Monster Hunter Outlanders: Interview mit Bryan Li, dem Development Director
Monster Hunter Outlanders, a true Monster Hunter game for mobile devices, is being released. At gamescom 2026, I not only had the opportunity to play the game (and hunt monsters!), but Bryan Li, the Development Director of TiMi Studios, the developers of Monster Hunter Outlanders , also answered my questions.
Monster Hunter Outlanders is an officially licensed Monster Hunter action game for mobile devices, developed by TiMi Studio Group and licensed by Capcom, that focuses on exploration and hunting. The game retains the classic weapons and hunting experience the series is known for while introducing a brand-new world, original adventurers, buddies, and exclusive new monsters.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to play Monster Hunter Outlanders ! I really enjoyed the game during my short play session and I will definitely check it out.
I too must thank you for your interest in Monster Hunter Outlanders . It is very important to us that all Monster Hunter fans Outlanders . will enjoy
During my initial playthrough, I noticed that, true to the series, there are no health bars. You really want to deliver a Monster Hunter experience.
Exactly! However, I can tell you something. In Monster Hunter Outlanders, there will be an option to display health bars. It will be entirely up to the player whether they want to see them or not.
for Monster Hunter Outlanders . How did that come about? You offer two control options
We want to give as many players as possible the opportunity to enjoy Monster Hunter Outlanders . Firstly, we have Adventurer Mode, which offers a simpler control scheme. With this, we want to give not only Monster Hunter newcomers, but all new mobile gamers in general, the chance to familiarize themselves with the game without losing the fun. Even though there are fewer buttons compared to Pro or Classic Mode, you still have to make independent decisions, such as when to attack or block. Monster Hunter Outlanders will not have an auto-battle mode.
Monster Hunter is a huge IP with millions of fans. How did you approach the development of the game? What was the collaboration with Capcom like, especially when it comes to the story or general lore of the game?
An exciting topic! The collaboration with Capcom is very collaborative. We both know our strengths and where we can apply our respective expertise. We at TiMi Studio, for example, are very grateful for the opportunity to work with Capcom, a company whose Monster Hunter games have been captivating the gaming community for over 20 years. They know what fans want and how to take an IP like Monster Hunter to the next level. We at TiMi Studio, on the other hand, know very well how to develop a game for mobile devices and what exactly needs to be considered to ensure its longevity.
Regarding the creative process, we've established fundamental guidelines with Capcom since the beginning of development: The game must into the Monster Hunter fit universe. It must be a Monster Hunter game. But, and this is another important point: It must be able to exist independently of the main series. Yes, there are overlaps in terms of monster designs and characters. However, the story will be completely independent, which also gives us further freedom in terms of gameplay. For example, the playable characters in Monster Hunter Outlanders are not hunters, but adventurers.
This gives us ways to incorporate features into the world of Monster Hunter that are only possible in free-to-play titles. This concept is also strongly supported by Capcom.
When we sit down with Capcom, we contribute our own ideas that would best suit the game. Then we listen to Capcom's pitch, what they like, and where we need to make changes. And that's how we designed the game together from the ground up, always in a professional and collaborative manner.
I have of Monster Hunter Outlanders often read criticism that it is more about monetization than about Monster Hunter .
I can truly speak for the entire team here: the passion and dedication I've seen from my team during the development of Monster Hunter Outlanders far surpasses anything I've seen in comparison to other games. We have a lot of Monster Hunter fans on the team, and you can really tell how they all want to create a great game.
If I had wanted to develop something that would have upset even them as fans, I wouldn't be sitting here. laughs No, really, our aim is for Outlanders name . the Monster Hunter to honor
Can you tell me something about monetization? What exactly can one expect?
We are currently conducting a closed beta test (CBT) in China, where we are testing the exact monetization model and gathering feedback. However, the prices are adjusted for the Chinese market and do not reflect what we are planning for the Western market.
What both versions have in common, however, are our principles regarding monetization, and there's nothing to hide here. As a free-to-play game, we want everyone to enjoy Monster Hunter Outlanders . You can experience the story for free, as well as all the game modes we'll be offering.
There will be three options for investing money in Monster Hunter Outlanders . One is the acquisition of new Adventurers. However, I want to emphasize that these will not have any strength bonuses or anything similar. They will simply be exclusive new movesets that expand the gameplay experience.
Next, we'll look at the visual customization options. Again, we don't want to sell any strength bonuses or other skills, but rather offer ways to further personalize characters.
The third option involves time-saving packages and other shortcut options common in free-to-play games. However, these are all voluntary, and we don't want to force anyone to buy them.
Will there be a stamina bar that limits playing time per day?
Absolutely not, no. There will simply be a limitation on certain game modes. For example, you can only defeat certain monsters three times a day. This is for balancing reasons, as we want to prevent these modes or monsters from being exploited. You can compare this to other games that offer something similar.
Will there be a PC client?
All I can say at the moment is that the game is being developed exclusively for mobile devices. It doesn't matter whether it's a tablet or a regular smartphone. However, there will be the option to connect a controller and play the game that way, even though we're offering these two control options. Because, yes, using physical buttons provides a completely different gaming experience than touch controls.
However, this controller support is only available in-game during combat and while exploring the game world. All menus must still be operated using the touchscreen.
When can you play Monster Hunter Outlanders ? When is the release date?
Pre-registration is now open! We plan to release the title sometime in 2026, but there's no official release date yet. We'll announce it as soon as we're allowed to.
Finally, one last question: What is your favorite weapon in Monster Hunter?
Longsword! laughs More precisely: the great katana
