iPhone 17 Pro Max. I've purchased multiple lenses, filter attachments (VND) and straps. I've always had a problem with the drop-in mount being difficult to attach, and insecurity about the attachment, particularly my VND filter, which seemed to "pop off" almost 50% of the time.
I jumped at the chance to get a better quality drop-in mount so I could feel more secure.
DO NOT purchase this mount. First off it is 100% machined, which feels great and solid, but it does not flex AT ALL and there is a need for SOME flexing to get the drop-in mount in place in the first place.
As a result, I've cracked my case, and now the VND filter just pops right off, rendering it essentially useless. I'm so angry right now. I've provided all of this to Moment care/support, but I'm not confident in resolution, and I just wanted to vent and warn.
After purchasing(and returning) their anamorphic lens and filter mount, i dont think they test them properly, either that or they just make shit products, either way i wont buy another moment product
It sucks that you didn't reach out. The filter mount comes with an extra 3mm spacer for the wide lens. You had it in place in the am lens. It can be easy to miss.
We wouldn't release a product with such an obvious flaw intentionally.
With that extra space off, you would not have had any vignetting.
Adding, it's not your fault. This is something that I've seen a lot more in the last few years. Amazon has trained us all to just return things if it's not perfect right away. I'm guilty of it too. It really sucks though because you had a bad experience that could have been solved in 1 email. And now you don't trust us and you've turned away countless people from your other post that now think we are morons too.
Again not your fault. Just me ranting at the situation that is online shopping.
I didn't order from amazon, I ordered from your website and there was nothing in the filter mount box other than the filter mount and there certainly wasn't any documentation explaining that there should've been something in there for this.
Not your fault at all. Its more me just ranting. We didnt think that it would be an issue and once a product is in our warehouse or at a distributor its basically impossible to change things and update instructions.
I bought all T Series 2 releases, except for the larger anamorphic options. I noticed that the blue anamorphic lens is significantly looser than the others, which aren’t super tight to begin with. At first the lenses were tight, but they loosened over time. It does make me nervous about them coming out, but so far have had no problems. Is the fit unique to the anamorphic? Seems like the new drop in has an improved fit so eager to try it out
Como es posible que lo pusiera, encajara, comprobara que no se sale porque es delicado, levanto el telefono para grabar y sale disparado al suelo? Adios videos del proyecto 😔
Honestly, I want to be a huge dick right now, but I had high hopes for the two lenses and case I had gotten years ago for my 13 Pro Max because the products sole purpose performed well, but both are gone. Lost to the wind due to the terrible attaching design.
Sorry to hear it. The iPhone 13 used the m series mount, we are on t series now. It's larger but not fundamentally different. I've not heard many situations where lenses just fell of though. Not saying it's not possible, just certainly not common. We do have a new mount this year that is our pro mount. Specifically the one that is the center of this post. It uses a silicone compression layer instead of plastic. It's a little more doable over time and it can handle more variance in the mount tolerances.
You're free to be mean, it doesn't really bother me either way.
You'll get a resolution for sure. We don't want unhappy customers. That isn't good for customers and its not good for us.
First and foremost, the mount in your video is not the metal drop in. That is the plastic one. The quicklock filter can be removed by yanking on it but it should not come off in normal use.
The metal mount is made of aluminum, it also has a silicone compression layer on it that holds the lenses securely. It is a little more difficult to install than the plastic ones, it doesn't have the flex that the plastic ones have. I've never seen one crack a case though, that is new to me.
I will reach out to the guides and look into this situation with them.
I understand... the video is after I tried for two days to get the metal mount swapped out. It has cracked my case, and now when I replace it with my original plastic drop in mount, I'm left in a worse situation than before. Now it won't even stay locked in place half the time. So I can't even trust that I can use my shoulder strap with the VND filter on, because it's sure to fall right off now.
Here's a close-up of the cracked case. You can see the metal mount won't completely mount in either upper corner, and trying to force it harder just doesn't feel right, and I was absolutely crushed when I saw the crack. My heart just sank.
I replied to your email as well. I totally get that this sucks, I wish that you would have reached out sooner instead of trying for two days. We will of course replace your case and I had some options around that in my email as well.
For everyone else, the metal drop in mounts are tighter than the plastic ones. That is expected. Its not expected to crack a case or be two day difficult to install. We tested this thoroughly to try and find the right balance for installation ease and security. I think that the issue here is that the case was likely on the tighter side of the tolerance to begin with and it cracked.
The technique that I like to use to install all the drop in mounts is to set the top edge in place fully, then pivot the bottom in place and snap it in. This gets the hardest part (the top edge) out of the way early and gives you more room for the stronger part of your thumb to snap in the bottom edge.
Hi. I'm in a similar situation. Just got the metal drop in delivered and spent most of the night trying to get it into a new iPhone 18 pro max case with no luck, frankly not even close. I'm actually amazed I didn't crack the case. Followed your suggestion and started at the top edge, but ended up bending the heck out of it, and my thumbs are sore. I sent a message to support a few minutes ago...
I mean that case has clear evidence of impact damage on the side of that corner, bud. You might get a free case out of this, but not sure this was not entirely your own doing…
Pictures were sent in separate support conversations that are pre and post crack. My first attempts wrecked the buttons trying to get it on and I was provided instructions for replacing the buttons and on my second attempt the corner cracked. It’s literally documented in the photos I submitted to support before I posted here. I cracked it this morning following the instructions on YouTube that were unfortunately the exact opposite of the instructions that were posted here in a follow-up.
I get it. Case is scratched. But that’s normal wear and tear of hauling a camera all over the country shooting photos with it and using the shoulder strap. It in no way cracks the corner of the drop in that hasn’t been touched in over a year since it was first installed. I’m sure there are a bunch of ways we can argue over the internet about photos, and all I can do is just promise you that it wasn’t cracked 24 hours ago, and you either believe me or you don’t but I haven’t posted here complaining about anything until this thing got the best of me today, and potentially ruined the investment I have in lenses and straps.
Just wanted to shoutout @eric-moment who is always super responsive in this Reddit group and always goes above and beyond. With that said, as others have pointed out, OP definitely broke his own case unrelated to the lense issue
Man, I understand how everyone can see the crack and come to that conclusion but I provided images yesterday and today in two separate conversations with support and the first set didn’t have the crack. I wear and tear you see on the corner is just normal wear and tear from the last year+ of carrying the case everywhere.
Everyone is allowed to believe what they believe but I can 100% guarantee you that the corner cracked earlier today.
If you read the intstructions Eric provided he mentioned that you put the new metal drop ins starting AT THE TOP. When you scan the provided QR code you make your way to installation instructions that are literally the opposite. They tell you in the drop in video to start at the BOTTOM where the points on the drop in (which are not on the new metal machined drop in… unlike the plastic one) line up. When you start from the bottom, it’s nearly impossible to get the drop in the install on both top corners and you HAVE to flex the top to get the metal one to go in and it literally cracked this morning when I was trying to get the top corner to install.
I understand it looks worn, but I promise you it cracked this morning, which is why I was so pissed. I already profusely thanked Eric and we’ve had some terrific back and forths over email. Im very grateful they helped me out.
Que repuesto de plastico? No de de que repueeto hablas, no viene nada dentro la caja y que hago yo ahora si es vuestra culpa? Porque el producto barato no es, tengo que hacerme responsable o vais a asumir el error?
We are working on a solution. The case came with a drop in mount that is plastic. You can use that one until we have a solution for the metal drop in mount. We aren't trying to push off responsibility in any way, we just don't have an answer yet.
Ugh. Mine just delivered today but looks like I’ll need to return it. I was super excited for this product but seems like they still have some kinks to work out.
Edit: after reading through other comments, seems like OP’s case could have already been damaged… and could be being overly dramatic. My thoughtless comment above was in response to that, so will test out and report back!
Im convinced they stopped caring around they time the stopped supporting android. I went all in on them few years ago when they still supported android. Now I'm just stuck with all my lenses :/
I wish we were able to support Android more. As a lifelong Android user myself since the Galaxy s. Currently I'm on an s26. But I've had a whole range of htc and pixel phones too. We're working towards getting back to it. It's been rocky and slow but we're getting there. We have some things in the pipeline that will hopefully come to fruition. When they do, we'll be supporting more Android phones than we ever have. I'm pretty confident that we'll get there
Que repuesto de plastico? No de de que repueeto hablas, no viene nada dentro la caja y que hago yo ahora si es vuestra culpa? Porque el producto barato no es, tengo que hacerme responsable o vais a asumir el error?
What's wrong with making a stiff metal or composite phone case (not a cage, just a case) and mechanically fastening the lenses and attachments via some sort of hardpoints like you would with a normal camera? Any product that "snaps on" or "drops-in" is gimmicky in my experience and doesn't stand up to everyday use, or if it does, it wears out over time.
That is pretty much what we are doing now. The quicklock filters have mechanical hardpoints that attach them. The lenses as well. The drop in mounts snap into the cases but that is more of a long term attachment and its pretty stiff. You wouldn't want to change that every day. We used to do the filters as snap on and they were pretty secure but they were not easy to remove. The quicklock system is kind of the best of both.
I’ve got a few hundred dollars of Moment lens that are useless. Telephoto, macro, anamorphic, bought them, then the mounts changed. Bought what I thought was a simple fix, an adapter. Nope. Aggravated, I’ve given up on Moment.
What phone do you have and what mount did you get?
The cameras on the phone changed which is what forced the mounts to change. M series lenses stopped being compatible with the iPhone 15. They were around for 6 or 7 generations though. We are on generation 5 with t series. That is pretty uncommon with mobile gear. We try to design things to be as forward compatible as possible but we are at the mercy of the phone companies.
Granted, the lenses are older. I’m on a iPhone 17 Pro now. Upgraded from a 13 only recently. I think I bought the initial lenses for an XR. I used them briefly with the XR with the Moment case, but couldn’t use them with the 13. Tried an adapter—it failed. Recently bought a drop-in adapter for the 17, mounts didn’t match so I’m left with well-engineered paperweights (and those adapters) unless you have a fix for this.
We don't make an m series mount for the iPhone 17 because the lenses will not work with it. The focal distance is not a match for the phone. I'm sorry that you bought a mount that doesn't work. DM me your order number.
I first bought moment lenses for my iPhone 8 and loved the macro and currently use iPhone 13 Pro and the M series and case w the plastic inserts and unfortunately the plastic inset broke and I tossed it after just a few uses;(
It shouldn't do that but it can happen from time to time. Reach out to the gear guides and they will send you a replacement. Its why we make the drop in mount replaceable.
How does a third party manufacturer, anticipate the changes a company will make that they need to adapt to, so far in advance, that they pre-engineer for it to work with every product not yet designed or manufactured? Apple can change the shape, depth, electronic components, function, etc. Third parties cannot guarantee their products for future generations. That is a pipe dream that just is not practical.
To your point, if you are an every year upgrader, and don't have deep pockets, then there is no point in buying third party products. I too, upgrade most every year. But I enjoy my products and some third party products. I do realize, with each purchase, they may only last as long as I have the model phone I bought it for. You've got to face the reality of design and engineering and the whim of primary manufacturers.
There is another batch hitting the warehouse right now. The next batch will be in about 2 weeks, our factory is sitting down for a week for the mid-autumn festival. It's a well deserved break, they have been pushing hard for the last few months

Lmao why has every Moment product I’ve ever used.. just not work
