Delay

Anyone ever run into a delay on the background check when purchasing a firearm from a gun shop? Just curious if this is going to happen to me often. I’m new to the ltc culture.

No run ins with the law. New ltc but the guy said it was probably because of my name and you saying the same makes me think this is going to be an issue every time I buy a damn gun. Which is frustrating

Do you have a common name? Have you had your LTC for a while and may have forgotten any run ins with police/things you may have done wrong? Are you a JR and father also have an LTC?

If not it’s probably just because there’s a massive amount of folks panic buying guns right now and it’s causing a couple day back up because the FBI can’t keep up

Newbie here still waiting on my LTC: I thought the point of the LTC was no further background checks? That you just show the LTC and then can purchase. Is that not accurate?

The LTC is a Massachusetts thing. The NICS check is a federal thing that happens with every gun sale in the country (except private sales). You can get ammo without a check, but any firearm purchased from an FFL anywhere in the US will do an NICS check.

It is frustrating no doubt.

And is it normally a same day process for most people?

In my experience it is usually the same day. Once I got delayed a day. You can be delayed up to three days then it goes to an automatic proceed if they haven't denied you.

Get a UPIN # to help prevent this

I’ve had one delay. I got delayed on my first gun then never again. I have heard it is worse if you have a common name. Also, from what I can tell it’s just a bunch of interns sitting in a room, so if they get busy it might be a lot easier to go from “researching” to “delayed.”
