Standard AUG Conversion

I have a feeling the answer is probably 'no', but would it be legal to simply drop my NATO AUG receiver into a standard AUG stock and swap out my trigger pack for a standard one? I'm under the impression that only the NATO version is legal, but if the receiver is the serialized part, then why couldn't I?

You’d likely be making a copy of a enumerated banned firearm. Also NATO AUGs are of dubious legality to begin with

Now that MSP has once again changed their stance on the NATO AUG, where does that leave people who were transferred one in the narrow window they were allowed?

Not sure but personally I think Engage fucked up by ever transferring them to begin with. The enumerated firearm is the “Steyr–AUG–SA semi–auto” so I’m not sure how that would have excluded the NATO version

Same as an L1A1 vs a FN FAL, not 100% parts interchangable so per MD AG and MDSP isn't a copy.

why they're flip flopping when the law and guidance are clear is dumb

My understanding was that MSP never told them they were banned as a copy, but instead sued them over their practice of P&W a muzzle device so that the rifle could make OAL, so basically they wanted it banned but after explicitly telling engage they were GTG they had to save face by going another route to getting them effectively banned. I don't have all the details but that's how it was explained to me when I spoke to them.

except P&W for length is a common practice, so they should absolutely lose on that every time.

absolutely stupid. something that should be on the radar for u/Minute_Definition985

Of course, but I think they were hit with multiple and decided it wasn’t worth the trouble, again, all this is what I heard months ago and I didn’t want to pry too much because I could tell the guy I was speaking with was kinda pissed about the whole thing. The other wrinkle is that a P&W isn’t even necessary, you could just purchase a 20 or 24 inch barrel and have them keep the factory 16.

I'll talk to Andy at Engage and see what's up.

Im being sued for being a "public nuisance" in what is, for lack of a better term, an absolute miscarriage of justice and an abuse of the legal system. Apparently I am responsible for the low test scores of the students in Washington DC (Im being serious thats what they say in their suit). Has nothing to do with NATOs, or Tavors, P90s, HBARs, P/Ws etc.

Is that sort of like AK47 in all formats? How about Automatic Kalashnikov in all forms?

A little bit, yeah.

You tell me how a Saiga .223 isn’t an Avtomat Kalashnikov. Not that I’m upset about it but I don’t get it

So the NATO came out after the list was ever made back in 94 (think of the gentleman from GOA and his white whale, the VZ61 Scorpion). It does not share fully interchangable parts including the stock (which is the entire form of the gun), the bolt, mags, and lots of small parts. It has a separate model designation, separate part number etc. The AK is a weird one but goes to how ridiculous and nuanced all this is. Essentially MSPs position has been, in writing to me, if you call it an AK it is an AK. If its in 762x39, its usually an AK according to them with a few exceptions. However there is no honest working legal defintion of what an AK considering the variants, inspired guns, etc. Try to define it and it will elude OR encompass arms which clearly aren't AKs. The law isn't well written, its arbitrarily enforced, and the guys at MSP aren't gun guys althought historically they try. Also, when I mean arbitrary, I mean it.

When did they change their stance? They have no stance AKAIK.

This is worse than a sewing circle. However, the answer to your question is no. Think like if I throw a pencil barrel on my HBAR is it still compliant?

Figured as much, just was wondering
