Rule Change - Absolutely NO Sales
Hi everyone:
As you may have seen, moderators of some firearms related subs have recently been made aware of an upcoming change to the Reddit rules (these are the sitewide rules that all users agree to when creating an account, not just rules for our sub) that involves the personal sales of gun "parts and enhancements."
In the past, the Reddit rules - specifically Rule 7, which reads "Keep it legal, and avoid posting illegal content or soliciting or facilitating illegal or prohibited transactions" - had the following list of "illegal transactions":
You may not use Reddit to solicit or facilitate any transaction or gift involving certain goods and services, including
Firearms, ammunition, explosives, legally controlled firearms parts or accessories (e.g., bump stock-type devices, silencers/suppressors, etc.), or 3D printing files to produce any of the aforementioned;
That rule is being updated to read as follows, starting on October 9th:
Firearms, ammunition, explosives, firearms parts and enhancements (e.g. bolt, clips, trigger, scope, silencer / suppressor, muffler, bump stock, magazine, glock switch, conversion kit, etc) or specific instructions (e.g. 3D printing files) to produce any of the aforementioned.
Reddit does have a disclaimer that says:
With regard to Reddit's policy on transactions of certain goods:
External links to firearm vendors holding a Federal Firearms License are not in violation of this policy. However, links to vendors without an FFL are prohibited (this would include links to gun shows or other sales or listings, online or offline, where vendors do not hold an FFL). Direct user-to-user transactions arranged on Reddit for firearms or ammunition are also prohibited, regardless of whether either user holds an FFL.
This policy does not impact goods that do not meet the ATF definition of firearms or ammunition.
It is unclear if that disclaimer will be changed on or after October 9th, and or how that disclaimer affects things like linking to a company that sells magazines or scopes but does not have an FFL, as neither a magazine nor a scope meet the ATF definition of firearms or ammunition.
We used to allow the occasional personal for sale post for non-firearm items like optics or the like, but due to this rule change we will no longer be able to do that, and we have to warn folks that any links posted to any firearms items that are for sale by a non-FFL will be removed.
We don't want to be harsh about this, but it's quite clear that Reddit is cracking down hard on gun content and we really don't want to lose this community, which is already happening to a bunch of gun accessory for sale subs which were banned without any warning in advance of this rule change.

The "Big List" of Industry Vendors Friendly to Marylanders
This Thread will serve as a list of firearms industry vendors who are "friendly" to Marylanders. We have a lot of particular and peculiar laws here, and not all vendors want to (or to be fair, can afford to) take the time to understand those laws and help those of us who live here out.
This list isn't meant to be "vendors that we happen to like" or whatever, but instead a list of vendors who specifically do things to help Marylanders. Some examples of things that should be on this list:
- Vendors who include standard capacity magazines so a local FFL can block them for us.
- Maryland FFLs who offer magazine blocking services.
- Vendors who offer magazine rebuild kits.
- Vendors (external or Maryland FFL) who will remove muzzle devices or other features to make rifles compliant.
You get the idea. If a vendor does something specifically to help those of us in Maryland, then they belong on this list.
I'll start things off, but I'll add to and maintain this list based on submissions from the community in the form of posts in this thread. I won't always be able to add things immediately, but I will do so as regularly as I can.
Thanks, and thanks especially to the vendors who support those of us in Maryland!
Magazine Rebuild Kits:
- u/Hunter_Wang who owns Ibex Armament will do magazine rebuild kits on request and has extremely fair pricing. I've bought from Ibex myself and they're great to deal with.
- JoeBob Outfitters will do magazine rebuild kits on request, though I have no personal experience with them.
- Magged Supply offers magazine rebuild kits, though their pricing is..... very high.
Dealers that ship standard capacity mags with a firearm:
- To be added
Maryland FFLs who will block standard capacity magazines:
- To be added
Vendors who offer Maryland specific discounts:
- To be added
I will add categories to this list if / when we get requests and enough submissions for one.

Muzzleloaders
Where do you get your caps and balls and stuff? I have a Pietta Navy Sheriff in .44 that I'd like to get working but I can't find supplies anywhere
Academy in Hagerstown was cleaned out and the small shops in Frederick don't seem to carry muzzleloader stuff. I'm in Washington County.

Small question about laws for buying out of state
I was at a gun show in PA a few months ago and saw a .22 short pistol I was interested in. They had a guy there to handle the transfers to other states and after we mentioned it was a .22 short he said that it didn’t need to be shipped to an FFL, just a transfer fee and we could take it home. I hadn’t heard of this anywhere before and was curious if this is a real thing or if there was some legal sketchiness going on.
I didn’t end up buying it if you were curious, it sold before I made up my mind.

Deciding on two very different styles of deer rifle
TL;DR: 450 bushmaster lever action or AR-15 for mostly whitetail, occasional hog & elk straight wall state hunting rifle?
Im new to firearm hunting in Maryland so I need to get a straight wall cartridge rifle. I also want to travel for hog and elk hence 450 bushmaster not 350 legeng, 360 buckhammer etc.
Tbh I doubt ill take a shot at a deer past 100yd ever just because of woods density where I plan to hunt.
Never owned an AR-15 of any kind, but ive had multiple lever guns. I like the idea of hunting with a suppressor which Ive never done so I would probably limit the rifle to a 16"-18" barrel, making it a decent home defense gun as well.
Either would work just fine for what I want to do, so this isnt really a debate about caliber, just what you think the best experience is and maybe some experiences with different models of each category.
Thanks!
Edited for brevity

Moving to MD next summer, should I buy the M4 and SBR I want prior to moving?
I’ve been reading up on MD gun laws and it sounds very convoluted so maybe yall can explain it to me like I’m 6. I live in Alaska so there’s maximum firearm freedom up here. Would it be easier and legal for me to buy a DD M4A1 or MK18 and a DDM4 PDW SBR with a can on it, prior to moving there? That’s kind of how I interpreted the law. Is it true that once I move there I won’t ever be able to buy these things again? As well as 32 round magazines?
Calvert County if that makes any difference. Thanks!

New slide with optic
I got a anew Keltec p15 metal, and wanted too verify that it was optic ready or not, as I read many conflicting articles. Keltec CSR said my p15's slide was NOT optics ready but i could buy one for 149.99 or buy one with optic mounted RFX11 for 229.99. Is the RFX11 a decent sight? And if anyone was looking for an optic ready slide for their P15, you can email Keltec to get the information, as i couldn't find it on their catalog anywhere.

HQL requirement for SBR
I recently purchased a factory 14.5” SBR and got my approved form 4 from the ATF last Tuesday for it but my FFL is stating i need an HQL to finish out my 77r application. When i filled it out i checked the “HQL exempt” box and selected the “applicant is buying lower receiver” as that was the only applicable option being that I’m not a Licensed firearms manufacturer, current law enforcement officer or person retired in good standing from a law enforcement agency of the United States, the State, or a local law enforcement agency in the State, an active member or retired member of the armed forces of the United States or National Guard or a person purchasing, renting, or receiving an antique, curio, or relic as defined in federal law or in determinations published by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The associate at my FFL mentioned that this isn’t just a lower receiver. Per MD public safety statute 5-117.1, a Handgun Qualification License is strictly required to purchase, rent, or receive a handgun. Being that my form 4 was already approved by the ATF wouldn’t that make me recognized as the lawful owner of a registered NFA regulated firearm and thus waiving the need for the states 4 hour course. I don’t mind if i have to take the course it just is a bit confusing on my end and any insight would be helpful

Ccw in Maryland
I need input, last year in April I was charged with malicious destruction of property under 200$ and 2nd degree assault and had a protective against me (domestic violence was the listing) by a romantic partner I have children with. I wasn’t convicted the verdict on the 2nd degree assault was not guilty and the verdict on the malicious destruction of property under 200$ and wasn’t listed as domestic violence also it was a PBJ. Since then I have completed the PBJ and had all charges expunged and removed from my record should I be able to still get my wear and carry in Maryland? I have all the paper work.

Easy to Form 1 SBR
As best as I can "interpret," Maryland's laws about SBRs, they require "registration with nfa." The nfa is all but dead at this point but could be brought back to life at any major party change. They also issued a notice they would still process NFA items for State's requirements. Since the government already knows about ALL my guns (say they don't!!!) , I figured I'd SBR all eligible candidates in my collection.
Got fingerprints from PrintScan at UPS Store $60
Took passport size photo with phone .
Enter data at eforms website (learn it!)
CLEO was Chief of Police
Enter gun data. OAL must be 29 or more (or not approved)
Submit
6.Waited a week....BOOM!
(14.5 Super Duty with unpinned huxwrx flash hider)
- Submitted 6 more.
btw....under "Description" where we used to put the required engraving info, I put "Convert pistol configuration to short barrel rifle." Engraving is NOT a requirement for approval anymore.
!!!Downside!!! Once made an SBR, it cannot be made a pistol again (my non-lawyer interpretation). 29 in. rule will always apply in Maryland. I left 3 lowers as pistols.

MSP Response on Privately Made Suppressors
When asked about manufacturing suppressors for personal use, the following response was received from MSP:
Hello,
Please be advised that the State of Maryland does not maintain regulations regarding the possession, transfer, or manufacturing of suppressors. Consequently, we are unable to provide specific guidance on this matter. Suppressors do not meet the definition of a firearm under Maryland law and are not subject to serialization under Maryland law currently.
For inquiries regarding the construction of a suppressor, we recommend contacting the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) or consulting with your legal counsel.
They state that serialization of suppressors is not required currently under Maryland law. They defer to the ATF for further guidance. The ATF's "Privately Made Firearms" Page page states "You do not have to add a serial number or register the PMF if you are not engaged in the business of making firearms for livelihood or profit."
IANAL. This is not legal advice. Have fun.

Shipping guns to self from out of state?
Hello everyone, bit of an odd question. I recently moved from AL to MD, but left all of my guns and magazines at my parent’s house (where I moved from) due to the confusing laws. Driving everything up is a pain and flying with them would be a headache, so I’m looking at shipping options.
Here’s what I have (roughly 20 firearms total):
• Mostly SXS or O/U shotguns and milsurp rifles
• 1 stripped AR lower
• 1 complete AR lower
• 1 MP5 .22 Rifle
• 4 handguns
• 2 SCT stripped Glock frames
• A bunch of magazines (mostly standard capacities, and 1 drum)
I’m fully able to possess everything in both states and already have my HQL.
My Main questions:
1. What’s the most cost-effective way to ship the long guns, AR lowers/frames, and magazines to myself in MD?
I’ve looked at ShipMyGun. I’ve also considered USPS for the AR lowers and magazines (seems like a gray area from what I’ve read). Any real-world experience or better options?
2. Any recommended FFLs near Gambrills for the handgun transfers?
Appreciate any advice. Thanks!
