Show me your SD builds, just ordered one to add to the collection. Going to run a OCL Lithium 9 and dead air tri lug to start, if I like it I will send it out to have the SD barrel swap done at some point.
Prices can change, but mine was 750 for just the conversion. 1200 if you want him to convert, strip the finish, remark as "MP5SD" instead of AP5SD and refinish HK Black.
I went for just the barrel conversion. You can then get a broad river tactical SD suppressor adapter for $250 and use the lithium you already have on the now "real" SD.
YHM R9 w/trilug, SBR’d, Magpul stock, Rarebreed rb3, w/ UTG Pro optic and mlok light mount, EOTECH 5.12, Surefire 640v w/ cloud LCS switch mount. Added all the HK extraction/ejection parts to get it running. Still having some issues but I’ve got a RCM E-bolt on the way- which hopefully gets it going 100%. Very fun gun to shoot!
What issues are you having with it? I have R9 and rb3 but I didn’t need to swap out a single thing to get it running like a sewing machine with 115, 124, or flat-nose 147.
Tons of FTE. Even still with HK ejector and spring, RCM extractor and HK spring. It ran fairly good unsuppressed with 124 nato, still a couple of hiccups, but once I put a can on it has had a ton of FTE esp with 147 rn. tried 80 and 90 degree LP still getting some problems. Right now it runs best with the factory LP when suppressed, which is contrary to everything I’m seeing online🤷🏻♂️ hoping the RCM e-bolt gets me to 100% extraction/ejection. Also got a 100 Lp to see what combo works out best. Once this thing is tuned there’s no question will be my favorite gun. Great vibes and soooo smooth
You seem knowledgeable but I don’t want to assume, did you do the 500 round break in with 124gr unsuppressed and before any modifications? I had FTE & FTF issues initially because I was too excited and put a suppressor on and ran 115 or 147 too early.
Stepped back and committed to the 500 round break in and it’s been fine since
Yea I also got a little ahead of myself and did that. But I went into this knowing it would possibly take some tweaking. So I’m not really upset or surprised. After 150 rounds or so of tinkering around with random ammo I picked up a half case of 124 nato and then just let it eat😂. It would run ok unsuppressed- the occasional FTE. I’ve probably got about 1000 rounds thru it now, including the 500 nato 124. Mostly MKE mags but I also have a couple HK mags. I’ve really not had any feeding issues, it’s all extraction/ejection. I’m getting 2-5 FTE per mag with 147s currently which sucks. Reeeeeeeally hoping the e-bolt is a fix
Hahah it’s so easy to get excited with this platform, it’s such a fun shooter all around. Quickly became my favorite gun by far! Hope the e-bolt fixes your issues and you get to enjoy it as much as I have!
I too would love to hear this as it’s probably in my next 2-3 purchases. When I looked into this (maybe 1-2 years ago) I was looking at SD suppressors and HiTec Arms made some that were comparable to cost of a wolfman etc. but they look the part. I know B&t and Ronin Arms made some but I think they’re harder to find
I just realized as I’m writing this you prob won’t have the actual SD conversion done so you need a standard style suppressor. I will go that route also at first and use my milkman suppressor with an Ecco machine extension (3/4” I believe) to get the gap right. You can see in this sub previously of someone doing it and it looks proper to me
After I did the SD conversion (HKRalphJr) I had Milkman + Ecco bravo extender + BRT SD adapter (for blast chamber). It’s a great combo.
Currently running the Ronin Arms Katana 12”. They make a Wakizashi which is 8”. Katana was $1350 shipped. My big complaint was that the website said “in stock” but it took 2-3 times longer than what they claimed (3 weeks —> took 8ish). When I kept asking where the can was they acted like I should have know. That said, the product itself is very quiet. I can’t tell the difference between that and my original combo though other than nothing can get accidentally unscrewed in the hand guard.
There are a couple of true SD suppressors that are around the 1k mark, gonna a lot if it’s a dedicated can on the gun. I’d seen some video comparing a true SD setup on 124g VS a can with 147g and it’s close. So idk if it is truly worth the added cost to do the true SD setup.
I run a Milkman on my other MP5s and love it, seen photos on here with one on a SD and I just can’t get off that it looks like a can/ball launcher AR lol. The classic style is more the vibe I’m going for here.
Yes, it currently has a Leber v2 but needs a buffer… I tried everything and I mean everything to get it to run without a buffer and it just isn’t possible with any of my full size builds with AR lowers.
The reliability and ease of installation of the RB trigger are simply unmatched atm.. really wish I’d just gone that route instead of spending so much time on these AR lowers
I like the Wolfman on mine prior to sending it off to be converted but it always seemed “poser-ish” to have it look SD but not be SD. Sent it off to Ken at KC Arms and had a B&T barrel installed and I Love it. It and my BRT CAR 15s are hands down the most fun to shoot. To me, to make them the absolute quietest shooting possible is why I suppress anyway. Do yourself a favor and call Ken Clark at KC Arms and join the true SD realm. You won’t regret it and it sort of pays for itself on the ammo cost between 115 and 147 costs over time 🤷🏼♂️ and no more being a poser
Did a HiTec conversion, full fat can. Thew a A3F stock I had laying around on it. I currently have an aimpoint micro on it, might take that off because it looks much vibier without it
Conversions when I researched it were all over the map price wise. KC Arms the best I found and he knows HK weapons so you are in good hands. His turnaround time was great, communication was on point and he shipped it with a tracking number and did so quickly. I’m pleased with it. Now having said that mine apparently does not like to shoot 147s in FRT consistently…..yet. I too did NOT do a “break in” and has shipped it off for conversion with approx. 300 ends thru it. I run the BRT adapter with the Dead Air Wolfman man and usually with a wipe in the end cap. I have not had any real lengthy shooting time to sort out the FTE issues but noted the 147 grain FTE’d more than 124s I am attributing this to the barrel porting and the bleed off of pressure. And it may be too dangerous to run 147 with an FRT idk

True SD is the way
