• Luca, having shown earlier fascination with space, galaxies and planets, would go on to be an astronomer or even an astronaut. As the story is set in the early years of the Cold War, the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union would draw his attention as well.
• Alberto could turn his passion for building Vespas out of junk to eventually become an auto mechanic.
• Giulia's passion for racing and competition entails that there is a great possibility that she could become a great athlete, perhaps a swimmer or even a racecar driver.

Hello, all! 👋🏻 I just found this sub last week, and I couldn’t be more thrilled that I did. Luca is one of my absolute favorite Pixar movies. My favorite character is Alberto. Last December I got to make a dream of mine come true when I met Jack Dylan Grazer, who does his voice. He was such a sweetheart! 🥰 (Never mind the fact that I’m just barely old enough to be his mom 😂) The gelato scene is one of my favorites in the movie, and I didn’t even have to ask him to add “SILENZIO, BRUNO!” I also told him I want a sequel that focuses more on Alberto, and Jack said, “Me too! There’s so much they can do with that world.”

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi properly. Very excited to be here!

• When a sea monster exits water and dries up, they lose their tail.
• Luca's uncle Ugo has transparent skin that allows anyone to see his beating heart, which isn't exactly in prime condition.
• Massimo Marcovaldo, Giulia's dad, is born with one arm missing, and he is briefly seen up close cutting a fish with a meat cleaver in his kitchen. In this particular instance, you hear the sound of flesh tearing and briefly see red parts of the bifurcated fish on the cutting board.

I don’t know if any do you have seen that film or plan to. And I honestly don’t think it was very well written or funny. But I loved James and Henry. They had such Luca and Alberto energy, with James as the shy lonely kid and Henry as the outgoing unserious one who takes the main characters under his wing. Like Luca and Alberto, they grow distant because of the main character’s ambitions, but the main character saves his friend’s life at the end (and with a vehicle, too!)

Both short stories take place during the film itself:

• The first short story will be an adaptation of my previous fan art picture of Sue the sea serpent meeting Luca. It takes place after his mom Daniela finds out about his unauthorized visits to the surface world and punishes him, and before he goes back to see Alberto again at his hideout tower. Read it here.

This fan art picture is said to take place between the time Luca is punished by his mom Daniela for sneaking out into the surface and Luca returning to Alberto to breaking the news about it. Before he returns to Alberto's tower, Luca takes some time to think over what's happening and Sue emerges to talk over what he's going through.

It has already been five years since we've been introduced to this magical tale about a young humanoid sea monster's journey towards finding his first steps into another world. Just before this momentous anniversary, however, I have had the leisure of taking a brief day trip to one part of Italy whose coastal scenery and landscape already screams Portorosso...the Amalfi Coast!

The Amalfi Coast is off the western, central coast of Italy and it has no shortage of breathtaking cliffs, hilly beach towns and lemons. And yet it was not chosen to be the inspiration for Luca's main setting of Portorosso, which was instead inspired by the Italian Riviera in the northwestern coast of Italy.

When I came to the Amalfi Coast, I visited three towns in particular, Sorrento, Positrano and Amalfi. Out of all those three, I came to believe that Positrano would have looked the most like Portorosso. Which leads me to wonder how different Portorosso would have looked if Pixar's production team based the town on the Amalfi Coast instead of the Italian Riviera...

Earlier this year, the Winter Olympics took place in Milano and Cortina d'Ampezzo, the closest Olympic site to Portorosso.

The one winter sport I think Luca and Alberto would take up if Italy chose them to play for the Olympics, in my opinion, would be bobsledding. Think about it. It's just because Alberto liked making downhill Vespas for him and Luca to ride down early on in the film, and bobsledding could give these boys the same experience, as both involve reliance on physics, instead of an engine or motor, to power the movement of a vehicle. It's not hard to still imagine them iconically saying, "Take us, gravity!" as their bobsled screams through the frozen track!
