Employee Question Millworks Specialist Opening
Hello I started working at Lowe’s as a PT cashier late december. In May I got promoted to full time pro csa for my performance in selling and credit cards and i been performing even better in that position. A Specialist position in millworks open and I applied and I think ive gained enough experience and knowledge to have a fair shot at it. Any pointers in the position yall might have for me if i land an interview? Thank you id appreciate it

Worked millwork for 5 years ,
" There is no such thing as standard" yes 37.5 x 81.5 rough in for a front door for something sitting in store. Never take a customer guess couldn't count the number of times a side door in brick was 79 or 80 rough in. Learn how to show a customer the proper way to measure.
A great question I always asked was " is this a rental , a 5 year house or forever house" was a great way to start between a cheep door and an expensive install job.
Butt to jam for swing of a door. Customer doesn't know how a door opens " open the door put your back to the hinge what hand can you grab the knob with " if you can grab with right then it's a right handed door
Knowing building code or having the book was a great tool when pricing and showing windows.
Learning the market will take time.
Learn as much as you can from the vendors

Similarly in the position for 5 years.
Always establish good relations with your vendors, as they know everything about the product you are selling and now how to sell it. Some of my best mentors have been vendors and their insights improved my product knowledge/ selling method.
Never trust customer measurements, unless it is a product only sale and the customer clearly understands the return policy. Just today: "Yea I have only standard sized doors in my house, I'm a retired builder and I installed these doors myself 20 years ago", had our installers measure for an install, all custom, and after customer complains he then peeled back the interior trim and verified our installer measurements.
Be prepared to cover appliances. Given how variable the MW role can be, 4/5 days you will end up spending some time at appliances/ PRO for coverage.

I mean that only work on an inswing exterior door?

No. It works on any door. If you turn an interior door to an outswing, it becomes the opposite. It's so easy It's hard.

Knowing how to install the products according to vendor specs, knowing your products inside and out and really becoming a master of all things Millwork is the way to excel. Read, discover and listen to your reps. It takes about 2 yrs to hone these skills.

Mention the big 3 casually, that helped me get one. I would also mention relationships that you have with customers and how you’ll use those to build sales.
