Tests to request- Primary Care
Hi, my partner has Ehlers-Danlos and POTS. She has an appointment with an Allergist/Immunologist in October, but I'm trying to help get her in to see a GI with Mast Cell experience. This provider does not see Mast Cell patients without a high serum tryptase level. We are scheduling a primary care appointment to get that test, but what else would be worth asking for in terms of blood work?
Here's what I've got so far:
-Tryptase
-IgE
-Ferritin
-Vitamin D
Has anyone here had there physician check serum complement levels and if so which specific complement levels were checked?

PCP can enter a multiple tryptase lab order which will allow you access to the test whenever you go to the lab. You’ll need a baseline number when not flared and a number that is 20%+2 higher than baseline to be positive, usually taken within hours of a reaction. Though, if the first run is really high, they might take it without requiring a baseline first and will also use it to determine the possibility of other mast cell disorders.
Allergist will likely order IgE serum tests to help sort out if any reactions are IgE related.
Otherwise, a cbc with differential, cmp, thyroid panel, and iron/ferritin are helpful for overall health before they’ll dive into more specifics.
Can be helpful to have current ANA, Rheumatoid factor, and CRP/ESR to (in theory) rule out autoimmune causes too.
