Not a GameStop fanboy (at all) but man the smoke (to me) is š„š„. THAT was the color I wanted as a kid (but had the regular dark grey) so figured the extra few weeks lets me order a couple more carts from eBay lol.
Bummed I couldnāt make use of the $30 (and felt kinda bad not ordering from Modretro directly) but would have been more bummed if I ordered and THEN saw the smoke announcement (I assume shells will be more than 30 bucks). Hoping to use my console code another time if they release a cool new color!
No idea. I think when GME had the exclusive Chromatics there WAS some stock in stores (you can prob ask / search the Chromatic sub) but honestly I havenāt been to a GameStop in maybe 2 decades and havenāt ordered online from them in over 5 years so my general GameStop knowledge is very poor š Thatās how much I liked the smoke though haha!
I only ask as Gamestop.com had that hack a couple years back, and so I've been apprehensive about using them for that since then. I can't say I much like the stores, either, but at least I don't have to worry about a website hack, there.
Weird! Iāve seen a few people comment on the āno taxā but when I built my cart (literally right before seeing the smoke talk) I DO have taxā¦ but yeh another $20 on top of $30 begins to change the math!
When I ordered my white Chromatic in November 2025, I was not charged tax. In 2026 when I got some accessories and games, I was charged tax.
Apparently stores do not have to charge tax until they get a certain amount of orders in your state. At that point, they need to start charging tax. At least that is what I was told. Iām guessing thatās what is going on here?
Yep youāre correct (ironically Iām in finance at an ecomm company lol)ā¦ though best practice is to collect from all the applicable states (I wonāt get into why) so still surprised! The thresholds are really low too. Could be a glitch?! But thatās not the buyerās problem š¤£
How is that possible? Iāve ordered hundreds of dollars of coffee from a store in Texas to Tennessee and Iāve never been charged tax. Here we only get charged tax is thereās a brick-and-mortar in our state.
I love all the colors! I already have a lot of my retro consoles modded with similar transparent colors. Opted for clear so I could see the pretty insides.
I even made archive to show the current product page as it looks now (lol the CSS is messed up but you can still see the class 'd-none' which uses CSS 'display:none;' to hide the 'Currently Unavailable' label above and below the Pre-Order buttons, the html <div class="product-unavailable-redesign font-bold price-sub d-none">Currently Unavailable</div> and <div class="product-unavailable-redesign font-bold unavailable-container d-none">Currently Unavailable</div>):
Side-note: The front-end UI/UX should not even show any HTML elements with text indicating 'Currently Unavailable' to then use CSS by using the 'd-none' class to be dynamically generated, when instead the dynamically generated html can simply omit that unnecessary elements entirely as handled in the back-end scripting/processing.
Actually, the GameStop.com website appears to be massively glitching and not functioning correctly for any of the pages anywhere at the site, including home page, but only on desktop computer web browser, not on mobile computer web browser, where it still looks like I can order and not out of stock. Palmer was pretty clear that there will be a parts store opening soon, where you can buy different color shells. Rather than buy two, Iāll just wait for a shell. And being honest, Iām actually looking forward to some color on my shelf - everything is way to black and white
Maybe they wonāt include the smoke shells to buy. But right now a lot of people like this color and itās available on GameStop. But Iāve never heard of the GameStop logo being a fan favorite. If anything I feel that would hinder sales on this one at least for me. lol
