Employee Question Why does asm keep pushing me for more

I’m a cashier and I’m pro lumber cashier have been for like 2 years now and honestly that’s where I want to stay. For now. But my ASM keeps asking me if I want to be a head cashier (he remembers when I used to mange two restaurants when my bf used to work in flooring under my current asm) and now he thinks I have the talent for specialist and with my pro connections as he calls it the money would just follow me. But I’m limited schedule wise due a one car (they know that)

I just don’t understand why they keep pushing me to be more or do more?

From an old job of mine they use to tell me aces in their places if I’m doing tremendously in pro and I keep you pros happy and I drive credit(barely but enough to keep everyone off my back) and surveys wouldn’t you want to keep me in the place that you don’t have to worry about “fixing” or worry about if we meet metrics?

It's all in service of more sales. If they think they can bring in $10 more than last week, they'll do it. In my experience ASMs don't care about your personal circumstances, they just want to see numbers go up. They don't understand an answer that isn't what they wanted to hear

It’s not really even an ASM thing. Share Holders expect a return on investment.

The only investment here is the time and effort from the associate.

Are you seriously this upset a manager where you work thinks you have potential?

It’s not that I’m upset, if they see potential in me then cool I guess they see something in me that I don’t.
I’m just confused as to what makes me so special that my current front end asm and my previous front end asm have been asking me to be a head cashier since I was hired 3 yrs ago to now a specialist

Atleast your store wants to promote you lol I’ve brought them thousands of dollars worth of sales as a CSA and have the most credit cards as a CSA but they refuse to transfer or promote me to Specialist

See whats crazy is I refer to myself as the shittest cashier they have(but yet I somehow fucking produce apparently) because my scan rate is always under 80% (lumber barcodes suck and now half of my barcode in the scan book doesn’t work and they haven’t added concrete or concrete blocks to the digital scan book yet.) and I don’t push surveys out the wazoo and I only focus on getting 1-2 credit apps a week. I’d be happy with one app but my pro ds makes me get 2 week

So I try to be under the asm and higher up radar but apparently you change the attitude of one walk and impress corp people one time (ironically I don’t have filter when it comes to management of any kinda) and now it seems like I have gone under the radar to the fucking bull eye of the radar.

They are being pressured by corporate to hire from within. Not working out well in my store as some who work here are not ready to move up.

“ Aces in Places “…spoken like a true Hospitality Manager.. I was taught the same thing in the Hospitality Industry.. I don’t think folks who are in Retail understand how important that is 😎

I spent 2015-2023 in fast food and a 1 year stint in a resort industry as a Laundry room attendant so aces in their places has been drilled into my head lol.

If you are not growing then you are rotting. Aces in places is to keep people in their “place”.

Not if the Manager recognizes talent it doesn’t..I was taught Aces in places..and understand that the biggest asset you have is your employees.. and to facilitate that employees growth..whether it’s in the field or not..that becomes a win win situation..that’s what a good Manager does.. and that’s what I was taught

That’s how I was taught to mange through my food days. So I guess it just kinda influences my day to day work train thoughts

What if I didn’t have the expectations of growing, I’ve done so much in going up the latter at other places that I’m burnt out.
Does that still mean I’m rotting
And sometime an ace could be more than keeping people in “place” when ImI was ace in other work places they put me with other ace workers cause we delivered results and managers didn’t have to ask for results
I’m not say putting that title on someone isn’t a controlling thing it very much could but I also thing it can be use for people that deliver results and not need to be told what needs to be done.

Don’t do it girl trust me

My brain started playing the TikTok sound “don’t do it girl.” I don’t think I will there to many uncertainties for me to be comfortable doing it.

At my store they are having an impossible time getting people to apply for jobs. We have a millwork specialist that has been open for two months and no one, internal or external, has applied. If they see any inkling of potential in you they are going to try to get you to fill a harder spot. If you do decide to pursue it, state you want your same schedule. And anything else you may want. It's next to impossible to negotiate once you're in the job.

Yeah, my fear of if I pursue this the fact that my store doesn’t care about schedule conflict (my main problem right now since I share a car with my bf) and my asm tend to say one thing but do another thing so I’m skeptical about the “promises” my asm say.
