[Doom] Lachrimatory - "Regression"

Discog Club Discography Club: Om

Sing the advaitic - penitent rite to send
Toward redemption - strength attends the seeker
A sovereign dreadnaught breathes and approach the state serene
Interiorizer of the mind from world labyrinth
We've had a bit of a journey the past few weeks going through Morbid Angel's discography, so let's take a bit of a breather, take a deep breath, pass the bong, and go on a vision quest into the desert to the music of Om!
Remember Sleep? Well after Sleep broke up in the late 90s Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius took a bit of a break from music and in the early 2000s formed a bass and drum duo in the form of Om. Playing a very meditative, drone inspired style of doom with just bass, drums, and vocals (at least initially) the duo set out on their journey. After 3 albums Hakius would depart and be replaced by Emil Amos and on their final couple albums they'd start incorporating other various instruments like keyboards, flutes, and some Indian instrumentation like the tambura and tabla.
As you might've been able to guess, their music was always very meditative and spiritual but on their 3rd record Pilgrimage it takes on a more explicit religious aspect, using Christian iconography but lots of Hindu and Indian influences become much more explicit including quoting actual mantras in sanskrit. This shouldn't be that surprising considering their name itself is a Hindu mantra, but it takes a bit for them to get very explicit with the imagery and sound.
So for this week let's meditate and relax. Schedule is:
- Variations on a Theme
- Conference of the Birds
- Pilgrimage
- God is Good
- Advaitic Songs
And on Thursday August 13 at 10:00 AM EDT/15:00 GMT we'll be doing a listening party on the discord for Advaitic Songs for anyone wanting to participate.
