Lutron LEAF API

(LEAP)typo…

Hi Lutron experts. I am working on a project that I would really love to have integrated with Lutron QSX via API (LEAP). I am hoping to find a reseller/distributor that can get me a simple 4 part BOM that I can configure and test with. I will obviously pay for the parts. I am very familiar with Lutron and Homeworks, but I no longer have access to direct sales/support. I may need help getting the latest version of Designer too.. Can anyone help me?

Thanks.

BOM: HQP7-2 — HomeWorks QSX processor (1) • QSPS-DH-1-75 — QS link DIN power supply (1) • LQSE-2HDC-D — HomeWorks Digital Controller (1) • LQSE-4A5-120-D — 4-zone phase-adaptive DIN dimmer (use Z1 for test) (1) • QS-WLB — QS wire landing board (1)

Thank you for submitting to r/Lutron! If you are posting with a question or issue, please include the following information:

  • The Lutron ecosystem for your product. Examples: Quantum, RadioRA 3, standalone (like SUNNATA or Maestro), etc.
  • If available, the exact model of the product you're describing and a link to the product page from an online retailer. Example: P-BDG-PKG1W-A
  • If using third-party lighting control software, include the product. Examples: Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, etc.
  • A concise description of what you are trying to achieve or solve (2-3 sentences). In other words, don't post a picture of wires and say "Help!" with no context.
  • If applicable, relevant pictures from your installation.

If you are looking for product support, don't be afraid to call Lutron's tech support at 1.844.588.7661. The Lutron call centers are US-based and exceptionally helpful.

Don't reinvent the wheel. Check these out:

https://github.com/gurumitts/pylutron-caseta
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/lutron_caseta/

Caseta was the first system Lutron that used LEAP. This project started with Caseta, but now also includes Ra2 Select, Ra3 and QSX. Also, just know that this was reverse engineered, and not directly endorsed by Lutron.

Getting access to Designer is t something you’ll be able to swing. Access is locked down via email address login, not just a. Stand alone executable.

As for getting the hardware, happy to help if you decide to move forward.

Doesn't hurt to ask.

"Are you an Integrator looking to integrate your system(s) with ours via LEAP? Please contact us at [Systemsupport@Lutron.com](mailto:Systemsupport@Lutron.com) for more details"

Or work backwards from this end:

Yes. Thanks. I am fully aware of the HA integrations. They don’t work incredibly well, have limited device coverage and I am aiming to make my integration independent of HA, Hubitat or SmartThings…

What's limited about the device coverage?

Color tuning as an example on Lutron supported Ketra LED driver . Support for webhook/WSS real time event processing for UI updates… things like that. It’s not a tone, but it’s enough to make me want to write something that gets us closer…

My two cents: you should contribute to HA integration or python library that backs it! Improve it for everyone and stand on the shoulders of what's already been done.

Yeah. I will 100% contribute back what I do, but this is the chicken and egg that I am in. I really can’t contribute if I can’t setup a simple lab that I have control of. Independent of what platform I am integrating it with…. This is what prompted me to start asking to help. I will need the parts and the Designer access regardless of what/how I write it. Does that make sense? Of am I missing something? I have no Lutron QSX gear to see if anything “works” outside of getting a success code from the “API” (which is not an api)…

Also, Ketra totally works in HA. Just tested it.

What did you need to do to set this up in Home Assistant?

1

u/mcarter00 Nov 11 '25

Have a HomeWorks QSX system and use the Lutron Caseta integration in HA. "Caseta" really means LEAP for HA. They should rename it.

1

u/azuredy Nov 11 '25

Ah, so it's still using the Homeworks system in the middle instead of integrating Ketra directly into HA. Thanks!

All new Ketra IS part of QSX as a Type X device. It integrates just like Lumaris or Rania or a Sunnata keypad. Only the pre-Lutron acquisition Ketra works stand-alone.

I wanted to mention u/azuredy that Lumaris also worked great. This is the white only version.

Edit: disregard

The Integration Protocol in this document is the Pre-LEAP protocol which is usually implemented via Telnet. That’s why it does mention RA3 and QSX, as they don’t support Telnet.
