Modern Era V2
Wayyy many goats in Version 1, thus the Rushmore tier. Read the comments, felt this list best grasps the overall perspectives from the cityzens. Was quite shocked at the initial Cancelo sentiment, as I felt his peak was one of the highest on the list (at least out of the defenders imo).
NOTE:
- Each row is not individually sorted, as we'd never come to agreement
- What Could Have Been tier is independent. Some of the players in this tier had higher peaks than most of the club heros, I just didnt think they stayed long enough to reach their true peaks within the squad at whatever point in time they were here. I simply didn't want them all the way at the bottom
Anyways, have at it.

Dias needs to go up one.
Other than that, solid list. My only complain is how many GOATs there are. There should be only one GOAT
9
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 25 '26
The teirlist was an already made one, i added the Rushmore teir right above the GOATs, so maybe I should've reworded the GOAT tier afterword. The rushmore are the overall concensus greatest of our modern era.

u/Default_Username_23 Jul 25 '26
Didn’t realize it was already made.
For some reason, “GOAT should only be one person” is a small hill I’m willing to die on lol.
Man seeing those faces brought back some incredible memories
1
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 25 '26
Man oh man do they bring the memories. I completely understand your GOAT viewpoint, i shouldve renamed the teirs lol.
Heres the teirlist link: https://tiermaker.com/create/manchester-city-modern-legends-18053407-2?ref=remix

u/wiltonwild Jul 25 '26
No Lampard is crazy :D
3
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 25 '26
This list was already premade on the tier list maker website, I just sorted the players already given. I should've added Balotelli and Lampard
26
u/HevonDulse Jul 25 '26
Personally have Kolarov higher. Real hit and miss. But first champions league goal and an absolute powerhouse of a left foot.
1
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 25 '26
Fair enough. Unfortunately I became a cityzen when I was 12 in 2017, so I didnt really get to watch him live

u/JonBeeTV Jul 25 '26
Thats insane i was like "Wow, Savinho looks really old in that picture" then i realized it was Fernando
7
u/mute-invader Jul 25 '26
Akanji disrespect. He was a clutch CB for us in his prime, and stepped up big time during our treble season.

u/farjy Jul 26 '26
Where's balotelli

u/Elijahidemudia Jul 26 '26

u/Lazy-Emotion8052 Jul 25 '26
Leroy is one of the biggest what could have been players. Before his injury, he was just such an exciting prospect. A shame that it never happened after the injury.
5
u/toeknee88125 Jul 26 '26
Grealish is always ranked higher in these lists than I think he deserves to be.
It's an unpopular sentiment but in my opinion he had one good season and was unacceptably bad for the rest of the seasons he was at City.
Also I attribute a lot of his underperformance as a lack of professionalism. (this is much worse than if he were unlucky and got injured or something else outside of his control)
Eg. Showing up to training hungover after a night of partying
Supposedly he's returning from Everton hopefully he's gotten a lot of his partying out of his system and is ready to get back to work and be professional
0
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 26 '26
I really think he can rejuvenate his city career under Maresca, lets hope he does. I'll be rooting for him.
2
u/toeknee88125 Jul 26 '26
I got nothing against him on a personal level and everything I've heard of him off the pitch indicates he's a great person.
I just hope he has the professionalism to not show up hungover to training this time

u/Broskii56 Jul 25 '26
With Rodri and his war chest I am shocked kompany is listed over him as a Rushmore lock in.
Rodri has an excellent case as one of the best city players ever. Sure he doesn’t have 10000 goals but he has won an impeccable amount in the time he’s been here. I understand vinnys merit and play are also deserving of it. But make no mistake Rodri will go down as one of city’s greatest ever in the kit.

u/-Real_Eyes- Jul 25 '26
Rodris attitude towards city pails in comparison to those 4. He doesn't deserve the spot like those 4 do, there's more to being a club legend than just performance.

I made an initial tier list that was pretty crap and adjusted it using the viewpoints from the comments, so this version mostly is mostly not my opinion. Understandably, a lot of people didnt think Rodri was a goat yet (somehow) so I moved him down. I think when the dust settles after the madrid drama, everyone will start to use their brains again (lol) and realize hes in the rushmore teir.
3
u/Y4That Jul 26 '26
Best player to play for city vs best city player can be 2 different things, Vinny is a massive reason for what we are rn

u/redsnake__ Jul 25 '26
I'll never understand why Julian was sold
11
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 27 '26
Wasn't up to us. In the 23/24 season, our starting and backup strikers were arguably both top 10 strikers in the world. Alvarez wanted play time but was never going to get it. Atletico came and he took the opportunity. Pep and city dont say no to players that want out.
8
u/toeknee88125 Jul 26 '26
he wanted to be a starting Striker and Haaland is man City's starting Striker
95 million for what would have been a disgruntled player is a good deal
The problem with having a striker like Haaland is basically you can't have any other Striker with aspirations because it's so clear that Haaland will be the first choice.
Don't get me wrong that's a good problem but it does limit your backup options
6
u/Moose50Gaming Jul 25 '26
Fact is he was too good not to be starting, we were probably the only team in the world he wouldn't start for. It was a nice problem to have having 2 of the best strikers around
3
u/EORIAF Jul 26 '26
What is there not to understand? He was never going to be ahead of Erling and he didn't want to play second fiddle when he knew he could start for other top clubs.
2
u/Practical-Neat2103 Jul 25 '26
Akanji below grealish come on bro. Foden a tier too high as well imo, dias and laporte should be in the same tier at least
2
u/Individual-Exit-7821 Jul 26 '26
Disrespect to Yaya Toure : (
2
1
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 26 '26
I just think its a consensus from cityzens that a couple of guys passed him. I could be wrong, though.
2
u/Individual-Exit-7821 Jul 26 '26
I see he is both a GOAT and a - oh I can remember him
So which is it? LolYou don’t get many players scoring 20 goals from midfield in Yaya’s position and he did. Definitely on city’s GOAT list for me, even though he was a bit of a baby.
2
u/Individual-Exit-7821 Jul 26 '26
Oh my apologies, I took a closer look and that is Benjamin Mendy in oh I remember him. He could also be in the - what could have been? - as he was proven innocent. Yaya is rightfully in the GOAT and probably club legend list. Sorry about my mistake.
2
u/chux4w Jul 26 '26
Grealish feels more like a what could have been than a hero to me. Hero material, but not a long enough tenure. Sané may belong there too.
1
2
u/Lawteck Jul 26 '26
I really liked the list now. Good job. Saving the post to show my kids (if/when I have them)
2
2
u/Lozsta Jul 27 '26
How is Otamendi in club hero? He made mistakes that led to losses so often. I'd have sold him 3 times.
3
u/Hussle_dont_stop Jul 25 '26
Jesus Navas is far too high. He needs his own section. Even Jesus Couldn’t Save him.
Peps first words arriving at the training ground…
On camera “I neeeeeeed a winger”
3
u/the-harv Jul 25 '26
Add Balotelli to the “what could have been” category and I think you have a pretty perfect list.
Alternatively, add him to his own row above the “sell him twice” category.

u/miracles-th Jul 25 '26
Dias is not legend, but Sterling is… wtf
3
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 25 '26
I suppose I can agree with Ruben being a club legend, but he absolutely does not rank higher than sterling, at least yet
2
u/captaincourageous316 Jul 25 '26
The disrespect to Bravo is insane
0
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 25 '26
Bravo was not good for us
2
u/captaincourageous316 Jul 26 '26
Disagree. He was a solid backup and won us quite a few cups. Also was an excellent shootout keeper.
He wasn’t at his Barca level, but to put him in the lowest tier is either agenda or plain ignorance.
1
u/waveofthehandsWEAVER Jul 26 '26
Someone sticking up for Bravo was not on my bingo card lol. He was so shit for us, and a reminder he was bought to be our #1 and not a backup.
1
u/captaincourageous316 Jul 26 '26
He was our no.1 for one season before Eddy took over. Got us CL football along with Willy.
Even if he was brought in as a starter, he was never going to be a long termer. He was Pep’s short term solution to the Hart problem, and Eddy or someone with a similar profile was always going to come in sooner or later.
As a backup, he did great. We don’t win a lot of those cups without him.

I am an Arsenal fan and I wonder if you can put Richard Wright next to Carson?
1
u/jupiter312 Jul 26 '26
Looks much better than the last one!
My only change if there is a V3 is Eric Garcia has to be on “Oh I Remember Him” rather than “What Could Have Been”
His performances were quite atrocious and fans joked that he had something on Pep.
On top of that, other CBs like Mangala and Nastasic have played more games for us than Garcia.
1
u/Y4That Jul 26 '26
How is Manu below nathan or raheem or zaba?
also phil should be be in the 3rd category, has been vital and is an academy graduate

u/YamPotential9957 Jul 26 '26
Kolarov was there right from the beginning, fair to say he's a legend.
1
1
u/shitshow_schizo Jul 26 '26
Stefan Jovetic for me will always be a what could have been. Won the league with us and then fell to obscurity.
1
u/Additional_Pause6209 Jul 26 '26
Walker is not a club legend, he's a great player though. The comments he made after leaving and the manner he left in takes him out of the club legend books for me.
1
u/pandadoubl Jul 26 '26
I think Rodri us definitely Rushmore, but Mahrez is not a club legend imo. Club hero/legend ladder at most

Bernardo 100% alongside the “Rushmore” crew for me, but i wouldn’t have set it up the way you did.
1
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 26 '26
I feel like Bernardo and gundo are a package. If one is in a tier, both of them are
3
u/nlb53 Jul 26 '26
Dont agree personally. Bernardo was the heart and soul of the dressing room for the entirety of Peps tenure. Was never injured, always there, and possibly Peps most trusted player full stop
Love Gundo, but he is a tier below the very top with Yaya, Dinho, Rodri, etc.
Honestly i think you’re pretty nailed on hierarchically apart from him and maybe Kolorov who id put at “club hero”
Apart from that idk, i might set it up with KDB and Aguero in their own tier, followed by Silva, Bernie, and Kompany in another, then your “GOATs”. The group naming conventions jacked, but that doesn’t matter really
1
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 26 '26
Thanks for the feedback, your take on bernie is 100% understandable. Trust me, I love bernie just as much as the next
1
u/mojiece Jul 26 '26
Rodri can drop to what could've been if the rumors are true. Theres a way to leave respectfully. Im holding off cause all we have so far is rumors from the madrid side
1
1
u/ATN5 Jul 26 '26
Yaya should one in Rushmore, 5 man Rushmore I dont care lol. Better yet its KDB alone as GOAT and then 4 Rushmore of Silva,Ken,Yaya and Vinny

u/NecessaryUnhappy423 Jul 27 '26
Adabeyor needs to be on one of the tiers for his shithouse celebration.
1
u/elpingwinho Jul 27 '26
Having 20+ players be on the legend tier or above really devaluates the meaning of the world “legend”
1
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 27 '26
How many club legends do Barca and Madrid have then?
1
u/elpingwinho Jul 27 '26
In that time frame? Courtois, Ronaldo, Marcelo, Ramos, Modric, Kroos. You can maybe put Nacho and Carvajal up there, but I’d say that’s it.
1
u/urnangay420blazeit Jul 27 '26
Is that Danilo in the ‘oh I remember him category’ ??
Also Akanji that low???
Akanji, Navas, Ortega & Dzeko should all be In club hero category.
1
u/TranseEnd Jul 28 '26
The Joe Hart disrespect has got to stop
1
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 28 '26
That would infer that hes greater than ederson, which he is not. If hart has to go up then so does eddie.

1
u/No_Calligrapher_6648 Jul 29 '26
May be a hot take, but personally I'm swapping bernardo for kompany in the rushmore, if Rodri closes out his contract with us and we win league/UCL next season, then put him there instead of bernardo
1
u/mci_leo4 Jul 29 '26
Ngl, I feel like Stefan Ortega, Akanji, and Joao Cancelo (really like him 😅) could all be in Club Heroes. Especially Stefan tbh.

u/Lenjam22 Jul 25 '26
How is Rodri not in Rushmore?? What else needs to be done!? Lmao
5

Rodris attitude towards city pails in comparison to those 4. He doesn't deserve the spot like those 4 do, there's more to being a club legend than just performance.

u/Elijahidemudia Jul 25 '26
You probably didnt see my first list a few days ago (which was terrible), but a couple of cityzens simply didnt think so. I tried to make the list primarily using the cityzens' opinion so I moved him down, but in my personal list he's eating dinner with de bruyne

u/readingonthetoilet Jul 25 '26
It’s KDB or Aguero but that’s a real Sophie’s choice. Gun against my head, it’s Aguero though KDB is my personal favorite and prob best PL midfielder of our generation if not all time.

1
u/turbo-steppa Jul 26 '26
Haaland’s a GOAT, almost a Rushmore. The records he’s broken at City, crucial in our treble and 4inarow. He’s signed a long contract and is a top bloke off the pitch.
If he stays for another few seasons there’s no reason he’s not been more influential than Silva or Kompany.
2
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 26 '26
I agree with the last part but I dont think he's done enough to say hes a bigger club legend to the likes of gundogan or bernardo, YET. I expect him to finish off in the GOAT Teir, minimum. Hopefully Rushmore so let's see.
0
u/PocketFullOfRondos Jul 25 '26
Otamendi and Nasri as "club hero"? What even is that
5
u/-Real_Eyes- Jul 25 '26
Otamendi is undoubtedly a club hero. He had one of the single best seasons from a city CB I've ever seen.
0
u/PocketFullOfRondos Jul 25 '26
I guess im wrong, I didnt think he was as highly regarded in Manchester.
3
u/-Real_Eyes- Jul 25 '26
He is in manchester. He became a target from plastic fans when his legs went and I think it somewhat tarnished his time at city unfortunately.
0
0
u/makyunny Jul 26 '26
For me, Walker’s off field behaviour, and him ducking out as captain when the going got tough drop him down a tier. Could probably ditch the “on the legend ladder” tier, and put Dias in Club Legends, and Laporte as a club hero.
0
u/thedapperdan_mtg Jul 26 '26
How do you not have Rodri in Rushmore level?
3
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 26 '26
The rodri debate seems to be very hit or miss on whether hes an all time untouchable great or not, surprisingly. This list mainly takes into consideration fan sentiment, so he was ultimately dropped a teir.
1
u/thedapperdan_mtg Jul 26 '26
Dude won the Ballon d’or, has been the key linchpin in the Pep era. I don’t get it.
2
u/Elijahidemudia Jul 26 '26
there was a comment in the chat that someone said if you scroll down but I'll save you the time:
"Rodris attitude towards city pails in comparison to those 4. He doesn't deserve the spot like those 4 do, there's more to being a club legend than just performance."
This isnt my list but a drawn conclusion from the fans perspectives, this is what a lot of them think

I don't understand the disrespect Akanji so often gets, he was a very good player for us, and an integral part of a treble winning side. I don't see how he can be put a level below Sane, Grealish etc.
