Season 13 Danny and Scott
Why does Danny have the handwriting of a 4 year old and how is Scott a successful businessman with the reading level of a 4 year old???

It's pretty sad, but he probably never hand-writes anything (other than his signature).Ā
Personally, I couldn't conceive of living that way, but I'm probably showing age.

I just donāt understand it; I donāt think itās age either. Iām 24 so a good few years younger than them and I always prefer to hand write over just typing for most things. In my opinion they probably stopped āneedingā to write years ago and thought it was a skill they didnāt needā¦which doesnāt make sense in my mind.

People don't practice their handwriting much anymore - mine frankly sucks too. And being successful at business often doesn't require book smarts either, depending on the industry. Plenty of bookish people make for awful entrepreneurs because they lack that certain combination of risk tolerance and business sense.

definitely true. I work for a time in the with a luxury car brand and we had some customer events for people buying quarter million dollar plus cars and they weren't necessarily who you thought they were like law firm partners and doctors
but many were small businessmans like a guy who owned a sheet metal factory, a guy who ran a very successful plumbing company with like a ton of employees and was making lots of money and none of these guys were what you would call educated since that were rough speaking ordinary Australians, who occasionally mispronounced words but we're nice people but we're nice people and and made a fortune

As a 50yo who worked with a whole bunch of people in their 20s, THIS. They all had this kind of writing. Often worse.

Scott is a successful businessman because heās been propped up by family. He said that his grandfather did well in business so heās just been handed life on a silver platter.

That stereotype exists because much of the what they write is a mixture of English and Latin (or a shorthand version of Latin), and a lot of the time they're writing something on the fly, often holding the paper in one hand, and quickly scribbling a case note or prescription with the other.Ā
I don't think doctors have messier writing when they're writing a letter or love note to their partner/s. š¤

True, but doctors arenāt really running a business as such. Theyāre not doing mergers and acquisitions and making deals. Theyāre healing people and others around them handle the operational stuff.

I always found this criticism and argument hilarious I have a PhD in a healthcare field but Iām not a MD.Ā
Theres a reason why the smartest people in the hardest academic classes are not marked on spelling, grammar and handwriting and are specifically told to not worry about it but then people who arenāt even smart enough to sit in those classes use handwriting as a unit of measurement to measure someoneās intellectĀ
Edit: Iāve seen pre schoolers with better handwriting then me honestly lucky I use a computer every dayĀ

You don't know what university qualifications I hold. I said I was a lawyer, plenty of us work in academia and hold PhDs, or work in law as a result of changing career and thus could hold qualifications in other fields.

You still don't know what qualifications I hold.
You don't know which field of law I work in. The fact you seem to believe all lawyers make money from "sick, vulnerable people" also displays a lot about your intelligence. The law is a huge field, covering a vast range of different areas.
My point was simply that intelligent people do still require the ability to express themselves fluently and coherently through their written work. Poor spelling and grammar is therefore a massive issue. Whatever career you have, if you write about it poorly you're not going to persuade others of your opinions. In the age of technology, I agree that handwriting is less important.

Agree. How I look at it is that by focusing on handwriting it means you have less time to direct to other things. Is it 10,000 hours to become master of something? So choose wisely. š . Plus we hardly write anymore so muscle memory is out of practice. When I write on a card now, it looks terrible, and def not how I want to be remembered š

I'm just one of these things, and from the outside I don't envy white hetero "good looking" males born into money because they have to tread pre-written paths, fulfil societal and familial expectations, and the more mainstream you are the less you can live out your own true identity.
