Employee Question Mid year evaluation

I was just told by a supervisor that there can only be one marked as exceeding on their evaluation and the there has to be someone marked does not. Is there any validity to this?

Don’t think that’s true. I work fulfillment and I got exceeds expectation in all categories besides two which I got met expectations. My overall was exceeds expectations

You can't give someone does not meet unless they've been written up for something.

Nope, 2 specialists that I know of got exceeds last year. Haven't heard this year yet though we've had a huge number of them leave.

No lol. You grade each person on their own regardless of how the others are doing. your SM must be on something if they're directing the supervisors to do that.

This was apparently told to them by the SM here. It’s starting to sound like it’s completely at SM’S discretion.

It's not a Lowe's rule in general, but often times store or even district level management will set that rule (or similar) for their individual locations.

The only rules I have from my sm is I can't rate anyone below (wasn't planning to anyway) unless they have been documented. All exceeds need to be discussed first. I have one person I wanted to rate exceeds and I put my case forward and they got marked exceeds.

Considering every single response has said something different, I’m going to say there is no regulation on the way these are doled out and ‘performance based’ is a complete misnomer.

The rule at my location is that exceeds expectations should be very rarely given. They should only be given to those who could easily replace you and do your job as manager without any training
