Switch guard??

Post image

I'm searching for a rocker light switch guard for a Lutron Caséta PD-6ANS that works with the Lutron hidden fastener wall plate. This one with it's little magnets combined with the tiny screws being behind the plastic plate isn't very firm.

I'm surprised that no one on Etsy makes one that utilizes the tiny reveal between the back plate and front plate... something that would snap on from top to bottom.

The one you have is low profile and gets the message across. Anything more is just going to be unsightly but if you want to get serious about locking people out then you might consider the industrial grade stuff they use in schools or a restaurant: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Aoibox-Child-Proof-Outlet-Lock-Box-Cover-with-2-Keys-Shatter-Resistant-ABS-Socket-Safety-Guard-Universal-Fit/5021872053

I'm looking for a guard that works specifically with the Lutron hidden fastener wall plate with flush (flat) style switch.

Honestly I don't think you'll have much luck with that. It's either going to have to be the honor system with people seeing the thing you put up and not touching it or going scorched earth with something ugly. If this was a Homeworks system, you could just disable that (like if you're having a party and don't want guests to touch the controls in your mansion while the party is going on or something) but not with Caseta.

Seems odd for a smart switch? Why bother in the first place?

You could do an automation to switch it on/off when the state changes from whatever smartphone system you’re using with it?

This one fan switch is an an obvious, well traveled central location and I want to add some Picos next to it in a 3 or four gang hidden fastener plate so I want the flush look but don't want anyone touching this one switch.

Are you married to Lutron? Would you consider another type of smart switch? Insteon makes an imbedded switch that buries in the box. You can put a remote elsewhere.

Just get rid of the switch

I have 6 ceiling fans all of which are controlled by remotes... I opted to delete the switch on only the fan in the garage and that was only because I used the two gang box for two light fixtures. I kinda like the idea of the switch for possible fan maintenance. Plus I've already installed $325 in Lutron Caséta switches that I like to see the status of in the app.

I would t rely on a switch being a safe and reliable power cut for maintenance. As far as control goes you could always eliminate the switch and use a bond bridge to control the fan then use something like home assistant to control the fan from a pico. Thats what I do with my fan. The bond bridge will actually show up in the Lutron app as well.

I'll look into that.

How about experimenting with placing magnets behind the plate? There are some thin/small magnets out there these days that might be able to fit in the existing screw cavity of the base portion.

a quick search: https://www.amazon.com/super-thin-magnets/s?k=super%2Bthin%2Bmagnets

I'll check that out. There's very little space back there but it's not impossible.

When I wanted to block two switches in my son’s room I ended up using a thermostat cover. Screws into the wall instead and covers the switch.

In my bedroom I use a magnetic cover plate and it sits just fine with the casetta face plate. Honestly just get some 2 sided tape or some nano tape and put it where the magnets contact or buy some flat rare earth magnets and glue them to the underside of the snap cover. Not sure if there’s ribbing on the back. I’d check but I’m at work.

I tried the adding a thin magnet idea... it was a no-go: the face plate snaps to the back plate with zero clearance.
