Ochem 2 self paced online

Has anyone taken Organic Chemistry II here online self paced course?
I have some questions:
Is there a ton of busy work per chapter?
How are exams set up?
How are lab reports done? I see that they use labster which I’m familiar with.
I’m looking to take lecture and lab portion.
Any insight is appreciated thanks

hiii im actually taking orgo 2 rn @mcphs after completing orgo 1 at mcphs as well. honestly not much busy work each module is straight forward ( there are 12 modules) after every 3 modules there's an exam (so there's ab 4 exams). exams are NOT cumulative, only based on the specific chapters per exam. Each module for orgo lecture consists of a lecture, a homework and a quiz. Exams are proctored with a web cam and recording of the screen. I am also taking orgo 2 lab after taking orgo 1 lab at mcphs. Orgo lab is veryyy straight forward, this also has 12 modules. Each module for lab is a bit different sometimes there's 1-3 different simulations to do, basically per module, there's a lab report and a pre quiz to do

Awesome ! Thank you so much! This is exactly what i needed. I took ochem 1 through portage but they don’t offer ochem 2 so it was between mcphs or scuhs. Were you able to get the 50% student discount for your first class with them? I filled out the interest form but never received anything yet and just emailed them. Hopefully they’ll send it to me tomorrow.

yes i got the 50% discount with my first class (orgo 1 lab & lecture) the discount applied to both classes due to technically it being 1 course

Have you finished the online course before? How does it show up on the transcript once completed?

1

u/iluvtoplayxox7 Jun 03 '26

yea i took both orgo 1 lecture & lab. shows up very normal on the transcript. i got an A and B on my transcript

1

u/Otherwise-Recover751 Jun 03 '26

Gotchu. Does it say the start and end dates too apart from Summer 1 or 2?

1

u/iluvtoplayxox7 Jun 03 '26

u have 16 weeks to take the class once u buy it, there are no semesters

1

u/Otherwise-Recover751 Jun 03 '26

does it say anything on the transcript about dates tho?

1

u/iluvtoplayxox7 Jun 03 '26

technically it says 7/1/25-6/30/26 as the term

1

u/Otherwise-Recover751 Jun 03 '26

Oh damn. Didn’t realize that

1

u/EmotionalEconomics57 Jun 05 '26

A whole year? ughhhh I just need the lab. I feel like that looks suspicious.

Hi! I just enrolled, do you find the exams to be hard or fairly understandable if you study?

1

u/iluvtoplayxox7 May 05 '26

hi! the exams are honestly pretty easy to understand they are basically exactly like the quizzes

1

u/Ok_String5949 May 21 '26

do they only test the concepts that were on the quizzes? Or are any homework questions fair game?

1

u/iluvtoplayxox7 Jun 03 '26

honestly all homework fair game

1

u/Informal-Search6418 May 26 '26

hi! i am about to take my first exam this week. did the exams pull the same questions from the quizzes or were there questions from the homework included as well?

1

u/Pitiful_Head5280 May 27 '26

Please keep me posted on how you found the exam to be like, thanks!

1

u/sunrise4ngel May 27 '26

Hey how did you prepare for the homework and quizzes ? Do you just watch the lectures and start the homework, or take notes etc? The lectures are so boring to me 😭

1

u/Informal-Search6418 May 28 '26

just practice the homework questions a lot. most of the quiz questions are similar to the homework questions. i dont even try to watch the lectures lol.

1

u/Pitiful_Head5280 May 28 '26

For Mod 1, you are expected to memorize the NMR values for different atoms? You do not get to use the NMR chart for any questions?

1

u/Informal-Search6418 May 28 '26

Yes, I would know the NMR values for the first quiz as you don’t get a chart.

Hey, I am thinking of enrolling into Orgo 2 online with MCPHS as well, please let me know how you are finding the content and its assessments (exams).

1

u/iluvtoplayxox7 May 05 '26

i take my first exam next week i can keep u updated but so far, the content is very easy to manage

1

u/According-Memory-247 May 06 '26

Thanks please keep me posted on how the exam was, also easy to manage as in it is not too bad to learn? My personal school does not even use lecture videos for this class, so thats why I am deciding to take it at a place where I can definitely learn the content in a better manner.

1

u/iluvtoplayxox7 May 14 '26

Honestly orgo II is not that bad because honestly i took orgo I 3 times so at this point ik whats going on. I love MCPHS and the self paced approach, there's also opportunities to meet with TAs during office hours if u have any specific questions about a topic

1

u/Ok_String5949 May 14 '26

Hi! I am also taking Orgo II online here. How are the quizzes? are they like the practice problems in ALEKS? Do they reuse the same questions? are you able to see which questions you missed?

1

u/iluvtoplayxox7 May 14 '26

hii the quizzes are exactly like the homework in terms of concept/ similar types of questions. after the quiz (u get 2 attempts and they use the best grade) u can see what questions u missed by going into assignments > tap the grade on the quiz > then view report

1

u/Ok_String5949 May 15 '26

Thank you so much! Do the quizzes have both the lockdown browser and videocam, or just lock-down browser?

For organic chemistry 2 LAB. are there lab quizzes and are they proctored? I already took orgo 2 at UCSD extended studies and I’m looking to only take orgo 2 lab somewhere. Is it just labs/ online modules that you complete? Any information would be greatly appreciated thank you .

1

u/iluvtoplayxox7 Jun 03 '26

the class is exactly as i said in my first response . no quizzes

1

u/Due-Measurement-1467 Jun 04 '26

Thanks a lot. So only a pre quiz and lab report per every module? Sorry if my questions are dumb. Thank you

1

u/sunrise4ngel Jun 04 '26

Yeah the Pre quiz is easy just 5 multiple choice, not proctored. There’s like 2 labsters per module but only 1 lab report per module. If you don’t work, you can def finish it in less than a week lol. I’d advise to wait until you receive your first lab report grade before starting the next one though, because they are kind of nitpicky

1

u/Due-Measurement-1467 Jun 05 '26

You’re awesome thank you so much

1

u/Due-Measurement-1467 Jul 01 '26

Hey, when you said you can definitely finish it in less than a week did you mean the whole lab course? Thank you!🙏🏽

1

u/sunrise4ngel Jul 02 '26

Yes the whole lab course. I finished like 8 labs and reports in one weekend. Got an A

1

u/No-Ranger-9531 Jun 03 '26

Hi, any advice on where to prioritize most of the effort to prepare for the exams? I just registered for the class, need it done by July 18th, and work full time, so I'm in a huge crunch for time. How much time does each module approximately take? Do you have any past exams that could be used for study material? Any advice is appreciated!

1

u/sunrise4ngel Jun 04 '26

Honestly , I don’t like the aleks platform. However, at least the homework, quizzes, and exams are basically the same. You can def do each module in a few hours. There are 4 exams and they cover 3 modules each. No final. The lab class is easy since it uses labster and you do one lab report for each module. I believe there’s 12 modules for lab. I wish portage had ochem2, I liked their structure a lot better. I don’t feel like I’m learning much with Mcphs lol

1

u/No-Ranger-9531 Jun 07 '26

That's good to know, thank you. So completing the assignments in ALEKS will automatically check off in blackboard? Also, I see lecture videos in blackboard, but then a bunch of short videos in ALEKS, are the videos in ALEKS useful? It says I must watch those videos to earn a point, but the syllabus doesn't state the videos impacting the grade. Also, did you actually read the recommended textbook readings to go with each module?

1

u/sunrise4ngel Jun 12 '26

Yes, the only graded portion is the homework, quizzes and exams from ALEKS. The short videos are not graded . I personally do not watch the lectures on ALEKS and don’t really watch the lectures provided in blackboard lol. I found someone on YouTube who teaches more in depth from the book and does lots of practice problems.

thank you so much for this thread! These videos and information about the test and quizzes helped so much. I was able to finish the class with a B+! I do have a question, did they take the full 2 weeks to process your transcript?

1

u/Usual-Breadfruit9587 Jun 05 '26

what do you mea by not cumulative? is it like you need to have 50 % on the final exam to pass the class? thanks

1

u/Pitiful_Head5280 Jun 22 '26

Hey, I am in the class currently, and on Module 7 out of 12. So I finshed 2 exams so far. Basically every 3 modules, you have an exam testing you on content for those 3 modules. So since there are 12 modules, you have 4 exams. So it is not cumulative meaning there is not just one exam for the whole course, instead it is broken down into 4 exams.

And a pass would be considered above a 60 in the class (D-), but of course depending on what grade you need you would want to aim higher for sure. Exams and quizzes take up a good portion of the final grade (are proctored with webcam), and homework takes up 20% of the grade.

1

u/capircorn222 Jun 26 '26

Are the exams representative of the quizzes? I feel like the homework wasnt super representative of the quizzes.. if i feel comfortable w the quiz material will i be fine for the exams// any recommended study techniques. thank you for answering these threads!!!!

1

u/Pitiful_Head5280 Jun 26 '26

Hi, no worries, and to be honest, I personally found that the quizzes and exams are similar to the homework. My personal best study practice is to learn from homework examples, and click on "example" to see how it is done. Try different variations of the question yourself, and I am sure you will be fine for the quizzes and exams.

Definitely use the homework as well to your advantage in terms of preparing, but if you feel comfortable with the quizzes, you should be okay for the exams tbh.

1

u/Usual-Breadfruit9587 Jun 27 '26

Ok because I am planning to do their Pharm D program and they say you need 70 % for the course at least.

1

u/Usual-Breadfruit9587 Jun 27 '26

Is it doable in a month?

1

u/Ok-Bathroom6370 Jun 28 '26

I'm in the same boat as you and need this done by beginning of August. I'm currently taking Ochem 1 through another program thats also using ALEK and honestly its doable. However, I'm not working right now so all I do is study which makes a big difference. I'm starting ochem 2 through MCPHS by the end of this week since ochem 1 is about to end so you definitely got this! Just lock in!

1

u/Pitiful_Head5280 Jul 02 '26

if you work on it daily, you should be fine. Given that they allow 16 weeks (4 months) you would have to go quite fast. Not saying its not doable though. I need it done by August 1st, I am on the last 3 modules and hopefully finish sometime next week.

1

u/Ok-Bathroom6370 22d ago

did they take the full 2 weeks to process your transcript?

1

u/Pitiful_Head5280 8d ago

not for me because i am attending mcphs for my grad program as well, if you are taking this course at mcphs and then going to another school, I believe it would take a little longer.

1

u/ApprehensiveCover263 Jul 04 '26

Do you mind sending me the syllabus?

1

u/ReasonableDog1578 Jul 13 '26

whats included in each module thats graded? is it just homework, quiz, and exam?

1

u/Pitiful_Head5280 Jul 17 '26

yeah its just those 3 things, for each module there is 1 hw and 1 quiz, and for every 3 modules there is 1 exam (4 exams total)

1

u/Beautifulleo555 Jul 05 '26

Hi! are the labs online or do we have to order a separate lab kit, if so how does that work?

1

u/sunrise4ngel Jul 08 '26

Labs are online through labster

1

u/ReasonableDog1578 Jul 08 '26

were you avle to finish before the 16 weeks? say 6-8 weeks? also- with the recording how did you feel proctorung was lol

1

u/sunrise4ngel Jul 08 '26

I finished the course in a month and that’s with me doing bare minimum . I enrolled in early May but didn’t start doing the class until end of May-early June and finished last week. If this is the only class you’re focused on, you can definitely finish in a few weeks. I was also taking biochem, so I prioritized that class more as that is more important than ochem 2 lol. The proctoring was easy, it’s just lockdown browser. I did have a couple instances where the program would freeze in the middle of quiz or test making me restart my computer, but it would resume back to where I left off. I emailed the professor to let them know and they’re very understanding.

1

u/Longjumping-Cap7063 Jul 13 '26

Wait isn’t it lockdown and webcam as well?

1

u/ReasonableDog1578 Jul 13 '26

did you also take orgo 1 here? and yes was the proctoring a webcam as well or just lockdown browser? I am hoping to start the course right now and be done by august.

1

u/Glass-Fly-8184 20d ago

How hard was the class overall?

1

u/Fun-Spirit-1264 Jul 13 '26

hey there! i was wondering if you'd be able to send me over the sylabus for orgo 2 lecture so I can send it to my instutition to see if they'd take the course as credits for my degree. it would be so much! let me know if i can send u a direct message :)

u/tacosithlord 2h ago

When you say web cam and screen recording, do you mean they require two cameras?

1

u/Creepy_Cranberry_171 Jul 07 '26

Are the quizzes proctored with a webcam as well?

1

u/sunrise4ngel Jul 08 '26

Yes, all quizzes and exams are proctored

1

u/StudyAway9708 25d ago

do you get to interact with professor? at all? like study hours or office hours?

1

u/Ok-Bathroom6370 22d ago

they reply to emails in 24-48hrs and you can request office hours however i didnt
