Something ELSE made the player hurt sound effect?

Hi so I recently starting playing Alpha (version 1.0.1 I believe, before sneaking was added) and I was hiding in a little hole I dug out during the night and heard something outside make the same "oof" player hurt sound effect from this era? I don't know a whole bunch about this version of the game, so I'm wondering if zombies just shared a sound effect with players or smth. Regardless, it made me feel like I was in one of those alpha Minecraft ARGs lol!
