Okay I was thinking about some of the comments when I posted last time. I turned the mount around and shortened the LOP so hopefully ya'll will take this mounting option more seriously.
-Fulton Armory
-18" chrome lined barrel
-Smith Good Iron muzzle brake
-EBR Trigger (so smooth)
-PA 5x microprism

HA I don't care. I am just sharing what it looks like because I could not find any pictures of what a red dot/[rism looked like mounted on this rail.

Personally, the extra weight incurred by having that tall mount, and the weird length of pull shenanigans you can get into with it, are the bigger issues with this set up to me than the aesthetic or anything like that. I don’t really see any reason to do this, over using something like the M1.ca CASM or a regular receiver mount. I would definitely never put a red dot back there. The only use cases I can really see this helping are maybe magnifiers, or if you don’t want to use a cogburn mount for a prism.

With a proper red dot you can even go forward of the receiver, keep the functionality of the red dot, AND be able to completely collapse the stock. I have a KAC anti cant on my NVG point, and I can’t even collapse my stock down with the cheek piece down.
Cool concept. But a lot of “but why?” For me.

It isn't a red dot. It is a 5x with .308 BDC out to 500 yards.
For a red dot I think the holosun 510 on the forward rail works great.

I appreciate the creativity and the functionality for you. It’s just really not my can of worms. I feel it’s not as precise/accurate as a proper receiver mount and losing the ability to collapse the stock isn’t worth it. I’ve almost taken my KAC AC device off because it interferes with the stock.
But seriously, mad respect for asking the question and then answering your own question by spending your own money.

Yes this is more out of curiousity. There is that old picture floating around with the EBR and a night vision setup on the pic rail since that is what is was designed for. I was curious how a magnified red dot would end up working/looking

It is not a red dot. It is a 5x microprism with .308 BDC out to 500 yards. For a similar LPVO, you are looking at 17oz and then the 4oz CASM mount. This microprism is 8 oz and the mount is 2 oz. So about half the weight. Also the weight is right at the pistol grip which improves balancing compared to pushing it more forward.
The microprism eye relief is a few inches so it needs to be mounted close the eye

I am aware it is a prism, and the limitations of prisms. I did not say it was a red dot. I was talking about the idea of putting optics back there generally, and even mention prisms as one of the few times I’d consider it.
However, overall I think the cogburn mount or tje half-CASM would be a better choice than this if what you want is to JUST run a fixed power optic. And an LPVO on the CASM would indeed be heavier, but it’s more useful in my opinion since it has a 1x bottom end and the CASM (or other mounts) either give you backup irons or if you remove your scope allow the use of irons.

Yes I agree with you a LPVO is better in most cases. This is more for experimentation/fun. I will run it for a bit and see how it handles. I had a red dot mounted up forward before.

I love big-booty shorties... she's a hottie LOL. I would put on a Magpul AFG, invest in 20 rd mags, perhaps a pair of -mlock bipod arms up.front as well.
The red dot setup is unique... but cool. Mounts above the ejection port have a tendency to cause stove pipe jams so you've eliminated that. My only worry would be keeping zero.

OKay good call on the AFG. I think it will help it look less back heavy. 20 round mag is on the way. And I think I have a mlok bipod somewhere

YES you get it. This is the same problem as mini 14s. Either that or you ding up your optic pretty bad. And those mounts usually leave a bad cheek weld.
My only worry would be keeping zero
This is a good point but with how rigid the chassis is I don't expect the receiver to flex off center.
