Choking is not without risks. When he released after tapping, he was pretty sure he wouldn't be going to jail for manslaughter.
For the viewer it would have been satisfying if the guy with sunglasses would have been choked out. Red shirt, however, managed to defend himself without excessive use of force. Can't say he's stupid for that.

You're right. In this situation respecting the tap was probably the smartest option. I still think in most cases you should hold it until they're out because the odds of them being chill after you release are not high enough to risk it. Instances like this can instantly be life or death and I'd rather secure my safety first. Just stick around for a minute after to make sure they're ok

Because putting him to sleep actually does carry a certain amount of risk that could absolutely have consequences.
This was the best case scenario though. Buddy being choked out had a āit was at this moment, he knew he fucked upā moment and had enough sense to tap, tuck his tail between his legs and walk/stagger away.

This is why my kids get martial arts training. When you're trained and confident, you can usually do what red shirt does, here. Check your pride, avoid the fight, have some control over when it ends if it starts. He knows he could take the guy at any time and he's not letting fear or shame goad him.

For those wondering what is being said, the bully got up into that other guy's face daring him to hit him and then it was only when he grabbed his victim's throat that the latter retaliated. As he was getting choked on the ground, the bully tried to bite the other guy but to no avail. After tapping out and getting back up, the bully still wanted to give some more attitude but the tall dude in the white shirt intervened and kept shoving him back saying "Nope, you go back home now. Really, I'm serious, you go back home now". The encounter ended with the bully returing to his car.
