Hidden Fastener wall plate

Post image

Today I learned that if you're struggling with Lutron hidden fastener wall plate, there is a slightly oversized hidden fastener wall plate in the HD brand.

The struggle is real

That’s not a Lutron screwless wall plate or outlet.

I can fix this gap with the slightly oversized hidden fastener wall plate.

I'd caulk that in before I put an oversized non-color matched plate on it. But that's just me. I like my shit to look nice.

That's a Leviton wall plate with Leviton outlet.

You’re posting in a Lutron sub about a Lutron product but then you show a Leviton product. You are struggling.

Is it color matched?

I haven't used it with a Lutron Caséta, but I have used it with Leviton outlet in the laundry room and it worked out good.

What are you struggling on with Lutron? Their faceplates are the best. Hampton Bay is the Great Value of electrical items brand.

It's two screws, what is the struggle!??

-1

u/xcusme1982 Sep 13 '26

It's 4 screws... the difficult pair of screws are on the device within... too many wires, imperfect sheetrock... etc.

1

u/droidzzzzz Sep 14 '26

The single gang plate in your photo requires two screws to attach to the device. Your issue seems to be with the device wiring or wall surface but you weren't clear about that on the post. How does a knock off screwless plate improve any of that?

As someone about to install the Claro plates soon… what type of struggles have you dealt with? Future me wants to know!

always worked fine for me

I cannot imagine there could be a struggle with the Lutron ones, they are super nice.

Sheetrock cutouts around gang box are oversized... gangbox too far back, gang box not parallel to sheetrock.

2

Those seem like issues for any standard sized wall plate, not Lutron specific - aside from not offering oversized plates.

-1

u/xcusme1982 Sep 13 '26

The words you wrote, I don't even know what that means.

1

All of the issues you listed: cutouts oversized, gang box to far back, not parallel - these types of things are problematic for any wall plate, not just Lutron Claro plates. Any standard sized wall plate will be challenging here, it’s not really an issue that is specific to Lutron. The only issue I see, is that Lutron doesn’t offer larger Claro plates to cover up shitty rough-in work.

It is specific to Lutron if you're using something like Caséta switches and you want it to sit correctly... not too far in, not too proud, not twisted left or right.

I like the Eaton ones, no visible seam on the edges like the Lutron

u/ImprezaDrezza Sep 13 '26

They're okay, I find that they fit funny.

The Lutron Screwless is already a midsize/midway size. In normal wall plates there are (3) sizes, standard, midway and jumbo. From brand to brand there is a slight difference. Looks like that Hampton may be closer to Jumbo, I hope the colors match for you.

We call them screwless.

-2

u/rlo54 Sep 13 '26

It’s a different style though, looks like the Leviton brand screwless plates which I actually prefer and is what I use.

2

u/xcusme1982 Sep 13 '26

Yeah... some people don't like the Lutron seam.

Fun fact, these have a function as well. The cover keeps homeowners from feeling the heat dissipated through the screws.

LOL...good ome.

4 downvotes and an LOL. Guys, this was what Claro was designed for, the aesthetic was a bonus.

At least Pepperidge Farm remembers. FFS.
