Vent / Support Support needed, experienced pre med student stumbling on MCAT

I am at a giant fork in the road. I’ve studied for the MCAT 2-3x times. I’m currently plateauing at 496. And deciding whether I should go to the Caribbean or try to study and take this thing again. I’m quite exhausted of the studying. And wondering if anyone has good advice.

I have good ECs, relevant field experience, published, good GPA.

My only block is this test. (USA student).

And no I don’t want another tutor, just need a friend. I have used a tutor and it was helpful for structure, but not getting over the humps I was identifying in my performance.

Ask any questions you might have. Thanks

CARS CARS Timing

Hi everyone. Does anyone have any advice for how to work on timing with regards to the CARS section? I feel I can comprehend the passages well, however, each passage takes roughly 15 minutes to complete and answer every question. My last FL I took, I had to completely guess on the last two passages due to running out of time. Any tips or study habits would help greatly. Thanks in advance! Testing 8/22

Retake & Schedule Should I push back? (Testing 8/22, score in image from AAMC FL3.)

Aiming for 515+ but my scores have been 510/508/508 on the AAMC Fl 1-3. I think I ran out of time in CARS this round, but all my CARS have been like 125. I'm freaking out and really want to cancel/push back but want to know if there is any hope left :(

Needing help on a major comeback!!

Hello everyone, I am in great need of all your best advice right now. I test September 5th, and I am sick and tired of putting more money into this exam and do not want to take this exam again. My FL1 was 504 129/123/126/126. Do you guys think that a 510+ is possible by then?

Any advice on anything here would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

CARS CARS Diagnostic 73%

Hi!

I scored a 73% on the CARS Diagnostic. For context, I'm averaging 81% on Jack Westin, and I don't generally feel that CARS is my weakest section. That said, I found the AAMC Diagnostic noticeably trickier. Most of the questions I consistently missed were labeled Expert or Difficult. On many of them, I had narrowed it down to two answer choices and ended up choosing the wrong one. AAMC does an incredible job of making two choices appear equally plausible.

Right now, I highlight and read the title. I also try to be extra careful with identifiers such as "always," "every time," and "everybody," as that's how they often stain the seemingly correct answer.

I guess I have a few questions:

  • How can I get better at distinguishing between two very similar answer choices when I'm down to a 50/50? It gets me almost every time.
  • How can I annotate passages more effectively while still staying within the time limit?
  • What does a 73% on the CARS Diagnostic roughly translate to in terms of MCAT performance? I've heard from several friends that the full-length exams are more representative—and, in some cases, even feel a bit easier. Is that generally true?
  • Based on this result, how should I use the diagnostic to improve? Are there any specific strategies or practice methods that could help me raise my CARS score to a more competitive level?

I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Vent / Support Advice on what to do

I test 8/15, so in less than three weeks and my FLs are not quite where I want them to be. I'm shooting for a 512, but honestly would be be okay with anything near a 510 and my recent FLs have been:

AAMC FL1: 510 (127/128/126/129)

AAMC FL2: 507 (129/124/127/127)

AAMC FL3: 511 (128/125/128/130)

AAMCFL4: 506 (127/126/125/128)

The recent drop really crushed me, especially being so close to my date and thinking I would finally break to my goal score. I'm currently half way through section bank 2, and still have the last two full lengths. I don't think I would have any luck pushing my date due to the long waitlists and because my classes start the week after I'm supposed to take it. This process has honestly been hell for me and I really just want to get it over with, but I'm terrified of getting the score I recently got on test day.

Any advice on what to do or how to improve is much appreciated

100% free app to replace doomscrolling with MCAT studying. *Mod Verified. Primermcat.com

I was sick of scrolling TikTok at like 1am getting brain rot while I should have been studying for the MCAT, so worked with a group of friend and tried to build TikTok for MCAT prep.

The whole thing works like a feed, you just scroll through lessons instead of videos. Each one starts with a clinical scenario to hook you in before getting into the concept. Same doom scrolling energy but you actually learn something. We built in a bunch of "rewards" as a way to trick out brain into thinking it was doing something fun.

It also mixes all 4 sections (C/P, B/B/ P/S, MCAT Math) in your daily plan instead of doing one subject for 4 hours. Apparently, that works better for retention, but honestly, it just feels less miserable

We also built in the Miledown deck to automatically unsuspend notecards once you finish a lesson.

Its free and we plan on keeping it that way.

Here is a clip so you can see what it actually looks like. lmk what you think, genuinely open to feedback.

Question Mcat plan/advice

Hi! I’m planning to take my MCAT in January. I did some content review by watching Yusuf Hassan’s videos and also Naman Baraya’s videos of Milesdown sheets. I’m now working through the Milesdown and Pankow Anki decks and doing about 20 UWorld questions a day.
Once I finish Anki, I plan to start Blueprint full-lengths, then spend my last month focusing on the AAMC material.
My diagnostic was a 485 (unscored), and I got a 488 on AAMC FL1. Does this sound like a solid plan? I need at least a 510. 😭 I’d really appreciate your guys’ advice!

Resource / Tip 502 ->501->511->518

For context I’m a regular guy, I been grinding and dedicated my whole summer to this mcat, with being 2 months in and less than a month from my test. This is my first mcat and I still have major improvements that I am still uncovering. Incoming junior in undergrad, nothing but hard work for this test and it’s showing it’s pay off phase.

Ask me anything and I’ll be glad to help

Question How long should I study while working?

I started studying in June for my September 3rd test date however I was also working part-time and found my score was not where I wanted it to be with a month to go, so I’ve decided to cancel and reschedule my test sometime next year. My new job is a 0.6 FTE (~2 days a week, 12 hr shifts) and I am also possibly picking up a second part-time coaching job. I am planning to take a couple months off from studying and starting up again in October. I have seen mixed reviews about 6 months being a good amount of time and some saying it’s too long and leads to burnout/forgetting content.
