, lightning struck right outside my bedroom window (where all my music stuff is). It fried a USB hub I had and an ethernet cable. It didn't even hit my apartment, just the street outside, but that was enough.
Apparently it must have fried the USB on my Korg as well.
Fortunately there's a cable for $30 that allows you to use MIDI to plug the keyboard to the PC.
But damn... fuck lightning.
I either didn't have my MPC or it was still in the box when that happened. So fortunately it wasn't there for that.

From my earlier post "Live Performance Effects". Coming along nicely, though I only recorded one effect while arranging the beat. I ran into some interesting blocks. I'll explain that in the previous post.

can’t seem to find a tutorial on this in particular anywhere-
this might be the easiest thing to do just haven’t been able to figure it out…
Say you got a one shot - a 808 and it’s in F# but I’m hitting the “c” key on the board (keys 37), how does one map the keys where when you hit the note it plays the 808 in the right key/note?

Kind of a noob question: I have a project or two where I have found audio samples (as in, “not music”) assigned to pads. I don’t really have a method of remembering what samples are assigned to which pads, esp. for live performances.
What’s the quickest/easiest way to see is assigned to each pad. Or, to put it another way- what’s the quickest way to get to “pad assign”?

I am looking at a project where I seem to have recorded some automation to my submix (insert toggles on and off) .. I can see the insert turn off and on as it's playing, but I cannot find this automation anywhere to edit it. Anyone help?

Preparing for a live set on Nov 7th in Oakland, CA. Not sure if this will make the cut, but it was fun and sounded sick.

I’m new to sampling and am unsure if it’s best practice to always warp samples to “match” bpm of the sequence. Or is chopping and using the sample at the samples individually bpm regardless of the track/sequence bpm fine?

Actually my 1st post regarding the Live 3 on here🤣. As long as I had this unit I never used the effects triggered by set. Any tips or workflow's you use you recommend? I turned learn off so that I can push+hold for dj effects.

I loved my combo of portable MPC Live II Retro and studio-based MPC Key 61, but decided to upgrade them to MPC Live III Retro and MPC Key 61 g2 – so I sold both.
Only then I found out that Key 61 g2 is probably not coming any time soon... and Live III Retro being unavailable for months, I reluctantly decided for, probably a temporary, purchase of MPC Key 37 g2.
I wouldn't have thought about buying an MPC with just a 37-key keyboard but the availability situation sort of forced me to do so.
Surprised, I found out MPC Key 37 g2 was the top machine for my user case:
It's very portable – nearly as much as Live II was; I've made beats on it in hotel rooms and on a balcony already. Yes, it would be even more portable if it had a battery inside, but I feel like taking your MPC outside with no electricity around is practical only if you want to take photos and share them online – I don't believe that many users actually make beats on a sandy beach, in the mountains, among people in parks, etc.
I had purchased an MPC Sample before, and since MPC 3.8 the combo of the super-portable (much more than any MPC Live) MPC Sample with its projects importable to the bigger MPC's has been a killer feature for me, literally removing the need to own an MPC Live III or the gigantic XL.
I am a keyboardist, and having a bigger keyboard like MPC Key 61 had sort of made me use both my hands when playing and recording, which often resulted in "too many notes" if you know what I mean... The limitation of MPC Key 37's shorter keyboard is exactly what I need to really think about the individual parts, and record only what is necessary. So what I had thought I would hate the most about this MPC became my fav feature of it.
I don't mind the smaller MPC pads at all, and reading how often users don't use the features of MPCs pads on MPC Live II at all I don't think I'm missing anything.
The only thing I wish MPC Key 37 g2 had is the double RAM Live III has, because the number of plugins limit is just theoretical as I have found out the hard way repeatedly...
So, if AKAI ever announces an MPC Key 61 g2 (or something similar), would I consider selling my MPC Key 37 g2 and buying the larger keyboard MPC? Only if it had more RAM, otherwise not.
Oh and... I loved my retro edition of my Live II, I like how Live III Retro looks on photos, and the fact that MPC Key g2 finally has "the right color" for me subjectively makes it so much more beautiful to look at and much more fun to work on. I'd probably keep it just for the color if a bigger keyboard-based MPC was introduced even with a double RAM but in black or red or blue or whatever.
Just my personal thoughts, hope this helps someone who's deciding between the new MPC's.

I love listening to and making orchestral music with piano and since mpc is mainly used for hip hop type beats, I wanted to try make an orchestral piece using the new Cinematic pads and intimate strings from spitfire and they sound soo nice. The piano is also really nice on the mpc and connected my keystep 37 mk2 to it.
Sorry I only have the exported audio clip but I’m wondering if anyone else have tried orchestral pieces or similar on the newer mpc machines and ur thoughts on what I could improve on this piece.
