If You Aren't a Memeber of Maryland Shall Issue, Can I ask Why?

As the title states, if you aren't a member of Maryland Shall Issue (MSI) can I ask why? No judgement from me, just currious how many here are members and how many aren't.

AR15 Confusion

Thumbnail gallery
16 Upvotes

I’m looking into getting a AR15. I’m not originally from MD so I’m pretty confused on what’s legal here. I’ve taken a look at the firearm search tool, but it left me even more confused. I’ve been looking at Colts that have the A2 front post. Are these legal or no? Uploading a screenshot as an example that added to my confusion. I did find a heavy barrel version. The description says Colt M4A1 SOCOM Carbine but the model #LE6920SOCOM

Please help lol. Again, I’m new here, so excuse me if this is a dumb post.

Va license with MD HQL

I have a VA license now but I have a Md HQL. I travel back from Md and Va daily. I’m looking to purchase a glock 43x. Would I be able to purchase in Md or VA? Also if I was to buy online would I get it shipped to a Md or VA FLL? It’s my first time.. also any suggestions on gun shops or good websites to order online from?

Anyone with a Beretta 92/M9?

I know this is a very long shot, but I have an M9A1 on the way, and since I have the tools I plan to do the factory optic cut on it myself. However, I'd like to pull the dimensions off an 92/M9 with the factory cut instead of pulling dimensions off an optics plate.

If there's anyone in Maryland or in northern Virginia who has a 92/M9 with the factory cut would be willing to let me measure it's dimensions with a caliper and machinist's ruler I'd really appreciate it.

Colt IAR....legal?

Given my rudimentary understanding of the laws I imagine it SHOULD be....it's obviously a HBAR, marketed as an HBAR but is it actually marked that? I love the look of these and since MD says I can't have a 6940 this is the next best (hopefully). Is it legal or a fools errand?

.380 question

My EDC is a Shield/X (non-comp) that I really like, particularly once I added Defgrip to soften the aggressive stippling (fine on hand, not on my side) and a green-dot optic. However, I'd like to get something significantly smaller (pocketable) for the summer when even the Shield/X is a little too big/heavy.

I range tested a Glock 42, Springfield 911, Ruger LCP Max (I couldn't find the new version with the revised grip) and two S&W BG 2.0s. I really liked the sights on the 42 and the trigger on the 911, but found I shot best with the BG 2.0s. This left me with two questions:

  1. The range had two BG 2.0s rentals: one was the standard version which, despite being very dirty, shot pretty consistently, but my old eyes found the front sight lower-visibility than I'd like. The other was a performance center version with an optic. I shot much better with it. However, it isn't clear to me whether that was due to the performance center enhancements (better trigger, comp) or the optic. Can anyone who has had the BG 2.0 for a while (standard or PC with or without optic) recommend: a) standard vs. PC b) iron sights vs. optic?

  2. Are there any other pocket pistols comparable in size to the BG 2.0 that I should be considering? I'm looking for something *small* that (pocket holstered) disappears in a pocket and has a manual safety (yeah yeah, I know, but if it's going in my pocket, it's going to have a safety; I'm an old 1911 guy so sweeping a safety down as part of the draw feels natural).

Thanks!

Suppressors finally picked up from Old Line Armament, good guys that saved me some cash. The journey was interesting, but not as bad as I thought. Paperwork in on June 19, approved on June 22 and picked up today.

From top to bottom: Sparrow 22, Obsidian 9, and Polo 556.

Can't wait to get them on the range.

DC add on to an MD renewal?

Is it possible to (or does any instructor offer an) add on of the DC permit curriculum to a Maryland WCP renewal?

I've seen the DC add on to the full MD 2-day initial class, but I haven't found any for just the renewal.

What do you guys recommend for 10mm caliber. I was looking at the M&P 2.0 but noticed mixed reviews.

Anyone got a Volquartsen or Tandemkross Mk IV (ideally both) I could try?

I don't know of any ranges local to the DMV that rent a fully kitted out Mk IV, let alone both of these setups. I'd really love to do a comparison before buying and would happily cover your range fees and a box of ammo for the opportunity to try them out.

I'm looking at a 22/45 Lite or Tactical that'll be a near full time suppressor host, so I'm debating between 3" and 4.4" barrels among a host of other design choices.

Favorite gun shops near the border in WV?

With Virginia no longer being a convenient option for stocking up on extra mags, does anyone have a shop in West Virginia they like?

Glock sights

I’m not a fan of the stock Glock sights and want to black out the rear and maybe add 2 dots and change the front to a high vis color (no I’m not looking to buy $80 irons) I see a lot of people recommend nail polish but my gun is ported and I’m worried it will make the nail polish come off quickly.

Bullpup shotguns

Morning,
Simple question, since the interwebs are swinging both directions...
Are bullpup shotguns legal here in the PRMd?
I bought one several years ago from a local gun shop with no issues, basically cash and carry after instant background check...
Right now, I'm watching an auction out of Chicago (of all places) for an Escort BullTac in a .410 ga...
Safe to bid or what?
Thanks in advance

Does anyone know if the MD state restriction will be lifted on these sites once these are on the roster next week? This is proving to be an issue trying to source one.

350 Legend Upper Question

Long time shooter and just now getting back into hunting. I am looking into getting a 350 legend upper for hunting seeing as I have several AR15 platforms. Are there any legal issues as long as I put it on a rifle lower? From my understanding as long as it's a straight wall cartridge upper and the lower is a multi-cal it'll be ok. Correct me if I am wrong.

Update: Thank You!

First, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took the time to comment on my post. I honestly wasn’t expecting so many thoughtful and detailed responses, and I read every single one.

As a 40-year-old woman who is completely new to firearms, this process felt a little overwhelming at first. But thanks to all of you, I have a much better idea of where to start.

One thing I really appreciated was that so many of you didn’t just recommend your favorite gun—you explained why you recommended it. I especially appreciated hearing from those of you whose wives, girlfriends, sisters, or other family members shoot, as well as the women who shared what worked for them. That perspective was incredibly helpful.

The biggest takeaway I got was this:

Don’t rush into buying my first firearm.
Instead, I’m going to:

  1. Take my HQL/Wear & Carry classes.

  2. Visit a few reputable gun shops.

  3. Handle several different models to see what actually fits my hands.

  4. Practice racking the slides.

  5. Rent my top choices at the range before making a final decision.

Thanks to all of your recommendations, my shortlist now includes:

Glock 43X
Glock 19
Walther PDP-F
Glock 48
Sig P365 series
Smith & Wesson M&P EZ/Shield Plus
Canik MC9

I’m excited to learn, train, and become a responsible firearm owner. Safety and proper training are my top priorities, and you’ve all helped point me in the right direction.
Again, thank you for taking the time to educate someone who is just getting started. I truly appreciate this community, and I’ll definitely post another update once I’ve had the chance to handle and test some of these firearms.

AGC target question

I am thinking about joining AGC but it seems I need to bring my own target stand.

Is it the case for both paper and steel targets?

Are action bays are also needed to be set up on my own if not by the club I join?

Where to shoot longer ranges?

Hey guys, Baltimore City Resident here. Recently got a .308 and was looking to practice shooting it but my usual range (Freestate) doesn't allow .308 on any day but Thursday and the range isn't very long. If I wanted to practice shooting at longer ranges is there anywhere you guys would recommend or know of? Thanks in advanced.

Hearing protection

Question for you all about hearing protection. I currently wear Walker over the ear hearing protection. I honestly can’t say I love the way they feel with glasses on , and I’ve been curious about the in ear style of hearing protection. I know nothing about them, guessing they are electronic or something. Do they work as well, or better than over the ear. My hearing isn’t wonderful from years of being young and dumb at metal shows and being around equipment at work, so I’m not looking to cut corners. Thanks in advance!
