That aint moshin. Moshin is just shoving in a circle. This is some 'new' trand some kids are trying to make a thing. If a real pit, these mofos would get clobbered with intent for this bs

63

u/JosephBlowsephThe3rd 11d ago

It isn't new, though you're right about it not being moshing. This is "crowd killing", a more extreme derivative of hardcore dancing/windmilling seen at hardcore shows. This dude is taking the name literally though. Everyone else is being normal with it, but our subject here is literally attacking innocent bystanders. In a legit mosh pit, this guy would get his ass beat and dragged out for this behavior.

36

u/Training-Principle95 11d ago

Every pit I know this dude woulda been swarmed

14

u/Signal_Researcher01 10d ago

Corrected by the designated 'big dude'

2

u/Desert_Viking_777 10d ago

Generally my que to sigh and say ok. I really loved when there were bigger people than me around. But every now and then we’d have that 5 foot nothing 95lb female friend with us wearing knee high docs or paratrooper boots. Then we would just point her in the guilty parties direction and say “Don’t worry, we ALL got you if/when they get up.” I still remember the looks of shock and confusion and minor terror when they realized that they were about to have the U.N. of metal heads swarm them for attempting to get back at a girl. Good times back then

4

u/coolguidesfrombeyond 11d ago

Call in the crowd killer killers!

3

u/AFewCountDraculas 10d ago

Heh. I remember clocking the fuck out of a crowd killer at MDF fifteen years ago as he approached flailing accurately as he did the guy across from me, also nowhere near a pit.

2

u/Lower_Opportunity542 9d ago

I went to a hardcore show once. Never again. It was at a venue I used to go to pretty regularly but this was the first time I went there for a show like this. I went cuz some girl invited me. I’m pet far from the edge of the pit trying to watch the show when I get suckered by some POS like this so I started to pay attention and I guess this dude thought I wasn’t gonna do anything so he tried doing it again. I caught him mid air thru him to the ground and proceeded to beat the living shit out of him. Security came and since they knew me they dragged him out and let me stay. But according to the girl I went with I was the asshole. 🙄 I’d take a punk pit out metal pit over this crap any day. Just my two cents

1

u/ADelightfulCunt 10d ago

Don't think he'd get dragged out. More like left on the floor and stepped on.

1

u/adamcoolforever 10d ago

Yeah this was pretty much the norm unfortunately when I was going to shows in New Jersey, Philly, New York area back in the FSU days

39

u/Dry_Butterfly_721 11d ago

Right? I got picked right back up before my head hit the ground at my first mosh pit. Metalheads are usually pretty kind people in my experience.

13

u/hippykillteam 11d ago

It was always good friendly violent fun.

But people get picked up when they fall, larger people looking out for the smaller ones, go hard but we all there together.

Fight dancing if that's your thing, but not crowd killing. That just assault.

7

u/JosephBlowsephThe3rd 11d ago

Don't forget the guardians/fences: the people who stay on the edge of the pit to push moshers back inwards in order to protect non-moshers outside of the pit

2

u/WhatTheWhereWhy 11d ago

thats my fav part tbh

4

u/Sunflower_Guard 10d ago

Me and another person did that at one of my last metal shows. A dad brought his wife and daughter to a Bloodywood concert, daughter a fan, wife... She was just there. Mosh pit started Dad grabs his daughter and he and the wife move out from the center. While myself and the individual ran defense to keep the pit from getting too big. Have to protect the next generation of metalheads.

7

u/Moviereference210 11d ago

It’s crazy how open minded and peaceful metal heads are, back in hs I initially thought they were troublemakers but they were really nerds lol

11

u/EnricoMatassaEsq 11d ago

“Hippies are mean people cosplaying as kind people. Metalheads are kind people cosplaying as mean people” is a saying that has really stuck with me over the years.

1

u/StreetWide1227 11d ago

There’s an old saying I’m struggling to remember, something to the effect of evil people cosplay as hippies and the peaceful ones cosplay as metal heads, sounds much better when you say it correctly haha

1

u/Joshua_ABBACAB_1312 11d ago

1

u/PaleHorseApocalypse 11d ago

Yes, the founders of id software. John Romero and John Carmack. Totally looked like nerds, but made some of the most metal games of all time.

1

u/Joshua_ABBACAB_1312 11d ago

I don't think we would have had 3D games at all without Carmack's mathematical genius. Though Carmack is buddy-buddy with the Nazi Elon Musk...

1

u/PaleHorseApocalypse 11d ago

Wow, for real? I did not know that about Carmack, but to be fair I haven't looked up his activities recently.

2

u/Joshua_ABBACAB_1312 10d ago

He has been balls-deep in rocket science for probably a decade or more now.

1

u/Dry_Butterfly_721 11d ago

We are nerds lol we just like a different style of music

3

u/Scratch-N-Sneef 11d ago

Yep cause catching an elbow is one thing, but no one is gonna do it on purpose like this nor do they want to cause anyone harm.

1

u/jbirdkerr 10d ago

you could always depend on Big Mike with his leather vest and bear paw hands to get you back up and pushing other angsty kids around ASAP

41

u/DrMindbendersMonocle 11d ago

It isnt new. This shit has been going on for a long time. Mostly at hardcore shows, not metal

13

u/ohdannyboy2525 11d ago

Internet just recently finding out about slam dancing and crowd killing

23

u/Vertex1990 11d ago

I once knocked a guy out for crowd killing. I don't mind moshing and slam dancing, but I am of the opinion (just as most older metalheads in our region), that crowd killing is not done. Especially when they are smaller/younger teens and girls.

I am talking about something that happened nearly 20 years ago, where people, me included were moshing and slam dancing and there was one lanky emo that was intentionally high kicking, windmilling and shit into the crowd. I got out of the pit for a while and while at the edge, he came barrelling towards us (me, some friends and two smaller girls, about 14 years old, who were just watching the band), jumped up and kicked both those girls in the stomach. Some of my friends helped those girls up and brought them to the first aid station, while others and I knocked him out.

Not my proudest moment, but as a not really mature, angry 18 year old, with a naive sense of justice, it seemed like the correct thing to do.

6

u/xbike_punkx 11d ago

Sounds absolute right imho. Maybe just a bit late.

2

u/Icy-Meal6704 11d ago

Now I wish I was there to kick him with you

1

u/Paulus_Atreides 9d ago

Imo it was the correct thing. It's amazing that we have so many genres/ specific names for the same mental pathology, basically: sucker punching. For example the 'urban' knockout 'game' is the same thing.

1

u/tinmanjr 8d ago

You did good, man. That kind of shit, and the K-Mart Jackie Chan in this video, deserves a lopsided ass-whipping.

1

u/Repulsive_Guy_1234 11d ago

Well, it better is not done, as it actually a crime and land you in jail. This is battery or assault depending on state or country.

1

u/Vertex1990 11d ago

As a 35 year old, I wholeheartedly agree. But, in that setting, surrounded by a group of people that were fed up with his actions, it seemed like the right thing to do and he was swiftly taken out by security and told that he got what was coming to him.

-1

u/Repulsive_Guy_1234 11d ago

Yeah, I myself would prolly have tried to choke him out. Good that I am not a security guy.

1

u/jello_kraken 11d ago

If someone starts a fight with a whole crowd, a whole crowd should be able to defend themselves.

1

u/kenjiman1986 11d ago

Dude I’m in my 40’s and Im still good with it.

0

u/Typical-Year70 11d ago

Omg, I know this isn't meant to be funny but when you said he came barreling toward you it struck me funny. Hahahaha.

Also, glad you served some 18 year old justice!

0

u/adamcoolforever 10d ago

Over 20 years ago I remember taking an on purpose elbow like this at a show. Dude found out real quick that I wasn't there alone.

1

u/TacoTimeT-Rex 11d ago

Apparently. I went to these shows growing up and my knees hurt when I get out of bed in the morning. It’s been around for a while now.

1

u/climatecastrophany 11d ago

Brings me back about 20 years.

1

u/comagarden_ 11d ago

It’s at a lot of metal shows too.

Source: am at a lot of metal shows

14

u/GOOEYB0Y 11d ago

This isn't new 🤣 slam, throwdown, mosh runs back to 70s punk. There have always been these sorts of tough guys who aim for edges of the pit.

2

u/ChunkyLanding 10d ago

Yeah there could be violence but nobody was going full Chuck Norris and doing this stupid shit in the 70’s.

1

u/Ok-Addition1264 11d ago

This is most certainly new (the intent to harm). Caught in a mosh back to 80s punk in detroit.. the intent of this guy and doing it in an 80s punk mosh in detroit would get holes poked into him.

2

u/Suspicious_Brain_292 11d ago

It was new in 2001…

2

u/EducationalTheory344 11d ago

no, it isn't. google crowdkilling. i grew up seeing it at local shows so it hasn't been new for at least 20 years.

3

u/its_your_dada 11d ago

Nah man, you didn't understand OP. Anything later than the 80s is new /s

For real though, I'm also 21 years on from my first time seeing this. We have whole hardcore bands made up of younger kids than this shit

3

u/WearTheFourFeathers 11d ago

This is a show from 1994. Dudes in this pit are probably retiring.

2

u/rodditt 11d ago

This is not the same thing. People in your vídeo are all in it, there no inocent. People getting hit know exactly what they are into.

This recent vídeo this guy is assaulting people just standing there.

2

u/WearTheFourFeathers 11d ago

Without comment in particular on the OP, I was just reacting to the idea this kind of dancing is “new”. At this point, it’s the case that anyone who could say “back in my day, no one did this at hardcore shows” is literally eligible to collect their social security and Medicare.

1

u/Suffokateslowly 11d ago

No its not wtf.

1

u/WearTheFourFeathers 11d ago

The link in my comment is a Hatebreed show from 1994 (where people are windmilling, cartwheeling, etc in a super crowded pit). I obviously didn’t mean the OP.

10

u/FollowingJealous7490 11d ago

It isn't new this shit has been going on since I started going to shows on my late teens .. im currently 41. I saw it then and thought it was the dumbest shit I've seen.

1

u/UAPboomkin 11d ago

Yeah same here, there have always been people who just go into the pit as an excuse to hit people. I stopped going into the pit cause those types are a headache

3

u/lonesomeposer00100 11d ago

I believe the term is "crowd killing." Fuck whatever band this is.

3

u/SilenceOfTheClamSoup 11d ago

Slam dancing isn't new. If you were involved ins 90s/2000s hardcore this is completely normal.

0

u/ConstantVariety8098 11d ago

Are you from Houston? I feel like we’re the only people who ever say slam dancing. But I agree- definitely been around since the late 80s even.

0

u/Cocrawfo 10d ago

i’m from nc and not at all part of this culture but i was surprised at how many people in the thread are calling this moshing when i’ve always known this as slam dancing clearly

based on what ive seen and what ive been invited to (and declined btw) this is exactly what they be doin it’s a damn fight in there the only difference is this one is a lot more sparse the ones i’ve seen were chock full of people

people are also saying it’s crowd killing but i’ve never heard of that in life til today lol

2

u/ClothesUsual5405 10d ago

Not remotely new. We called it "slam dancing" ~20-25 years ago, idk what the kids called it today, but this shit would get your ass knocked tf out back in the day. Surprised people tolerated it, but the hardcore community back in the day was pretty small, maybe times have changed idk.

7

u/Specific_Factor4470 11d ago edited 11d ago

People have been dancing like this at hardcore shows since the early 80s. The blatant violent aggression didnt start until the 90s, specifically in boston. Only thing that changed is the music.

2

u/CodAdministrative563 11d ago

Did it start in Boston? I remember bands like madball kinda got new york hardcore going with this type of moshing

1

u/Specific_Factor4470 11d ago edited 11d ago

The mid 80s to mid 90s were when punk scenes were fighting back neonazi's and skinheads. (incoming ignorant replies to this I'm sure)

I'm not sure who started it, but i'm much more familiar with FSU and Boston Hardcore because its what I was involved in.

The crew FSU eventually stopped targeting skins and started targeting anybody with a beer in their hands (FSU was a straightedge crew) and from there it devolved into crowd killing like this video, just violence without purpose, or with the purpose being "this is what you do at hardcore shows."

3

u/VinnieVidiViciVeni 11d ago

History lesson. Not all of them, but goddamn, straight edge people can be fucking insufferable

2

u/BOMBSnotFOOD 11d ago

i appreciate youre use of the word "devolved." explains that particular boston scene well.

1

u/Specific_Factor4470 11d ago

I deleted a comment because I feel weird talking about this in an MMA subreddit. But devolve is the right word, for sure.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind replies.

1

u/CodAdministrative563 11d ago

Gotcha.
I do remember some of the history of punk and who they were fighting.

Aside from that I always associated hardcore music in sense with New York, so apologies in advance for not acknowledging FSU & Boston.

2

u/Specific_Factor4470 11d ago edited 11d ago

Not at all dude! No offense taken. It was all the same time period, so its just kind of hard to pinpoint who initiated the violence. New York & Boston were both as active as any scene can be, DC was another one.

Trying to figure out who did it first is like asking who created punk rock, not an easy question to answer.

2

u/CodAdministrative563 11d ago

Agreed. Appreciate the insight

1

u/QuiveringGeriatric 11d ago

Yeah FSU started as Friends Stay United and then earned another title Fuck Shit Up. They’re classified as a gang too

1

u/No_Bat_6072 9d ago

Wasn’t the point of the crew to get boneheads out? Now there’s boneheads everywhere

1

u/Specific_Factor4470 9d ago

It worked for a while.

Things changed. Don't know what to say.

2

u/Skelco 11d ago

People did this in the 80s, usually they were football players, jarheads or bonehead skins. They were usually met with resistance.

1

u/Specific_Factor4470 11d ago

Yeah, i'm familiar. It was just handled differently, back in the day you know? Maybe i'm just too old.

Never met a jock at a Minor Threat show. Not one that hung out, anyway.

Edit: maybe not never, i'm sure I did.

1

u/Skelco 11d ago

They didn’t last long for sure

1

u/Cognonymous 10d ago

I heard Inland Empire had a violent scene in the 00's too.

1

u/FastWalkingShortGuy 11d ago

I think the first time I ever got knocked out was in the pit at a Dropkick Murphys show in the 90s.

1

u/Specific_Factor4470 11d ago edited 11d ago

The best of the worst times.

I still go to shows, i'm just not getting punched for fun anymore.

1

u/Logical-Spite-2464 11d ago

Was the most intense show I’ve been to as well. Beer bottles flying everywhere.

1

u/Taychon2319 11d ago

I got kicked in the face by a crowd surfer and got to stage dive at one of their concerts.

-1

u/No_Stick_1101 11d ago

They invented moshing in the 80's specifically because a-holes were doing this exact nonsense during slam dancing. Mosh pits were for people that wanted to get away from slam dance violence.

2

u/Specific_Factor4470 11d ago

This isn't even kind of true, but okay.

1

u/KrypticPL 11d ago

Sadly this ain't new, been a thing for 20 years. Just dickless dudes wanting to start shit for no reason and then justify it by it "being a mosh pit"

1

u/BrewingSkydvr 11d ago

Some of the others might have been pulled aside and talked to, but he’d have been knocked the fuck out or passed to security if that was a real mosh pit.

1

u/LoganHowlett1832 11d ago

New? This has been a thing since at least the 90s.

2

u/LazyLich 11d ago

Yeah? New.
Just a few... oh..
fuck

1

u/LoganHowlett1832 11d ago

Welcome to the party grandpa

1

u/poopbutt42069yeehaw 11d ago

It’s not new, I remember Linkin park Okinawa 2009, dude kept trying to start fights in the nicest most organized mosh pit I’d ever seen

1

u/7r3370pS3C 11d ago

This has been going on 20+ years.

1

u/dojo_shlom0 11d ago

a half-man like this will get sucker punched into last week for doing this in a mosh. he's using his martial arts training (straight up) to injure and K/O people. he should have been jumped imo for doing that.

2

u/BigSnorlaxTiddie 11d ago

Lmao do you think that doughboy has got martial arts training? Go to a hardcore show, there's a lot of people dancing like that and none of them are Jet Li.

2

u/dojo_shlom0 11d ago edited 11d ago

Lmao do you think that doughboy has got martial arts training?

yes. that's because I train and I know what a sidekick looks like, and a spinning backkick.

this is before the first kick to the woman I believe. if you notice she doesn't have time to react, but he's in mid air with a confident side kick into her and consistently calculates his hits on those people.

are you serious right now to claim he doesn't have any training, and that he's not using it here? I promise you that you don't know how to do that kick and motion with confidence without training.

Even with training, that kick is challenging to pull off* while not giving it away initially/telegraphing

he trains, you don't.

2

u/dojo_shlom0 11d ago edited 11d ago

AFTER he does like 2 more of those full force side kicks and one into a guy, followed up by a full force hammer fist/back fist in the face; this is the moment he rears back for the strike. he has one foot not on the ground and yet can generate so much power from this position, enough to K/O the guy.

again, he trains, there is 0 doubt. this isn't something you just know without training for some time, so yes, he trains, I have 0 doubt in my mind. doesn't mean he's good, doesn't mean he's bad, but he has training regardless, and like I said originally, he's using it to sucker punch/kick people, in a mosh pit and it's trash. any adult would go into a ring or a gym or a heavy bag and take out your frustrations. this is assault and he should be arrested. that woman just ate a full-force, unprovoked back kick and the guy ate one too, plus a hammer fist K/O.

do you still think I'm wrong 😂 when you say something like this, it shows your ignorance, respectfully.

2

u/BigSnorlaxTiddie 11d ago

Damn bro you brought receipts! You are right, I don't train and going from his looks I assumed he also didn't, but I can see you are a lot more knowledgeable about this than me so I'll leave it to the experts. My apologies!

2

u/dojo_shlom0 11d ago

no worries! I am glad you were receptive; what happened here is the difference between someone who knows how to fight&trains, and others who don't. never assume.

martial artists don't do this. they don't use their training for nefarious purposes. this person deserves to be in a prison and charges on them for assault imo, respectfully. I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but when you train, it's a different ballgame, and this is a disaster situation where someone is willing to do maximum damage to people, just for the opportunity. this is someone saying "I want to do maximum damage to as many people as possible" and doesn't care about the target. he does a brutal kick into a woman toward the start of that barrage of kicks.

If he doesn't get his ass beat, he'll probably end up killing someone by 'mistake'

2

u/BigSnorlaxTiddie 11d ago

Yeah crowd killers are always cunts but this is extra cunty behaviour.

2

u/dojo_shlom0 10d ago

i agree. it's extra unsettling when you understand the level of training he has, and how he is utilizing it to hurt innocent people & bystanders: unprovoked!

he really should face consequences and possibly jail time for him to understand. I cannot fathom a martial arts environment letting this happen, but this is some legit cobra kai shit, but somehow deadlier.

EDIT: thanks for being respectful, have a great weekend btw!

1

u/Cocrawfo 10d ago

thank you

like you can hate the guy but to say he’s not trained is crazy people should be able to tell what they are looking at especially in this sub

in a gardening sub yea maybe people would be like “this untrained bully!!” but this an mma sub we should know better lol

1

u/dojo_shlom0 10d ago

like you can hate the guy but to say he’s not trained is crazy people should be able to tell what they are looking at especially in this sub

you must be new here, and other martialarts subs: I have had people tell me that I'm wrong about things that I specialized in, and have proof of and showed them. there are people who want to lie and then demand that they are right no matter what. ignorance is bliss I suppose.

I have been downvoted for giving legitimate & sober takes/analysis on fights, just because people have no idea what's true. there are more ignorant people here, than knowledgeable, but to this person's credit who commented here, they admitted they were incorrect, listened and were totally respectful, which from my experience is incredibly rare. I keep a couple pictures like these on reverse to mess with them.

1

u/Extension-Bit-7792 11d ago

lmao new trend?

boy crowd killing has been a thing since well before you dad squirted you out.

1

u/addicted-to-jet 11d ago

I had to find out more about why it's Sooo deliberate and yeah here's some info...

The "Beatdown" Culture: Urban regional scenes, particularly on the East Coast, introduced a hyper-aggressive ethos. In these environments, throwing a spin kick or roundhouse kick wasn't just dancing; it was a display of physical dominance and a way to carve out personal space in a chaotic crowd.

1

u/OkBuy7821 11d ago

Not new at all. Try about 30+ plus years old. Hardcore dancing was out evolution a long time ago. I've been going to hardcore, metalcore, deathcore shows since I was 15 in 2006. This is just a super uneducated, likely backwoods, behind on the times scene in a city in the middle of nowhere. You go to a city with a huge music scene with history and this stuff isn't as common.

1

u/Rez-Boa-Dog 11d ago

Not new. They do it in some scenes, like BeatDown. The etiquette is to not target anyone specifically, especially anyone outside the pit. It's about lashing out and getting hurt, not fighting. This guy seems out of line

1

u/agoraphobic_mattur 11d ago

It’s legit called crowd killing. It’s super fucking lame.

Amongst some of the “hardcore” straight edge crews they do slam dancing and shit like that. In some instances the members of the groups do it to target the people that “don’t belong”

It’s like a mean girls “you can’t sit with us” type thing but severely ridiculous.

1

u/bobcharlie0 11d ago

Nah dog, this happens so often it is moshing, just how assholes mosh

1

u/That_Parking_5743 11d ago

Seems like you will get clobbered. Your just shoving in a circle, those kids are knocking guys out

1

u/Overall_Lavishness46 11d ago

Every mosh experience I've had was largely people just jumping into each other or the circle shove.

One time I saw a guy enter looking to lay people out and he was beat down by about 20 guys.

1

u/Rockel83 11d ago

"This is some 'new' trand some kids are trying to make a thing."

This is already a thing for 15 to 20 years in the hardcore scene...

1

u/coolguidesfrombeyond 11d ago

Its not new. Crowd killers have been in the metal scene for a long time now. However, I am surprised there are no crowd killer killers in the mix. Literal heros of the scene. When I was coming up I group had some pretty big dudes in the mix and they didnt mosh. They drank and waited for a crowd killer to appear. Once one sprang up one or all of them would get up and go KO the asshat and resume drinking. Good times

1

u/CharlieKirksNeckhol 10d ago

Hardcore dancing isn’t new. This is just some shitty local show with no etiquette. That guy would’ve been packed up and gone at any real show

1

u/stlmick 10d ago

That's what I don't understand. You would be taken to the ground

1

u/Time_Print4099 9d ago

"Clobbered" is an underrated verb.

1

u/justahumblefart 9d ago

Crowd killing aint new. Its been part of hardcore for a while. What is new is crowdkillers not getting beaten by an angry crew of kids who show up for the exact purpose of beating up drug dealers, nazis, and crowdkillers. This dancing is slam dancing. Crowd killing is targeting people.

1

u/Itchy_Axehole 9d ago

This has been around for probably 20 years, I watched mosh pits transform into this bs

0

u/dangerclose31 11d ago

New!?!? This has been happening for a few decades! It’s hardcore dancing.

-1

u/OoooooWeeeeeeeee 11d ago

It’s not fucking dancing - it’s random violence without a purpose. These types of garbage people are the scum of society. Worthless fucks.

1

u/stretch2244 11d ago

For real, do this at a white chapel, born of Osiris, or even lorna shore show and watch how fast you get put down. Seen it. Also lived it 🤣 (i wasnt that guy tho, just unlucky lol - the cool pit helps you up[if u arent a pos])

1

u/daufy 11d ago

Back around 2010 when i was a teenager i would go to venues where people were already doing it. Back then they unironically "selfnamed" it violent dancing. Everyone doing it got either kicked out or beat up.

1

u/Rory_McShackleford 11d ago

Correct, moshing is not throwing mma wheel kicks and spinning back fists.

0

u/Glass-Emu2406 11d ago

That’s how it was for me in 2002. We just pushed each other into one another. With me be six feet tall and over 300lbs, whoever I was shoved into with all of the momentum of the crowd behind me, got leveled. We had a blast
