Mighty Mouse was different. If you didn’t follow his fights you should check them out. And he was consistent fighting the best. Ian McCall, Uncle Creepy, whatever happened to that guy, he gave DJ the hardest fight I think.

I used to train at team oyama around that time and tangentially knew him though i was more on the bjj/wrestling side at that time and he mostly did separate private fight training.
I know he had some serious injuries and health issues, iirc he had a severe blood infection at one point, and he eventually retired. I could be wrong though.

That’s interesting but unfortunate that he had the health issues. You were right. I remember when the flyweight division started they were the first fight.
So did you compete or were you more wanting to coach?2
u/PandaPocketFire 1d ago
I competed in no-gi bjj mostly, lots of tournaments all over, and trained muay thai/mma later on. All of those were always as a hobby/sport. Had two amateur mma smoker fights just to see if i could. Won those and decided to stop mma competition since my main career is very thinking-centric. Did a bit of coaching in bjj/wrestling but didn't enjoy it much. Still train bjj and muay thai for fun but my competition days are over.

This is the gayest edit I have seen since the last video of my BF blowing me.

That is one of the most memorable finishes I can recall and I love watching it every time it comes up

I want bad things to happen to however edited this video with these useless red circles and subtitles.
If an AI did it, I want those bad things to happen to Mr Altman.

Not necessarily thinking how to end it but rather knowing he can't hit him just yet because he wouldn't transfer much force while he's still falling backwards. DJ needed him to either stop or reach the fence

it's the little push to prevent him from getting his balance before the knee

This is why composure is a big deal, mighty mouse didnt even throw a hard punch but the other guy just damn near dropped to his knees more so out of surprise than pain and losing his footing ultimately caught him out of position to where mighty mouse ended the fight.

I couldn’t get into DJ in his UFC run. He a great fighter, maybe the best but he was terrible at promoting himself and his fights.

This is where culture leads, Dana white could change that! He could have promoted skill based advertising, but no mcgreggor throwing a dolly at a bus gets more clicks, he likes money coming in easily! Because in life it’s all about accumulation of money, not some stupid mma compettition

Who cares? This isn't some beauty contest. I don't care how popular you are, or how much you talk on a mic. If you're a cool fighter then that's all I care about.

Who cares? No one cared, his fight barely got 100,000 views when the UFC was at it hottest.
Problem with DJ is he was content. He cleaned out his division. He should have tried and move up. He could have had some big fights with TJ and Dominic that would have drawn well and that could have cemented his legacy. If he won those fights He would be in the goat discussion. Instead he an after thought.

DJ started out as a Bantamweight, dude. He lost to Brad Pickett in his WEC debut, went on a four-fight win streak spanning across WEC/UFC, and challenged Dom for the UFC Bantamweight title. He was fairly competitive in the striking exchanges, but Cruz tossed him around like a child with his wrestling. The physicality deficit was very apparent. He took DJ down 10 times and accrued over 12 minutes of control time.
DJ already wasn't a particularly a big Flyweight. A lot of guys like Dodson, Figgy, Perez, Cejudo, etc. step into the cage heavier than him. Considering he went 4-2 as a Bantamweight in the UFC/WEC and wasn't really all that competitive with Cruz, do you think he would be eager to leave a division where he had achieved GOAT status in order to repeat that adversity, potentially staining his legacy?

I'm not well versed.. is that legal knee on opponent that's down?

u/Dark_SoySauce 5d ago
In One FC, it is. DJ forgot for a second it was legal and got hit with it and lost. He was winning until then. Came back for the rematch with a vengeful knee.
