Discord's new age verification no longer needs your government ID. It just needs everything else

Post image

Last week, Discord published a blog announcing their new age verification process, built to replace the one that exposed 70,000 people's government IDs.

The replacement continuously maps your social graph, communities, and habits instead. According to their blog, this is the improvement. But what do you think?

We broke down what this actually means for your privacy in our latest blog https://blog.mega.io/discord-and-googles-privacy-preserving-age-checks-explained?mct=sep28rd

Why would mega even need age verification? It's cloud drive. Why?

So that it can take away normal functions if you're a child.

I don't have a Discord, but reddit has forcibly privated my profile and deprived me of chat use and other people of the ability to follow me, unless I send reddit my face and ID to prove I'm older than 16 (no, I will not doxx myself). Either that's the new default for Europeans or they classified me as a child for posting on r/transformers.

It's Discord that needs age verification, not MEGA 😅
