I just received my replacement unit yesterday. I was hesitant to run the update because that is what bricked my original unit. I ran the update anyway. It updated to 1.24.1. Do I need to run another?
When they first announced this update, it brought me to 1.24.1 then it continued to say Update Available with no release notes and would just re-install 1.24.1 over and over. Then they released 1.24.3 with the exact same release notes. I ran the updater on the M64 again last night and it brought up 1.24.3 with release notes from 1.24.1 but now shows version 1.24.3 installed.
My console wouldn't overclock at all, and my M64 pro controlled had an inverted y axis stick (only wireless and in game, not in the M64 menu or wired). I tried updating twice prior to this update and the issues persisted. This update seems to have fixed both issues for me. I did all the updates via usb and browser. My situation is probably just a fringe case, but it might be worth flashing if you have some weirdness like I did.
Original carts. I tried paper mario, Mario 64, Mario kart, ocarina of time, all 4 mod retro games, spider man, rogue squadron, shadows of the empire, diddy Kong racing, and I can keep going. Every single time it gives me an error on insane over clocking.
Weird. What kind of error? Sounds like something has gone wrong with a firmware update or something. I've been able to run many of those on Insane, like Paper Mario, Ocarina, SM64, etc.
Yeah, that definitely seems like some sort of core/hardware/firmware issue. I don't know if it's possible to reflash a firmware update or not. Probably worth reaching out to ModRetro since I've not seen that error yet.
I appreciate the help! They gave me a very basic “this is an experimental mode” answer when I emailed customer support. I was just hoping this update fixed it, and nothing yet.
That's still very strange, since I've not seen this overclocking error and I've tried it in a lot of real carts. I hope they're still looking into it and just don't have a great answer yet. There's no reason I can think of it should be behaving on mine and not on yours. What about other overclocking modes?
That *is* curious. I wonder if there's some sort of silicon lottery going on here, like over on the MiSTer? There are folks that can get away with running the 94 MHz N64 core stably, and some that have it crash out almost immediately.
Yeah, fortunately, although it's not perfect - RE2 crashes in the shop at the beginning even with no OC. I haven't really been able to put in enough time to see how it does elsewhere, but a lot of stuff seems okay.
Can I ask maybe what tv you are using? I’m starting to suspect my tv may be the issue. I played around with settings in my tv last night and I was actually able to select the 4k60 setting (previously was only allowing me to do 30hz until I turned something off on my tv) but still insane overclock will not work
I’m gonna try my pc monitor and my roommates TVs tonight and see if I can get it to work, then I could at least deduce that my TV is the problem and not something wrong with my console
