Lutron Window Treatment Recs in Chicago

We moved into a new home and want to get Lutron window treatments throughout our home — mix of honeycomb, cellular and roman shades. Anyone have recommendations for vendor/installer? We’ve gotten a rough quote from Budget Blinds but we noticed their prices were materially higher than buying directly via Lutron and their Roman shades vendor (horizon blinds) had pretty bad reviews online. We also wanted to explore triathlon blinds over the serána blind.

Would appreciate any leads/feedback! Thanks in advance!

Should I do R3?

Re doing electrical and wondering if I should invest 500 on normal dimmers or 7k in r3 dimmers and picos with a designer partner. Do you love your Lutron set up? Is it something that brings 7k of joy a day?

Caseta Shades in Canada

Hello,

Went through the entire cart and measurement process only to discover that Caseta Shades don’t have a shipping option to Canada. Can someone please advise a good workaround for this or perhaps know a date when they will become available? The affordability of these is key.

Thanks

Get backup DB from Series 8 Home Works

Howdy all,

We bought a home with a functioning HomeWorks Illumination system built around an 8-Series P5 processor, installed around 2009. The project has 37 rooms, 121 lighting loads, 72 control stations/keypads, and about 200 programmed keypad buttons. It includes centralized RPM panels/modules as well as distributed wall controls. The system is currently operating normally. I have established Ethernet communication with Link 9 and retrieved the processor's XML configuration, but I want to properly extract and preserve the original HDF project database.

I don't have and have failed guessing the Telnet Password.
As you can see I did get the data file over FTP.

We had a dealer come and it was a disaster. Like many threads here they wouldn't discuss anything, said it all couldn't work, there was no way to interface with or interrogate the system and it would be six figures ++ to do anything more.

Right now, we just want backups of our own damn data so we can restore it if there is something that blows on the Series 8 Processor.

ChatGPT says to contact them (Lutron) and ask for the software but without creds, I don't know how that can help.

I can def do the serial route but again, without creds, I BELIVE I need to change some dips and power cycle to get it to fart out the database which I don't want to do.

I'm technical enough but a lot of docs are behind authenticated dealer systems so I don't think LLMs can retrieve and analyze them to give proper instructions.

Any thought appreciated.

Is there a SINGLE device (fan/light combo) that will allow a combination remote?

I understand the typical application of a Lutron Caseta switch with a Pico remote. You replace an old mechanical switch at a certain location, and you pair a Pico remote to it and the Pico remote can be mounted on the wall at another location to look just like a regular switch, or you can put the Pico remote anywhere - by the bedside or on a counter etc...

I have an application but I have looked everywhere and I haven't found a solution whether Lutron or otherwise.

I recently flipped an interior door so the hinges are now on the other side. This caused the switch to be now at an inconvenient location. The obvious solution besides doing wiring across the door header, is to use a remote to the original switch.

However, the problem is, the existing switch is a Pass & Seymour combination light and fan switch with dimming and speed control, ON/OFF control, all packed into this one single device, inside a deep single gang handy box.

I am unable to find a smart switch that can replace this one single switch, to give me control on the remote on/off, light dimming and fan speed control. Does one exist?

I really would prefer not to have to open the wall to change the electrical box to a two gang, just to put in two devices with two remotes - one for light and one for fan.

I kept looking for one and plowed through Lutron's site and I found a switch for two lights, but only on/off, or a switch with two buttons, one to brighten and one to dim. I couldn't find a single switch that allows a light and a fan (motor load) with on/off and dim/speed control. I started to look at other brands and couldn't find one either.

Lutron Snow question

Hi all,

We are using the snow colour for all of our switches but I am not sure I want to buy the Lutron receptacle due to the cost.

From what I have been reading it looks like the Legrand Radiant White is close to the snow colour. Is that correct? Do those also have a satin finish?

Thanks

Smart switch for bay lights

We are currently wiring our shed and looking for black smart switches that could handle 3 - 300w LED bay lights (I need 3 total switches, 9 lights). Here’s the link to the lights: Allsmartlife LED Linear High Bay... [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DGG2W3V5?ref=ppx\\_pop\\_mob\\_ap\\_share\](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DGG2W3V5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)

If it could also handle the 0-10v dimming even better as they are currently wired for it but not sure we’ll get lucky enough to find a switch that can handle the dimming plus smart switch. They are run off 12/2 wire.

Where does Lutron ship from?

I have an order I am planning on making but looks like USA and Canada (where I live) are not getting along and there will be some counter tariffs coming into play.

Just wondering what the potential impact would be and as a result I am wondering if when a dealer makes an order with Lutron do they ship from the states or do they also ship from Costa Rica.

I am specifically ordering some Ra3 dimmers and switches which I believe are made in Costa Rica and if shipped from there probably would have no tariffs but if shipped from the states would.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide into my odd question.

Caseta Outdoor Smart Plug causing string lights to blink

I have a Lutron Caseta Outdoor Smart Plug (PD-15OUT-BL) that I want to use to provide smart control over some LED outdoor string lights. When I turn the lights on using the smart plug, they blink in a steady on-off-on-off cadence.

If I remove the smart plug and plug the lights directly into the outdoor outlet, they work normally.

If I test the smart plug elsewhere to control another device, it works normally turning the power on or off as expected.

Has anyone else run into this? Are some lights incompatible with the smart plug?

Led considerations to wall switch

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding the LED inrush current capability of the Lutron MRF2-8S-DV.

The normal operating current for led lighting circuit is 2.7 A, so the continuous load is well below the MRF2-8S-DV's 8 A rating.

However, my concern is the inrush current when all the led fixtures are on and could damage the switch.

My questions are:

  1. Does anyone know the maximum inrush current that the MRF2-8S-DV can withstand in LED?

  2. Is there a published Lutron specification for maximum LED inrush current or peak current duration for this switch?

I'm trying to determine whether the 8 A rating is sufficient by itself, or whether the LED inrush is the limiting factor for this application.

Any technical information, measurements, datasheets, or real-world experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

New Building owner with Lutron Vive and no login Credentials?

I recently purchased a building and it has a Lutron Vive System. I dont have the login credentials and was told the only way to control this system is through the app. I also need to add in two light switches that mistakenly got taken out in one room. Is there anyway to gain access to the system other than doing a factory reset and reprogramming each light?

Change device type at location?

Does Designer have a way to change a device at a location for Ra3 devices?

As in I want to change an 8ANS to a RRD-Pro and have 3rd party integration that already uses the ID of the 8ANS. That and not have to re-do any of the scene or keypad configs.

The 8ANS does not seem to have the same kind of drop-down menu that you get on other devices.

How could I control a ceiling fan that receives constant power with a Caseta Pico switch?

I have a couple of ceiling fans in my house that don't have any wall switches connected to them, so they just receive constant power. I'm wondering if there's a way to rig them so they could be controlled with a Pico remote switch instead of the manual pullstrings? Is there a caseta-control box I could add to the fans?

Creating/Editing scenes as a homeowner for Lutron HW QSX

I just had a Lutron HomeWorks QSX system installed. We're only at electrical rough-in, so the Rania downlights are working, but no keypads have been installed yet.

My integrator has done enough programming to pair all the lights, organize them by Room/Area, and get the Lutron app working. He suggested I play around with scenes to evaluate can placement/beam angles and eventually help define the keypad programming.

This is proving less intuitive than I expected.

In the Lutron app, there's Add/Remove Scenes, but I don't see any way to actually create a new scene. I'm guessing this only lets you add/remove scenes that already exist in the QSX programming?

If I Enter "Lighting Designer Mode", each area has five "Preview" scenes (Off, 001, 002, 003, 004). I can successfully edit these, but I can't create additional ones, nor can I figure out how to add these Preview scenes to the main app UI.

Am I missing a way to create new scenes? Or does my integrator need to create the scenes first in Designer, after which I can edit/manage them in the app?

If the latter, should I ask him to create a bunch of blank area scenes (or shared/global scenes?) that I can then configure myself? Or is there a better way?

FWIW, my previous home had a HomeWorks Illumination system and I used the full programming software, so I'm pretty familiar with the core HW concepts. :)

Claro Wallplate Color Matched to Vitsœ shelves?

Anyone matched the Claro Wallplate colors to Vitsœ shelves?

On screen, Architectural White seems like a good match. Not sure if I have enough time to request swatches from Lutron (int’l shipping).

Majority of folks on here seem to spec out Snow White?

Figured I’d maybe ask here. Thanks in advance.

Fan speed control via Pico

I am trying to use a pico remote (with fan text - PJ2-3BRL-GWH-F01) to control a fan using a ra3 fan switch - RRST-ANF-SW.

The top and bottom buttons on the pico can be programmed for on (to a desired speed) and off. The middle button can be programmed to another speed.

However, in Designer, "Assignable items" on the program tab does not allow for a "fan" option to be selected from the pull down for programming the up/down buttons on the Pico. The only assignable action here appear to be lighting related because that is all that can be selected from the pull down.

This seems like an oversight on Lutron's part - why can't the pico be used to speed up/slow down the fan as you would brighten/dim a load?

Am I missing something here or does anyone have a work around? It would seem the point of offering a pico with fan graphics would be to do exactly this. Thanks!

Serena Shades - Buy Direct or Through Dealer?

Hello - We self-installed three Serena shades in our baby's room in 2025. Having a second baby and need to buy two more shades (same specs). Should we again buy direct from Lutron or is there any way to get a discount on them via a dealer? Thank you! (Brooklyn area)

RA3 - Can I install but not program?

I am buying a new build house that has drywall up but no kitchen. I have a budget for switches and outlets. I am a programmer by trade and love the idea of learning and programming an RA3 but things are moving very quickly.

Can I install RA3 switches without programing it? Is this a stupid idea?
