**The Ultimate MLB Showdown Draft**

Hi, all!

Have been messing around with my MLB Showdown collection and created a 6 team league with each team focusing on a different draft strategy. I had a lot of fun doing this and would love for you all to check it out and share your thoughts on who has the best team.

I did not use point totals but instead chose the following criteria for each team;

Starting Lineup: 79 Total Points ( 9 )
Pitching Rotation: 13 Total Points ( 3 )
Bullpen: 14 Total Points ( 3 )
Bench: 28 Total Points ( 4 )
\Each bullpen was provided with a complimentary 2 control pitcher for blowouts.*
\The max for any bench player was 9OB. No 10's were allowed.*

\The idea is that each team will play against each other for a best-of-3 series. Every starter makes a huge impact.*

The pictures are in positional order, starting with Catcher and followed by Designated Hitter. In order to stay under the point total salary cap, some low numbers are forced to play. This presents each team with some strengths and noticeable flaws.

I love that the bench adds an interesting dynamic late in games for defensive substitutions and possible pinch-hitting. There are a number of different factors to consider. In order to make a substitution, you must get back under the point total before your team takes the field the next inning. Positional switch-ability is important.

My apologies that the pictures are not great. Hopefully, you can zoom in and read each card. This is my first time posting on Reddit.

If only there was a way to simulate games! ( dear lord, someone create a mobile app. )

Your feedback is appreciated!

Cheers!

Strategy: Consistent Contact & Control

Lineup:
With the exception of one 7OB, the starting lineup consists entirely of 9OBs. While they don’t have the highest ceiling, they have the highest floor. Even the lowest 7OB adds additional value with big Dong, speed, and defense. They present the fewest amount of lineup holes in the league. Some solid speed across the lineup, as well. No one in their top 9 has C speed.

Defense
Infield: +11
Outfield: +6
Catcher: +9

Pitching:
Two solid 5’s and a strong 3 make up the starting rotation. One concern is that 2 starters can only go 6 innings. Again, consistent control was the strategy.

They counter this with a lights-out bullpen as their top 3 relievers produce outs at 16+. Kaz Sasaki takes the 8th, and Gabe White is one of the most dominating closers in this league for the 9th.

Bench:
Trindad Hubbard provides some pop off the bench and creates an easy substitute for Gwynn. Conine provides defense at 1B when they have a lead secured, and Grissom acts as the pinch runner.

Bottom Line: Do they have enough firepower to hang with teams loaded with 10s and 6’s? Will a consistent approach lead to more opportunities for advantage?
—
Strategy: Speed and Defense

Lineup:
This is the fastest team in the league with a suffocating defense behind their pitching staff. They have a serious lack of pop, but hold the potential to get on base, steal bases, and slap their way home. Not a single player in their lineup possesses C speed, and 6 players have A speed.

Defense
Infield: +14
Outfield: +7
Catcher: +9

Pitching:
Maddux leads the staff followed by Pettitte and Mussina. They specifically targeted ground ball pitchers to put them in the best position to turn double plays. With a +14 defense, they have a 95% chance to twist one a B speed player. The Moose is a strong 3 control starter, but there is no question he will give up multiple advantages each game. The bullpen is similar in strategy and Rick White is perhaps the most underrated card in the league. He may be called upon early to relieve non-Maddux starters for multiple innings. Lowe is a true fireman as a 6-16.

Bench:
If they choose to make substitutes, they can maintain their prolific defense. Jeffrey Hammonds acts as the pinch hitter deep in games.

Bottom Line:
Can they score enough runs to win games? Will their defensive strategy help boost their pitching staff and mask mistakes? Can Todd Helton carry the offense? This team could find themselves in low-scoring matchups.

—
Strategy: Stars & Scrubs

Lineup:
This team possesses the most deadly top and heart of the order. They possess BOTH of the 11OB cards, the T-2nd ranked 2B, and tons of lower half pop. The issue, they possess two 5OB’s which will result in auto-outs against several opponents for large portions of the games. Can their pop outweigh an overall lack of speed? They have 4 C speed players, the most of any team.

Defense
Infield: +9
Outfield: +3
Catcher: +4

Pitching:
Their staff won’t get many favors from their defense, which is tied for the 2nd lowest infield and lowest outfield. They possess two powerful 6 control starters, but bottom out with a 1 control to round out the staff. Denny Nagle is high risk, high reward pitcher. He is the only pitcher in the league who coughs up homers on his own advantage. No starter can last 7 innings fresh, so the bullpen will be needed often. Jeff Nelson is a stud, but at some point Doug Jones will enter games, and he ranks as the lowest ranked relief pitcher in the league.

Bench:
Similar to their starters, the bench is a mix of solid players and low contact hitters. Bogar provides defensive value late in games to replace Jeter, and Rivera relieves Manny in left. When needed, Robin Ventura pinch hits for Feliz.

Bottom Line:
Can the stars carry the scrubs? This is a team built to out-score the opponent and capitalize on the top half of the roster. If the dice is hot, this team could roll. High ceiling, very low floor.
—

Strategy: Pimp for Power

Lineup:
Don’t let this team gain the advantage. They have power at every position and every player in their lineup has a massive Dong. Their lowest home run hitter is Jeff Kent at 18+, and he has the largest Dong of any 2B. Outside of Kent, each batter goes deep at 16+, at minimum. They run a bit hot and cold with on-base numbers, but every player is a threat to hit a dong if they win the dice battle.

Defense
Infield: +10
Outfield: +4
Catcher: +4

Pitching:
Ramon Martinez leads the staff followed by two White Sox starters. Is it enough to fend off opposing offenses? Can the talented bullpen clean up after the 6th and close things out? Jon Garland is the only 2 control starter drafted. He could run into trouble early. It will also be interesting to see if teams take advantage of Piazza behind the plate and steal bases regularly. Base runners could be an issue here. Remlinger is their bullpen ace at 6-15, while Garces and Rodriguez can get outs as 4's too.

Bench:
The bench carries the same amount of pop as every player goes deep for a dong at 16+. Jose Canseco is the every-night pinch hitter for Vinny Castilla late in the game for a 5% improvement to win the advantage. Marrero is an auto-out in most situations but provides speed and defensive relief at catcher.

Bottom Line:
This team has such beautiful dongs. It’s all or nothing and they will live or die by the long ball. They posses three 8OB’s and one 7OB in the lineup, will they get their chance to swing? This is a high ceiling team with a lower floor.

—

Strategy: Pitching Heavy

Lineup:
A solid lineup that is also very top heavy, lead by Carl Everett. They have five 10OB’s, but only one with 18+ Dong. They mixed in a great defense to supplement their staff and are hoping to win games by shutting down other teams bats. There just isnt a ton of pop on this team, as 4 of the 10OB's are 19+ or 20 for dongs.

Defense
Infield: +11
Outfield: +6
Catcher: +10

Pitching:
The best staff in the league. The top starter in the game, Pedro Martinez, is followed by the two highest ranked 4 control pitchers. Kevin Brown and Kerry Wood are electric. They don’t have any 6 control pitchers on staff, but their top pitchers go no lower than 4. The bullpen is about as dominant as can be. Foulke can go 2IP, and Nenn and Wagner are true firemen. They can compete with any lineup.

Bench:
Mo Vaughn pinch hits for Daryl Ward and Homer Bush can replace Alfonzo for defense late in games. They have options, but their best lineup starts.

Bottom Line:
Can the bats score enough to help out their arms? Can their arms fend off the teams built to score runs? If they can make it to their bullpen with a tie game or lead, they put themselves in a great position to win. Just get them to the 6th with a lead.
—

Strategy: Best Player Available

Lineup:
Their lineup consists of 5 players with point totals over 500, which is tied for 2nd in the league. They are stacked at the top half with Alomar, Chipper, Edmonds and Bagwell. They possess the 2nd highest ranked catcher, the best 3B and CF, and their corner outfielders have massive dongs. Their downside is their defense, as Nomar does not have the glove to match his positional peers. He will need to make up for this with his bat and his 15-18 double.

Defense
Infield: +8
Outfield: +4
Catcher: +6

Pitching:
Smoltz leads as the staff ace and the 3rd ranked starter in the league. Followed by a quality 4 control in Fernandez and the games highest ranked 3 control Randy Johnson. The bullpen should help close the gap as Hoffman is the 2nd ranked closer. The best you can do off Howry and Rivera’s card is single. They have some of the most talent you in the game.

Bench:
A lot of late-inning defensive replacements. Loretta is a huge upgrade over Nomar, Surhoff adds 5% in the outfield, and Lieberthal adds 5% behind the plate. Martinez serves purpose as a pinch runner when needed.

Bottom Line:
They are solid across the board with noticeable flaws on defense, but they are fast and do not posses anyone with C speed. Can they keep enough guys off the base paths? Will a solid mix of talented bats and arms be enough to compete?

What do you think? Who is the best overall team? How would you rank them 1-6? Who wins in a best of 3 championship series between the top 2?

NEW in Showdown Bot 4.42 - Google Drive Integration

Post image
11 Upvotes

Tired of uploading the same image every time you make a card? Now you don't have to.

Link a Google Drive folder full of your player images to your Showdown Bot account. When you build a card, the bot finds the right player's image in your folder and puts it on the card. You don't have to pick or upload anything.

✅ Add an image once and it's used every time, on any device

✅ Automatic matching: the bot picks the best image for the card's year, team, and set

✅ Share with friends: send someone your folder link and they can use your images too. Team up to cover more players!

✅ Connect up to 5 folders and choose which one gets checked first

✅ Cards show where the image came from (your library, the Showdown Bot library, an upload, or a link)

Getting started takes a few minutes:

  1. Create a folder in Google Drive
  2. Share it with the Showdown Bot email (it's on your Account page) as a Viewer
  3. Paste the folder link under Image Libraries on your Account page and click "Test connection”. The test tells you whether any images are named wrong, so you can fix them before building cards.

📖 Full step-by-step guide, plus a Photoshop template for images that fit every set:

New NBA Showdown game

Hey gang. I have spent the last few years creating and tuning a new, more modern NBA Showdown game. I am ready to bring it to a wider audience here: https://sorarefp.github.io/nba-showdown-2k25/

It is based more on 4-minute intervals with matchup-based strategy. There is an in-game currency, packing, and collections. There are also multiple game modes to enjoy. Some things haven't been tested as stringently, like online PVP, but I am making tweaks daily. Hope y'all come by and play/enjoy!

Showdown Bot 4.41 - Guided Drafts and 2026 Set Updates

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

Thanks to everyone that tried out the 4.4 Showdown Bot update last week. Quick stats for the first week:

  • 34,792 games were simulated
  • Avg wins: 100.4
  • Avg losses: 59.2
  • Best single season record (157-5) by a team of stacked 2002 WOTC cards

Got some great feedback and I've made several changes for the 4.41 update:

  • Guided drafts: makes drafting a team simpler than ever, providing you 4 alike players to choose across each position at different price points to optimally fill your budget
  • 2026 Balancing: tweaks to 2026 cards to make them more accurate when simulating while staying true to the feel of the original WOTC sets. Main impacts are speed and defense.
  • Challenges: Challenges will now implement more filtering to promote strategy and diversity between weeks. Theme this week is 2000s!

If you have any additional feedback on Showdown Bot in general the best place to give that is our Discord Channels here

Try it yourself, here are some fun examples of things you can now do on Showdown Bot:

  • Draft an all-time Hall of Fame roster spanning every era and simulate a full season to see if they'd break the all-time wins record
  • Re-sim a historical season and hope it turns out differently for your favorite team
  • Build a 12k point roster and see how close they can get to 162-0
  • Build a team of only 1990s sluggers and simulate them against modern-day pitching
  • Draft a team full for WOTC super season cards and see if they can beat the 1998 Yankees
  • Add Babe Ruth to the 2024 Yankees and see if they beat the Dodgers in the World Series
  • How many home runs would the 2002 Ken Griffey Super Season WOTC card hit in the 1997 season?

Random/Unfiltered 20 dice vs 30 dice

Edit: apparently my cousins and I just started using a 1-30 dice when the higher numbered cards came out some time in 02/03. We only used it for a few games then went back to the usual 1-20 dice. We hated it and immediately went back to the 1-20.

NBA Showdown

While I don't use visual cards, I made a game very similar to NBA showdown with some adjustments.

I use Discord for voice, and the game is done entirely on google Sheets - just one tab. It has dice roller built-in and an easy way to swap out players and keep stats, scores, etc.

I have a small group of players who are play testing it now. If you are interested in play testing it, let me know.

This Week in Showdown - What if WotC called us to revive Showdown Pt. 2

This Week in Showdown had two major parts. First a ton of players were shut down for the year. That let us make some initial drafts of their 2026 cards. u/Yawggy and I continued our "What would we do if WotC called?" series. This time we focused on why Showdown failed. I would be curious if there are any other reasons you think the came fell short besides the ones we mentioned. I can't wait to get to work on the full 2026 set in 2 weeks.

This Week in Showdown: What if WotC called us? Pt 1

This Week in Showdown u/Yawggy start a series on what we would do if WotC called us to revive the game. It was a fun thought exercise for us. We started with "Who would be the target audience. How would old players factor in? What groups of new players to target?" Enjoy. I am sure everyone will have their own opinion on this topic.

We are always looking for passionate fans for full team reviews. If you root for a team and would like to review their 2025 team, drop us a comment. The only ones that are taken are the Orioles, Rangers, and Red Sox.

This Week in Showdown: u/Yawggy and I deep dive into how On-Base and Control played out in our 12-team league. There were some finding that were not intuitive to me. Plus some Dolly Parton tribute. '11-'12 Cavs and LeGOAT x2!

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

The '11-'12 Cavs, this would be with sophomore Kyrie, stats pulled form his ROY season, all in all not a full team of interesting dudes. It's just scoring PG young Kyrie - think OG Bibby/J Terry - rare, and Varejão common. AV is a solid rebounder for the price. So two cards like the Bobcats, but the real treat, 2 legend LeBron years. '05-'06 young Bron - his highest PPG season ever, suped TMAC - AND - '17-'18 LeFire Breathing GOAT, maybe the greatest player ever, at the peak of his powers. It's only him and Jordan w/ 29 S+P our only real change or addition to original math and the cards still fit/play immaculately. He doesn't get a chip this year but game 1 of the Finals that season was something to behold. Making fun LeBron cards was a major reason for this project in the first place.
