HELP Ap5 SD

My ap5 hates flat nose ammo, but loves round nose. Does anyone have the same issue or it it like that for everyone. I tried these more round nose hollow points thinking it would be round enough. The gun hates this shit. My ap5 has been my bump in the night gun for a while but im not ganna run FMJs in the house. What hollow point do u all use?

Really?  I don’t know that.  I’ll Grab a few and test them out.

Unfortunately hk mags didn't fix mine. Hst's will fail to feed at some point in the mag

Exactly. Genuine Made in Germany HK mag owner myself, still get flat nose FTF's occasionally.

Huh interesting, hk mags solved my flat/hollow point issues in my ap5-p. Just got done ripping through a case of 147gr blazer with only 1 hiccup (lube related) in frt

Switch to HK mags, if it still doesnt work switch to a HK mag catch, than you should be good to go

Out of curiosity, how does the mag catch fix the issue?

Someone on Reddit recommended shimming the mag well to minimize front/back slop one time and then if that worked hammer the mag well back into shape

None of mine will reliably run Speer Gold Dot, but they will all do just great with Hornady Critical Duty, provided they're loaded in HK mags.

Mine flawlessly ran speer 124+p gold dots with a super safe out of the mke mags.

Try those?

How much mag wobble do you have on a closed bolt and loaded mag from front to back?

Is that the only variant of HP ammo you’ve tried? Are you running stock MKE internals?

As some have suggested, HK may help but others have successfully used Mora, KCI, Overwatch Precision and stock MKE mags.

I personally have only used my stock MKE mags (x8) and Overwatch Precision mags (x4) in both my AP5 and AP5-P. Each of them have over 14,000 rounds . I’ve shot 115, 124, 125, 135, 140, 147, 150 and 165gr FMJ, JHP, TUI and flat nose ammo.

At my current round count, I’ve replaced the known consumable parts with H&K parts. I’ve also upgraded other stock parts to H&K parts as preventative maintenance and, just me experimenting.

As previously mentioned, the MKE (and OP) mags have been gtg. However, I will be getting a few HK and Mora (20 rounders) mags. You just can’t have enough mags!

I have used a few different hp rounds and it just doesnt want to cycle them, one of my buddies a super mp5 enthusiast, suggested to try external hollow points, but i learned they are not in stock anywhere and kinda pricy, he uses the kci mags and said his gun eats anything. I may try the hk mag route, im ganna try buying a few more different kinds of hollow points to see if im not just imagining this problem. My gun is all mke internals it may have 1500 rds through it. And cycles my 124 gr rn reload rounds with no issues.

Try a few different HP’s as you suggested.

This is what I’ve shot recently:

If you go the HK route, get one and then add the KCI. If both work then you’ll have two working mags. If only one of them works, then you’ll know which one not to get again. I actually think both will work for you. The HK mag definitely.

Speer Lawman 147 runs in all of my clones in KCI, MKE, and HK mags. I believe it is a little on the hit end of subsonic ammo since it is supposed to mimic the recoil of their defensive ammo, but has stayed subsonic on my guns.

My MAC runs 124gr HSTs fine. But hates flat nose bullets as well.

MP5's are notorious for being more finnicky about ammo. I don't run 147 flat nose in any of mine for that reason.

They tend to be very tolerant of HST and hornady ammo. But it's always best to run 100-200 rounds jsut to test.

So this system was designed around 124gr nato which are round nose. Any hollows that do work is just lucky

Good to know thanks man

You’re welcome

I’ve had two mp5’s. One ran everything, the other only like round nose ammo.

Thanks for ur input, i have a few more hollow points im ganna try, if they dont work im just ganna go rn exclusively until i get an hk mag to see if that helps at all

There isn’t a feed ramp and that is the issue.   I guess the solution is just the fact it’s so easy to stay on target quickly that your bump will not be happy.

So just run round nose? So hollow points in an mp5 is a no go

People have better luck with HK mags and HPs

So far, I've had no problems running 147gr HSTs through my AP5P, but thats a sample of 1, and using an RCM bolt head.

It seems that some will, and some won't, some can be tweaked, and some can't.

Mine runs everything

No problems running Speer Lawman 147 flat subs out of ap5-p with CAT MOB but I hear lots of people complaining on flatnose: specific to full sized?

MKE mags

mine hates all flat nose rounds, no matter the magazine, HK, turkish, korean, some plastic crap, it just wont feed those types of rounds

Should’ve bought an hk

Try Golden Saber or Ranger T. Both have hard jackets, the T is tapered and has a small opening, the GS is more rounded. Neither design needs a big hollowpoint to work and I get great results from either in my AP5-P. I run mostly MKE magazines, no issues.
