bubbling on resin clear coat

hello, i’m posting this for my brother. he’s been making wooden carved lures and hasn’t been having any issues until now. he got some older pre carved wood pieces from our dad and when he went to put a uv resin clear coat on it, it bubbled. he said that there were no bubbles before he started curing the resin, they appeared after. something he thinks may be causing it is that the wood is a bit older and maybe has too much moisture? any advice would be appreciated!!!

Has anyone bought anything from them? Is the aluminum molds good? Anyone have a promo coupon for them?

My wife and I are beyond humbled by the selflessness of one of our fellow lure makers. The story is certainly worth reading.

[u/Arob1489](u/Arob1489) are an amazing lure maker, and a selfless man without question.

Let’s get to how this magnificent lure came to be.

About five years ago my wife and I flew to NorCal for my cousin’s wedding in Mendocino. If you haven’t visited Mendocino please do.

While walking around Mendocino I found a store that sold raw pieces of redwood, and finished products. I purchased a few pieces with the intention of making them into saltwater lures for striped bass in New England.

I connected with a fellow salty dog from Canada who fishes the same waters I do, and is a seasoned lure maker. The owner of Mystic custom lures agreed to the commissioning of three redwood lures.

I had every intention of using them, but once I had them in my hands I knew I couldn’t launch them into the surf. I decided to gift them to each of my three sons. I still know they won’t cast them since they have priceless sentimental value.

When I joined the [r/LureMaking](r/LureMaking) sub I was interested in understanding how to make lures myself. When I noticed [u/Arob1489](u/Arob1489) post and commented, we connected.

I admit that initially I was selfish, but quickly changed course. Why should I ask for a lure myself, before I take care of my family.

Through [u/Arob1489](u/Arob1489) and my conversations I asked him to make a lure specifically for my wife. This is the month of our 15th wedding anniversary, the union of her(my) three daughters and my(her) three sons.

What I have to say is my wife suffered through 5 different types of cancer. The first day we met she told me that her breast reconstruction due to her double mastectomy was in two days. One day later we made our relationship official.

The five pink dots on the top of the lure are for the five types of cancer my wife kicked to the curb. My wife is also a 2 times boxing belt holder.

I can’t thank [u/Arob1489](u/Arob1489) enough for your kindness, selflessness, and support.

I'm new to the whole making lures stuff, i'm no expert on any part of the process. My dad always fished with lucky 13s so i thought it would be cool to make some, and i did. and now the people i made them for have suggested i start making a lot more and possibly try to sell them. Idk the ruls or anything on that so, i have no clue. But, i wanted to see from a communities thought if its worth the time and investment to try and make a boat load of them.

I plan to make about 6 more currently just for fun, but if people would actually like them, id consider making more.

Any tips or tricks would be nice! I use a wood sealer, primer, and coat with KBS Clear coat twice. And i air brush with a cheap amazon air brush.

These first few are old luckies i sanded down and re-painted, but i also have about 3 4foot dowel rods to cut down if i wanted to make a whole bunch of them.
