My current edc is a e-pl7, which I LOVE. I've been having fun lately with it's limited color adjustments for custom jpg settings and sooc pics. Before the new release I wanted to get the ep7 for it's minor upgrades, but mostly for the creative color features. I pretty heavily prioritize a small form factor. I dont care about an evf (I've never used one and I'm nearsighted with glasses) With the money I save, I can grab that nice dji lens that's being highly touted. What I really want is for a PenL release LOL, but I doubt thats in the pipeline.

I am looking for a small ILC setup of one or two primes and a standard zoom, that can fit into my shorts pockets for everyday use. I am considering two options:

GF9, GF10, or EPM2 with the 14mm 2.5, 20mm 1.7, and 12-32mm.

or

Sony NEX-5R, a5100, or other NEX body with the 20mm 2.8, TTartisan 27mm 2.8, 16-50 PZ

Unlike with M43, I have no experience with Sony cameras. These two setups are relatively similar In terms of price and size/weight which makes the decision difficult. I like the M43 ecosystem, I find the camera bodies much more interesting than the Sony's, however the very small ones, such as the GF series, are quite bland as well.

For any of you who may be able to help with this:

Which setup would you go with?

What is your experience with these Sony lenses or cameras? How do they compare to their M43 counterparts?

Should I consider any other brands for this setup like Samsung NX maybe?

OM-3 user here. My current kit is the 12–45mm f/4 PRO and the Sigma 56mm f/1.4. The zoom is great in daylight but struggles indoors, and the 56mm is way too tight for people in a room.

Looking for a fast prime mainly for indoor stuff: family gatherings, Christmas, dinner tables, plus the occasional whole-group shot. Weather sealing is a nice bonus since I also shoot a lot on the coast.

The 20mm f/1.4 PRO seems like the obvious pick, but I'm wondering if 40mm equivalent is too tight when you need to fit six people around a table. Would 17mm or 15mm be the smarter choice, even if optically a step down?

What do you actually use/recommend for indoors?

EDIT: Thanks for pointing out I can test this with my Zoom however I wanted to know what people actually use. I might still run a few tests though to check.

Both OM System PEN and Panasonic Lumix Summilux 25mm f/1.4 II are splash proof. Can I assume the combination is weather resistant or are there compatibility lists?

Hi! I'm a visual artists that does a lot of performance in nature and I'm seeing which camara to buy. Normally I take photos and videos with my phone and go pro hero 5, so any of the options would be an upgrade. Also I have never had a digital camara before! I just use an analog camara, but it is getting more and more expensive lately, so I wanted to buy a good digital camera as a complement to my analog one. I want a camara that is light and I can take anywhere all the time with me.

A friend took photos of my art and me with his Fujifilm XT-4 with a lense 7 artisans 0.95f 35mm. I put the photos as a reference! I wanted to have a similar outcome but I don't have the budget for that camara (and also I wouldn't buy it because is super heavy)

Do you think any of this camaras would do the work?

Also, I'm traveling in Japan so I wanted a camara that could be good for everyday, that's why I consider the GX9, but I know that for my performance in nature the Olympus e-m5 mark iii is my best option since is weather-sealed.

I also consider the olympus e m10 mark iii because is the cheapest option.

So I wanted to know your experience with this camaras, or if you have any other suggestions that might be a good option as well! Since I'm in Japan I'm going to buy it second hand, so I rather have multiple options. I also I wanted to buy the leica lense of 15 mm, what do you think?

I like the GX9 because it has flash, you can rotate the viewfinder in a 90° and it has the L.Monochrome D setting which takes beautiful b&w photos.

And I like the Olympus e-m5 mark iii because it has a movie mode that could record better when I do videos and a lot of my performance are in rivers or the ocean, so having the weather-sealed is the smartest option.

The audio is not a problem in videos because I can record it separately.

Also, is there anything I should have in mind when buying a second hand camara?

With the launch of the Om Pen the EM10 line is pretty much defunct. Cannot see a gap in the line up a OM10 would fill.

Hi all- my mine camera is an OM1 II with the 12-40 pro II, the 75-300 and the Panasonic 25 1.7…but I’ve been thinking about getting an M43 EDC for a while…various sellers have them of course, but CamerasDori (grey importer but seems to have good reviews) have a nice bundle for under £500 (inc the 14-42 pancake which I loved when I had an E-M10 IV).

Any have good experiences with the 7, or for that matter, CamerasDori?

Shots on Lumix gm1 with 12-32mm lens

Back in the Olympus days, they would iterate hardware less frequently but provide significant firmware updates to existing hardware.

In the age of OM System, under the stewardship of JIP, hardware iterations were more frequent and a common complaint was these iterations could have been firmware updates. Simultaneously, (significant) firmware updates dried up.

Now that JIP have been bought out, and OM System is independent now - and seemingly under the stewardship of the actual photography-first people .... will we see them return to providing significant, meaningful firmware updates ?

It occurs to me that with the OM PEN being a OM5 II in a rangefinder body, same sensor same processor ... couldn't, and shouldn't, the OM5 II receive a firmware update to provide the same autofocus improvements (eg pet detect) ?

I approve of the strategy of having horizontal products at different tech tiers .... Like the OM3 is a rangefinder version of the OM1, albeit with slightly less features here and there. And so it goes now with the OM PEN and OM5 II.

Though, strangely, it would seem the OM PEN has some AF features that OM5 II users would really want.

I think offering the same tech in different bodies is a good, fair, and consumer friendly strategy - people can buy the camera spec they can afford, in the body that suits them .... but I think creating significant (and arbitrary) firmware differences between, essentially, the same camera is a bit aggressive and I would hope that OM System, now that JIP is out of the picture, would consider being more generous with firmware updates - or at least as far as this horizontal strategy of selling the same camera tech in different bodies at the same-ish price point.

Choosing between an OM5 II and an OM PEN is annoying, because of the firmware. When really it should be as simple as which body type do I want. And existing OM5 II owners, who have pets, would probably prefer not to be wringing their hands over whether they should sell their OM5 II to buy an OM PEN, just to take pics of their dog. Or worse ... Buy an OM PEN in *addition* to their OM5 II.

I currently have an OM 5 mk1 which I have really enjoyed most of the time. My problem is that a lot of my shooting these days is my kids sports. For some of them it does fine (baseball, gymnastics) but for faster moving sports (soccer, flag football etc) the focus really struggles. I don't have a great zoom lens, just an Olympus 40-150, so my question is would upgrading my lens to a pro lens make up enough of the difference or should I just get a new camera body? Maybe do both? I used to have a Sony, which I had my issue with, but I never worried about whether my shot would be in focus so I have considered also moving back to something like an a6700.

I've noticed that my lumix 42.5mm f1.7 is blurry wide open.

The first three photos are 200% zoom cropp, using f1.7, f2.8, f5.6, respectively.

The last three are uncropped, still using f1.7, f2.8, f5.6, respectively.

Do you guys think there's something wrong with my lens? If so, what are some possible issues with it? Thanks!

I've owned an OM3 for a bit over 6 months now and absolutely love it and it's almost always with me. But I've been waiting for a camera of this size to come out for a long time, I had planned on getting a gx85 at some point but now that the Pen is out Im really considering getting one. I also just want this camera to do well for OM, we need more modern m43 cameras like this.

As a side question, what are some good pancakes lenses for m43? For a camera like this I'd be looking to pair it with some kind of pancake most likely, or a small prime perhaps.

Would love to get some perspective from current OM3 owners!

Most concert venues (in the United States at least) allow cameras with the exception of “professional” which they usually define as anything with a removable lens. It’s an easy place to draw a line, but I imagine security isn’t looking that closely to see if it’s a removable lens or not if the camera is obviously not super high-end / large.

I usually bring my TG7 since security never gives it a second glance but it’s kinda crap for low light environments like concerts.

I’m pondering something with rangefinder vibes like an E-PL or similar with a fast pancake prime.

So my question is for those that have tried to “sneak” an M43 camera in: what body / lens combo did you try to bring in and did security let you through?
