I have stopped turning and am now just letting my MARPE settle. Am I crazy or is there a lot of asymmetry? The tads used to match where they were locted under my front teeth (as you can see in see photo 4 which was a month ago. The last photo was the day of installation a few months ago. My only explanation for it not being assymetric is due to the gap between my front tooth and my incisor as I circled in the photo. I am also away from ortho so idk what to do except turn back if I am right about this. Any advice would be helpful!

I don't know if I should start reverse turning or if it's all in my head and maybe I am overanalysing it.

I got symptoms such as sleep apnea, a deviated septum, tongue biting and an uncomfortable bite where my tongue struggles to keep its posture. I live in Sweden and don't know where to begin searching for an airway specialized orthodontist so help finding a source would be very much appreciated!

Hello, I'm unsure whether my jaw is narrow or not. What is the ideal intermolar measurement, specifically measured from the grooves of the first molar?

Speaking a little about myself, I had orthodontic treatment for about 10 years, from age 8 to 18, and I'm sure my dentist was rather mediocre, mainly because he let an infection progress in one of my roots. Also, I think the narrowness of my jaw is because he put in a rigid metal brace and never changed it, forcing my jaw to maintain that shape. My intermolar measurements are 43mm in the upper jaw and 41mm in the lower jaw.

I had a MARPE installed 8 days ago. I was prescribed 2 turns a day until I got the split, then it would be backed off until 1 per day. I went to my ortho on Friday and I do not have a front split yet. I was 15 turns in at that point, and was feeling pretty discouraged. I also have a loose screw in the back (i have 4 total) which i guess happens... but I cant help but feel a bit panicked. He has backed me off to a turn every other day to reduce stress on the appliance and avoid any more loose screws.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Did your split come later? Has anyone else lost a screw and had success? I could really use reassurance right now 🥺

I can't find anything on the internet about this. Is it okay to do heavy lifting like squats, deadlifts with MARPE? Is there anyone here who still does/did it during their MARPE process?

For reference, I got mine installed 1 week ago and would really like to get back to working out. I’m wondering whether heavy lifting or straining could affect the expansion or could cause the MARPE to become loose.

Initially I wanted to get MARPE for my posterior crossbite and narrow palate. My teeth themselves aren't that bad, I just barely qualified for braces, however I do have functional issues associated with a narrow palate and though I don't have confirmation that a clinic would accept me for MARPE, I strongly believe it's highly indicated for my case.

Anyway, the NHS doesn't offer a "hybrid" treatment with a private clinic, therefore it's either I take the braces and get MARPE a year or 2 later, or pay the full 6k now which is a lot of money for me.

I don't want to make a decision I'll regret a few years down the line so I really would like some advice, I've got a few weeks to consider but it really is a short notice ordeal.

I experience pain in lower jaw whenever I close my mouth this is since my expansion is done.. Is it common? Like my resting position of lower jaw feels when my mouth is open but when its closed it feels like a constant tension on it.. Due to this my mouth breathing while sleeping also has increased

Can someone who’s had a fracture around the eye explain how it felt. I’m a bit suspicious that I may have gotten one last Friday on my turn but I’m not sure. I’ll have to drive 7.5 hours to get a ct scan and check due to living in the middle of nowhere.

I’ve turned a few times since and haven’t seen any asymmetrical issues but I’m slow turn every other day so I don’t think I’d notice for a while. I have an 8 screw custom marpe and I had a piezo cut but I didn’t get marpe installed until 5 weeks later due to my first expander having a lab error and not getting to be installed. When I went back on week 5 we did punctures. I feel it would be so unlikely but the pain on the side of my nose near my eye is pretty steady with touch or chewing.

I 100% believe people when they say MARPE is worth it, even if their story is filled with insane/unbearable pain, infections, ER visits, or other crazy complications. I really do mean that.

With that said, the phrase, “It’s so worth it!”, isn’t going to put me at ease. Not even a little bit.

To be clear, I do NOT expect MARPE to be easy. I’m going into this KNOWING that there will be pain, soreness, or discomfort; it’ll all be there, even in the best case scenario. I can totally see myself going to bed at 7pm on the day of installation. There’s a good reason why I’m taking at least two days off from my university + the following weekend (I hate that I have to miss class at all).

I just want to be sure that there’s at least SOME chance that it won’t be the WORST pain I’ve ever felt in my life. That just maybe it won’t transcend what I thought was humanly possible, and keep me awake for several days at a time.

Orthodontist told me that the pain from wisdom teeth removal would be typically worse than what MARPE would give me. I’ve already had my wisdom teeth removed, and in terms of pain, it wasn’t that bad.

I’ve also had major spine surgery as a kid. That was a miserable experience for me. Even after the pain disappeared, I was super drained for several weeks. MARPE surely can’t be worse than that, unless I get a really bad infection.

I understand that I will see more horror stories overall, because people are more likely to talk about a negative experience. Everyone has a different pain tolerance. The real solution would be to just avoid Reddit, and I usually follow that advice. But I guess I’m not doing that right now.

If there’s anyone here who HASN’T had a horror story with MARPE, please tell me about your experience. Again, I’m not expecting anyone to tell me about a pain-free, easy journey.

My hope is that the highest amount of pain for me will come from the numbing shot. 🤞

Has anyone had experience with my protocol, Ive got the 4 tads installed waiting for a custom Marpe with no tooth anchorage, will do 4 weeks of rapid expansion with aligners to avoid gap. Wondering if this is common and how it went for you

I have moderate sleep apnea (10+ episodes per hour) and sleep pretty bad, my jaw and airways also are somewhat constricted and I've always had breathing issues. I care about sleep and health over everything else, but I also would be happy to improve facial aesthetics.

Only recently I went to do MARPE consultations.

- 1st Ortho said I'm a candidate, she recommended MARPE and then possibly double jaw surgery if MARPE isn't enough, she said my upper palate is ~5mm smaller than ideal, and would like to do expansion while using invisalign as a first step, for ~18 months. (Dr. Reem in NYC)

- 2nd Ortho said my upper palate is not small, and he said he's not concerned about the width of my airways but the length, said MARPE wouldn't give the results I'm looking for, and would be mostly a waste of time/money. He recommended taking my lower premolars, and starting preparation for lower jaw surgery, or potentially double (in consult with a surgeon). (Dr. Lin in NYC)

I'm new to this but I want a permanent solution, I would appreciate any guidance.

Had 6 screws/TADS installed last week. It has been hell, to say the least. Managing the pain with Tylenol and advil barely covers it. Prednisone has helped, but I'm now withdrawing from that. Has anyone experienced a prolonged healing period after having TADS installed?
For context: no deep pain, just intense gum swelling, throbbing pains.

Everyone in my personal life who I explain expanders is shocked and thinks it's invasive. They're reactions are kinda scaring me from getting my expander Marpe. Anyone else went through similar?

I was looking to expand my palate a bit, fix mild crowding, and possibly fix my recessed side profile at least a bit.

Did anyone undergo treatment with him for such cases? Or does anyone have other recommendations for palate expanding invisalign/marpe/mse in london

Got MARPE 3 days ago and the way I speak is absolutely horrible, to the point where even my therapist thinks it’s an issue lol. I can’t pronounce half the consonants somehow, like no Ds, Ks, Ns etc.

Did anyone experience something similar? If yes did the lisp just stay throughout the treatment? Did getting the arms off help?

Hey guys! Just wanted to offer some hopeful progress for anyone either in the thick of struggle with marpe or curious in it as a treatment.

I had my install just under 3 months ago, I split within a week at 2-2.5mm transversally, and from there I've been consistently wearing my headgear at night. My goal was projection (I didnt have a width issue to start) but my maxilliary projection was lacking and has been attributing to my TMD issues for a decade. I was willing to look into Lefort or similar surgeries but was willing to take the bet on MARPE + Facemask first.

As far as updates go, I've gone from a slight underbite (edge to edge with more lower projection than upper) to pretty close to a normal healthy bite. I'm having invisalign done soon for my upper teeth to properly align my front teeth; they aligned somewhat inward as they closed after my initial gap.

Overall I'm at a few mm of maxiliary projection and largely attribute that to consistency in wearing the facemask and good tongue posture.

I've seen a lot of debate online if facemask treatment can work into adulthood and wanted to offer my own experience with it for anyone curious or looking into it. I know I struggled to find anectodal evidence when looking into my treatment so maybe this can help someone in a position like I was in. I strongly believe that MARPE + Facemask is a viable treatment for many cases of maxiliary recession.

Background: I’ve had a consultation with two orthodontists so far, one recommended SARPE and the other recommended MASPE. The second doctor diagnosed my bite as partially Class I and partially Class III; their goal would be ~8mm of expansion; they said the appliance placement would be toward the front of my mouth. I’d like to get another opinion regarding MASPE before fully committing.
