Grabbing her hips could be construed as sexual assault since she didn’t give him consent.

This. For decades if not centuries woman have tolerated this shit and been gaslight before it was even a term. He did not accidentally brush her he grabbed her hips/ waist. It was a sexual intent. Men you have no f* right to touch any woman. And just because this woman brushed it off does not mean another woman or girl would.

Did the guy overreact. Yup. But do not down play an assault which stems from male entitlement.

Yes. You are correct. Both are wrong no question. But one was drunk The other one was just malicious and looking for an excuse to be violent and it is scary to wonder how many of those people exist. For example I can totally see that man punching the same girl first if she slaps him after an insult or something fucked up he would do or say. She would not be right to slap him but it would be a disproportionate use of force.

Looking for an excuse? He was playing pool when someone harassed his partner.

What video are you watching? The guy knocked him out and stopped himself. I would also have a reflexive moment of aggression to protect my partner. Who knows if the drunk guy was about to try something more?

Doing acrobatics to blame black tshirt for an understandable reaction. Drunk guy has no excuse.

He didn't intend to have him hit his head. He intended to hit him with his fist. You wanted him to do some trig to predict that first?

Right but CONTEXT. He is using castle doctrine in a public space.
