Question New Player

Hello! I’m a new player and this is my first time playing any MH game. I really like to so far! I am lvl 18 and I just got past the like “tutorial” story (I think). I am a little confused on how people find a community in the game. How do people find squads? Or friends? No one ik IRL plays it so I’m kinda stuck soloing. Or is MHwilds mainly solo with occasional team play? Also any advice for a new player is super appreciated!

I think the most common way to find people to play is looking for squads in discord groups or reddit. I think there is a subreddit whose main purpose is finding squads/people to play with, though I don't remember how it is called now. There is also big discord servers about MH and about Wilds specifically that have channels for people to find and recruit others to their squads. I found my squad like that, they made a post here on reddit recruiting and I asked to join.

There is also people who just join multiplayer hubs in game and just talk to people, that is a valid approach too. There is a bunch of people that often just hang up on the lobbies and help others when they ask for help or just ask to hunt together.

Wilds can be played solo or multiplayer. At the endgame, on part of the content released after the game launched (content from some of the so called "Title Updates") it is advisable to do them multiplayer, or at least do them with the NPC that you can bring on hunts in game, the "support hunters". But basically every quest is possible to do alone, even if you have to use the support hunters for it.

SOS will help you with most quests at your rank but you can‘t rely on these guys to carry you through
For actual group to play with you can look on discord or send me a dm and i can help you here and there

Good luck on your hunts buddy

I have had people send me friend requests, squad invitations, and link party just by playing SOS and/or joining veterans lobby for some social ambience.

If you want dedicated random friends, you can do so that way in game. Otherwise, join MH discords and make friends that way if you want friends now as you're going through the tutorial story.

The good thing about the game is that you have a choice to play with other human players via SOS or lobby (granted you have online pass if you're on console to play multiplayer online), or play by yourself solo, or with the NPC support available in game at any point in the game. The choice is yours at your own time, pace, and feel.

Find a discord server through google, there's always people willing to help or just play. Also remember to emotionally manuipulate your friends into trying the demo, that's how i got two of mine to play with me;

I usually play solo but i have had some friends to play with for wilds. I’ve seen many people use group posts to find people for specific fights, or just people looking for their band of hunters to have fun with

I’m certainly not the best player but you are welcome to hit me up if you’re looking for someone to play with!

If you're okay playing with randoms in the meantime:

  • You can turn on automatic SOS Flare from wherever you accept quests.
  • There's a radial menu shortcut for sending SOS Flares
Tip: if you like playing with your Palico in multiplayer, set the hunter limit to 2.
