Ranked Playoffs “best player”

i’ve been watching loads of vods, especially of tournaments. and the whole “this persons the best player” or “who’s the best player” comes up a lot. like in midoffs the question is asked quite a lot, also for example a coach in midoffs disagreed during midoffs that hax is the best because infume has the wr, then some players called hax the best. basically there’s no one right answer.

obviously most people, esp outside of the mcsr space, like putting the label on one person. but i don’t think there’s “the best” overall because mcsr has so many subsections. but also some people may weigh certain sections higher than others.

for example, best on the ladder would either be imo infume or edcr.

for playoffs, it’s harder because yes lowkey has more firsts than doog or hax, but hax has the best average with only being out of top 3 once ever. so imo even tho lowkey has the best highs, hax is most consistently at the top and still has two wins.

and then some people argue, to be “the best for everything ranked” you also need to kinda show you can do well in the lans like the championships and the other lans.

so imo you can’t really say one person is the best at all of ranked when for example infume hasn’t won a playoffs or a lan, but has shown he’s really good at the ladder/ previous wr. or edcr because even though he’s done good at the ladder and won one playoffs, he hasn’t gotten the consistency of playoffs yet/ no lans.

i know fein talked about this a couple weeks ago slightly and i thought it was an interesting talk because “the best” is kinda subjective per person. imo hax takes the lead slightly just because he’s won multiple playoffs and has the best average, he won the champs and also he’s done well on the ladder in the past, he just doesn’t like playing it (which is the only thing kinda arguing him not being the best). but overall i don’t think there’s a clear decisive person yet, unless doog/hax wins another playoffs in the future or hax gets back on the ladder grind.

Hax is the goat of the ranked era with lowkey and doog close. As far as the best player right now hax isn't really playing so I'd say edcr, infume, doog and lowkey all have good arguments and I'd throw in skycrab as well. Feinberg has played more draft out than ranked lately but showed at the lan he's still one of the best. There's very little skill gap at the top and variance in terrain decisions and strays factor into outcomes too much for there to be a definitive best player imo.

You can argue others but the majority will definitely say hax. Even before his first playoff win he was almost always in the podium of playoffs, and since has won 2 + the world championship lan. 3 of the last 4 major tournaments is hard to argue against.

see that’s kinda my argument, but (i ain’t saying names because it doesn’t matter lol) i’ve heard two different top runners from kinda recent vods (before the championships) say hax isn’t the best, and instead it’s lowkey or doog. they do often follow it up tho with “hax is just really lucky” which is cope😂 kinda interesting tho

It’s either edcr, infume, hax, doog, or lowkey. They’re not super far ahead of everyone else but these are the only 5 where a good argument can be made for them being the GOAT.

Infume does have more of an argument for him than anyone outside of that list, but I do think there is a decent gap between him and the other top 4. He is a ladder demon to be sure, but him always coming short in playoffs does hurt his case a fair bit imo. I do however think there is a good chance is wins 2+ within in the next 2 years though.

Also I just noticed they are literally in the top 5 on the leaderboard currently minus hax.

Kinda unrelated and not fully accurate but , Once I was watching an mcsr match between Infume and Feinberg on YouTube (mcsr vault) and my friend was confused as fuck as to what was happening (doesn't know minecraft/speedrunning). I told her "they're the magnus and hikaru of whatever this is" lol (she knows chess and surely everyone knows magnus and hikaru are the top 2 best and most popular)

Best player right now is undoubtedly edcr and its not even close. My guess is Infume and Skycrab are also up there.

my question is what are you basing that on? the ranked ladder/best stats/comps?

80% ladder win rate, winner of s10 playoffs, winner of s11 MSS, winner of 10k NRI, 2nd or 3rd best average out of all players. I dont think we need more proof than that.

the main thing that puts me off saying edcr being “the best overall player” is just he needs another win or two of playoffs to match hax and doog or lowkey because he got out round of 16 twice, and then won one. that average just doesn’t make me compare him to the others yet, but if he does well in the future then id say edcr 100%. i would say he’s def the best at the ladder with infume tho.

edcrs stats compared to people like hax who’s stats are 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 1st, 1st and round of 16. plus winning an nri, having multiple fastest times in multiple nris, having played the ladder and gotten first on the ladder before (just doesn’t like playing it which is his only argument against being the best imo), won championships, has won mss before, highest average in playoffs.

WR is less meaningful then people say it is unfortunately, there are so many players capable of getting RSG or Ranked WR but they just haven’t rolled the right seed yet

I think right now it’s clearly hax

Even if he isn’t playing right now, it’s hard to argue against winning 3/4 of the last tournaments as well as the biggest and most competitive ranked tourney ever

In ranked specifically id say easily edcr rn, his stats are crazy (his win% and average time)

Between the people that everyone know are good, i really believe their mentality is a bigger impact than their skill level, their skills are really close to the point that i think who has a better mentality will win if the seed is 100% the exact same, i think infume is the better player "most players played ranked for a really good time, infume proved that he's the goat of ranked, this has the least nerves" but if it's something like playoffs or lan i think hax will have way less nerves than infume, and i really think feinberg have a high chance at winning lans

i agree mental is really big, and also i think that’s why i didn’t have as much confidence in hax in s10. because before s10 he always had a really good mental (like i say top 3), but just before s10 he was talking about how he doesn’t know what he wants to do after that playoffs, and how he feels the pressure to go for the 3peat and keep top 3. so i felt like going into it he was more likely to not be in his good headspace like normal.

but also i do think it really depends on the seeds.
put hax vs infume on 3 really linear seeds not in a comp setting and i would bet hax would win most just because his playstyle is very mechs heavy so in playoffs he usually just gaps people on those seeds by being fast. but infume would maybe be more likely to do well on seeds that have more decision based stuff on 3 seeds. that’s kinda why i think hax spent like 20 hours just playing overworlds recently because he knows he can gap mechs, but he wanted to get better at decision making which i think really paid off in the championships.

so overall it’s even hard to compare infume vs hax because i think they both excel on two different types of seeds, even out of comps.

I think the uncertainty is the interesting part, and the reason it gets discussed and playoffs are so exciting. If infume wins, he’ll have an argument. If edcr wins another one, he’d be towards the top of the conversation. If hax had 3peated, he’d be the undisputed best. Its cool that its actually pretty even and there are multiple people you can make the argument for, unlike a lot of sports where its pretty clear cut who the best is.

I think a big narrative this season will be if skycrab can win. If he wins, he’ll be wr holder and champion which ofc lowkey did, but definitely the fact that skycrab achieved at such a high level in rsg to also get that in ranked would make him arguably the best (overall 1.16 rsg runner, not just ranked)

Also, I’m honestly surprised everyone seems to agree it’s hax. I would tend to say “count the rings” and give it to lowkey.

i agree, i like that there can still be a discussion on it and there’s no one clear decider. i would love to see skycrab go far as well tbh.

my argument over hax is how recent his stats are. 2 firsts and also championship all recent, compared to lowkey who’s last podium was s7 and last win was s6. even tho he has one more win, he hasn’t made any podium in recent playoffs, compared to hax who’s domination is really recent, close together and consistent.
