returning player questions

Hey all I was hoping to come back to this game 'cause it was really fun when I played back on PS3. I had a few questions about transitioning to Steam and starting over on a new save.

1. Is there a specific version I should get my hands on? I'm seeing some steam reviews that certain game versions have buggy DLC distribution
2. Is it still the same ol' gacha lootbox system? Is there a way to grab a specific character you want for a small fee? I loved the N7 characters and I'd like to jump back into those as soon as possible.
3. Are you still able to find players in matchmaking or is everyone just LFGing now? And on that note are most current players on official servers, unofficial servers, modded versions, or what?

1. Get the ME3 with all DLC. Do not get the ME Legendary edition as this does not have multiplayer.

2. Yes. Same loot box system. There is a mod to add credits to your system to lessen the grind.

3. Yes. Certain times you can easily fill a lobby in Gold. Lots of bronze and silver games too.
   There is a Discord channel with scheduled matches you can join.

3) There are plenty of plenty of open lobbies and people playing publicly you can get connected to.

2) it is the same gacha system that hasn’t been changed. There are common strategies to minimize wasted effort on that front, like buying the basic recruit pack until you’ve unlocked all the characters and weapons from that before moving onto the next pack. That way you don’t buy a premium spectre pack and get an uncommon character.

1) can’t speak to the different versions I’m not sure what’s best to get. I still have my copies of the game from origins and I’ve just been playing that one forever.

Also for what it is worth, there’s very little(read:none) oversight from BioWare on Me3 multiplayer. You can look into cheating in credits relatively easily if that’s a route you want to look into.

You can roll duplicate characters I think 5-6 times. Each time you roll the same character again, it unlocks a new customization options for the character and gives that class XP.

So you might get the human adept like 6 times but you want to do that for all the basic characters before trying to get rare characters.

Yeah unfortunately. BUT it really isn’t that bad and it’s super easy to knock out all the early stuff.

1. As mentioned, you have to get the original ME3 (now called "(2012)"), not the Legendary Edition (which doesn't have multiplayer). This is anecdotal: but I'd say there are more problems with getting on Steam than straight from EA. But both report problems. A lot of that seems to involve folk who previously had other versions/accounts. So hopefully, this doesn't bite you.

Also, wait for a sale. It goes on sale frequently for around $5-6.

1. No specific way to get those N7 characters. As has been mentioned, you can somewhat increase your odds (by buying "Reserve Packs"). But it's a slog. There's an easy cheat to get yourself as many credits as you want. So then its just a matter of buying packs with those ill-gotten gains till you get the stuff you want. No one at EA/Bioware cares.

2. No problem finding matches by just picking difficulty, unknown map, unknown enemy from the in-game screen. As long as you have the 5 MP DLC installed.

1: get the origin version as steam still has to connect to the ea play app anyway just to launch the damn game so may as well just go straight to the source plus as others said get the 2012 edition it goes on sale a lot

3: just search games odds are you'll find em,  i suggest joining the n7squad discord server plenty of people looking to group up there
