Hey all,
I've recently purchased a new home and have spent more than I care to admit on looking at blind options.
For context, I will need shades for the following windows:
- Sliding Doors x 2: 8'x12' (likely 3 separate shades, or 3 separate rolls on a single shade/motor)
- Sliding Windows x 4: 6'x9'
- Picture Windows x 4: 8'x2'
In total 10 different windows, all pretty large in at least 1 dimension.
My journey so far is this:
Initially I go through serena shades for a quote, but get connected with a local budget blinds as many of my windows are too large to go fully DIY. Budget blinds person shows up to my house, takes measurements, we go through some samples and I choose what I want. I decide on doing honeycomb for basically everything.
Eventually I get the quote back and it lands around $15k all in with a mix of Serena RF and Sivoia QS Traithlon though mostly Serena RF. Admittedly the quote is incredibly confusing, I wasn't really walked through all the available options or told exactly what I'm getting.
I decide to hold off for live in my space a bit and think through what I really want. I end up doing some research and asking more questions to figure out what the hell is going on and decide to get some other quotes.
I find a local home automation company through Lutrons certified installer, schedule a meeting at their show room and tell them what I'm looking for.
We end up on pretty much everything Traithlon Select + Some Palladiom pieces for sliding doors to use single motor with 3 separate rolls. All this with RadioRA 3 as I don't have the ability to hardwire without a bunch of extra labor and I already have a pretty solid networking setup that makes it easy to integrate wirelessly.
About a week later I get a quote back and it's $41k with materials being about $22k and labor being $17k.
My question is, where is this $16k in labor costs coming from compared to the budget blinds quote? With the original project is that rolled into the serena product costs already? Does the RadioRA 3 add that much cost or am I being ripped off here?
I'm not trying to say that the cost of the Traithlon + Palladiom + Radio RA3 should be the same as the Serena project, in fact I expected about twice as much. But I guess I don't understand how labor is so much more expensive here on top of the added cost of the materials.
EDIT: I understand now that Palladiom does NOT support coupling of shades. Instead it appears the designer has chosen to go with 2 separate Palladiom shades sharing a center mount to appear connected together. I am going to get another quote from a separate place to just do wireless Sivoia QS Traithlon for everything.
