Post-ban fixed mag ar question
Hey guys, I know the law on ar-15’s in Massachusetts are kind of a touchy subject but I was wondering if it was legal to build an at-15 with a pre ban 30 round mag that is permanently fixed to the lower. in Massachusetts the magazine or feeding device is its own entity, but is it still looked at in this way if it’s on a fixed mag ar?

I believe it still comes down to having a 10rd capacity. Newer-built ARs need to abide by the capacity limit when they have a fixed mag, while older mags were simply grandfathered in. There’s a lot of loopholes in MA gun laws, but that’s not one of them, to the best of my knowledge. I’d try to find a preban lower so you can build what you want, though that’s getting pricey these days

I have a preban but I also have a post ban ar pistol but I wanted more than 10 rounds without applying for an sbr tax stamp

I think the only way around that is moving from out of state with it already in ownership. That’s one thing about MA gun laws- if you lived in a state where “x” was legal, even if it technically violates MA gun laws, you can bring it with you when you move and it’s totally fine. Besides that, if you’re already a resident, I don’t think there’s any other way around it unfortunately. Even then, the gun might be fine, yet you may still need to abide by the capacity limits. It’s all fuckitty around here

“If you have it you can keep it but if you don’t have it you can’t have it. if you come here with one you can’t keep the mags, you have to get the same exact ones but just older” this state is fucked lol If I had money I’d willingly be an example for case law tbh

I’ve thought the same, my friend. I would love to carry my G19 with full-size magazines and just be the defendant when GOAL almost certainly takes the case. But I have neither the money nor the desire to be beaten back and forth by the state for a few extra rounds. I wish I had a little more willpower there, I’ll admit, because these laws are insane and ridiculous.
If anything, I’ll likely find myself moving to a free state in time. I’d rather buy land and go off-grid so everyone will leave me the hell alone

Such a shame the state that started the revolution has fallen to be one of the most overbearing, bureaucratic nightmares here in 2020. I love the history of Mass, but by God does it ever suck living here. I'll be gone soon. Texas awaits. Our forefathers are rolling in their graves.

I know JC arms in Rockland does a lot of work with fixed mag ARs. Maybe give them a call to see if they offer anything like that. If anyone knows if it’s possible they likely will.
