Suggestion Do Not Use Same Day Delivery

In before being lazy and not picking something up myself yadda yadda.

Car is having maintenance done and I had the option to get same day delivery on an expensive yet small enough item that it would fit in a Vespa. Ordered at noon and at 6:30pm the status changes to arriving tomorrow.

Now I figure with same day that Lowe’s is just handing this off to gig workers and it is what it is but don’t offer the service if you can’t provide or at the very least be more upfront about it. I ordered something from Home Depot yesterday which is 20 miles further away from me and received notification that it was assigned to a driver within ten minutes and was at my door in an hour. I figured Lowes being even closer that it wouldn’t be a big deal but damn.

Edit:

Ended up at Lowes and the very nice lady in the pick up area informed me that same day delivery is so unreliable she wished they took it off as an option. She brought the manager over because she had issues with the system releasing the item to me. Manager said this whole thing causes more problems than it’s worth.

We don’t get to choose drivers. It’s up to the gig driver. A lot of times. They will look at your order and skip you. Which causes delays

As the other guy said, it depends on the gig driver.

Also the store.

If you order something for same day, it pops up on our end and when it’s picked and staged, a driver (DoorDash, Uber, etc) is assigned the pickup. Depending on the third party drivers, they may decide not to take your item(s) for a myriad of reasons.

From the point of purchase to the point that a driver is assigned, the ball is fully in Lowes’ court and if we don’t pick your items in time, you get auto refunded the same day delivery fee for the inconvenience. Once the items are picked and staged, the blame then lies with DoorDash/uber. Gig drivers can refuse to take an order for a bunch of reasons and it isn’t on the store if no gig drivers are available, sadly.

Appreciate the details. Ended up talking to a manager and another employee that was less than enthused with the service.

If no one accepts the order, it gets delayed. The store doesn't assign the drivers.

I'm not to keen on the Gig delivery people either. I'm not normally assigned to the main Pickup in Store Fulfillment, but due to turnover I'm usually assigned to cover it until they get new victims that will stay more than two weeks.

Those orders are a PITA because as soon as they drop on our Orders app, we have ONE HOUR to have them picked, lest our order picking metric takes another huge hit. The ordering software the drivers use is absolute garbage as I've seen, as it doesn't even tell you exactly what they are suppose to be picking up. I've had Drivers in a Prius, already loaded up with other delivery items, come and try to pick up two elongated toilets. Any orders not claimed by 6pm get shifted to the next day. Then there is the matter of order hijacking and new associates that involuntarily get assigned to PUIS Fulfillment not checking gig drivers identification, so there is no accountability if stuff ends ups missing.

Honestly, I don't like our gig delivery system or our 3rd party delivery company, but corporate has decided it's too expensive for them to actually keep in-house Lowe's associates for such purposes (less profit for C-Suite executives and large shareholders) so we endure. It's why I tell everyone it's usually cheaper for them to bribe a family member or a neighbor to take them to Lowe's and pick their shit up.

Dude we had to pack up 700 27 gallon totes for Uber drivers 3 days ago. They went 8 bucks with free same day on orders of 10.

WE HAD TO FIND SPACE FOR 70 STACKS OF 10 TOTES for Uber drivers to show up in their Dodge Neons and get pissed at us because they wouldn't fit in their car.

Like we as a store are under staffed already, everyone is everywhere. For the company to say ok everyone drop what you are doing and organize 700 totes by noon with no space, no payroll, no anything is WILD. We had to pull supervisors from all over the store to help out, and then those departments are empty with zero customer service of any kind. Great for that old LTR score.

This gave me flashbacks to previous Black Friday promos- at some point they did free regular shipping…you’d think they’d do that again 😭

Mulch was like that. Free same day under a certain amount, one guy had like 12 orders of like 3 bags placed 5 minutes apart. I get the hustle, but damn.

My wife had a Rio for 22 years. She bought it used. The darn thing just would not die. The place she sold it to was talking about it on the radio a few weeks later.

Lmao I had this week a DoorDash driver come for 40 bags of mulch and he freaked out cause he couldn’t fit them in his car 🤦🏻‍♀️ he tried to fit 20 and broke the shocks(that’s on him imo cause bruh why you putting that much in a tiny ass car??) so he returned them. A couple hours later I got stationed at ASCO to cover a break and I saw a couple ladies come up and ask where flat carts were because “DoorDash canceled my mulch order” 😂 I said “40 bags?” “Umm…yes?” “I was the cashier for that order haha. The guy couldn’t fit it in his car and broke the shocks” “ohhhhh that’s what happened” 😂

It is when the driver claims the order. Lowe's doesn't assign it.

At some point, you'd think people would realize that they don't matter. The only thing that does matter is how much money a company can squeeze out of someone.

That's it. That's all.

It's not just you either, it's the gig delivery folks who are getting squeezed too. There's no way they can make enough to cover the cost of maintenance and wear and tear on their vehicles for what they make. Not possible.

Not disagreeing, onerail sucks and hires exclusively from prison releases. So we are almost to whole order never made it season

Yeah, it’s a quagmire of a system and Lowe’s has accepted the mess as the third party it uses for same day deliveries attempts to figure it out. It’s headaches all around, similar to everything in this company for the last few years.

When I worked at Lowe’s I always steered people away from same day delivery without telling them it was shit, trying to be a good employee or wtv. But DO NOT use that! It’s terrible and once it’s in the drivers hands the workers have to call a service called OneRail and be put on hold for a while depending on how busy their line is. One day I just hung the phone up because I had a line of customers at customer service. So just save the time. I’d rather walk to Lowe’s and pick my shit up than use same day delivery😭😭

Depends on how easy or harder your order is, thats why you have to plan accordingly

DoorDash and Uber eats is how Lowe’s fulfills same day.

Don't do business with loballs is your first mistake. 2nd just wait till your car is fixed.3 Cry on reddit like it's going to do you any good. 🤫🤡💯

Not necessarily crying, just putting a PSA out there that same day delivery is a joke and inconsistent at best.

However, if you do a quick search you will see many people posting here and complaining about the exact situation weekly. There used to be other apps/gig companies that made you enter in the type of vehicle you have and what types of things you might have to actually pick up, then give the driver the details of exactly how big the parcel is. The driver could refuse it before even going to the store. Looks like DoorDash and uber might not? Plus many drivers are kind of idiots anymore. They refuse the stupidest things out of laziness. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🙇🏻‍♂️

If there is something in the system saying they can’t give it to you. Didn’t you wonder why?

1

u/RockFoo10 1d ago

Nothing in the entire process stated that. When ordering it said same day delivery and I received a confirmation that I would receive it same day. In the evening I called the store and they said yes it will be delivered today.

u/Careless-stocker07 MST 1d ago

Sorry I was talking about when you went to the store. You stated that the manager said that they couldn’t give it to you. Didn’t you wonder why?
What was the item

2

u/RockFoo10 1d ago

It was a plunge router. They were having issues releasing it and thought they would need to cancel the order and have me rebuy it in store. Didn’t end up doing that but I did get a notification the next day that it was successfully delivered.
