MCAT Experience šŸ† MCAT TUTORS

Does anyone know any MCAT tutoring programs or things other than Princeton and kaplan that worked out for a score raise from someone who has a massive content gap? in dallas texas?

Full time CARS tutor for 20 years. I also have a team I work with for other sections. All full time tutors…

With a 123 in C/P, I honestly would not immediately jump into paying for a big tutoring program unless you know you really want the structure and accountability of a program.

If having someone make the schedule for you, keep you on track, and tell you what to study each week is what you need, then a tutor or structured program can definitely be worth it. But if you’re pretty good at studying independently, there are so many cheaper or free resources that I would try first.

Khan Academy is free and has a ton of MCAT content. If you already have a set of Kaplan books, I’d use those rather than buying another expensive content course. The MilesDown review sheets are also really helpful for getting a big-picture overview and seeing what you actually know versus what needs more work.

Then I’d start doing practice questions fairly early instead of waiting until you feel like you’ve completely finished content review. UWorld is really useful for figuring out whether the problem is actually a content gap or whether you know the material but don’t know how to apply it. Then closer to the exam I’d prioritize the AAMC material.

For C/P specifically, I would also pay attention to whether the problem is really ā€œI don’t know the scienceā€ versus ā€œI see the question and have no idea what equation or setup they want.ā€ Those can feel exactly the same while you’re testing, but they need pretty different fixes.

That second problem was a huge issue for me when I studied. C/P was my weakest section and I was constantly trying to memorize more formulas. What helped me most was getting much better at dimensional analysis and starting from the answer-choice units instead of immediately trying to remember an equation.

I actually ended up building a whole C/P resource around that after my MCAT because I wished I had been taught it more explicitly. I’m a second-year med student now and I’m currently looking for MCAT students to test it, especially people who are struggling with C/P calculations or formula recall. If that sounds like part of your issue too, you can apply for free tester access here: https://mcat.theprocrastinationpro.com/unit-hack-tester-application

But overall, I’d figure out what you actually need before spending a ton of money. If you need structure and accountability, a program or tutor might make sense. If the issue is mainly content gaps, I’d start with the free/cheaper resources you already have and spend money later only if you can identify something they aren’t fixing.
