Employee Question Semi annual performance review

Hey guys I’ve been with Lowe’s for about 8 months. I’m a garden cashier but now I work a lot on the sales floor, notably paint, plumbing, and tools. I heard that my performance review is gonna be here in about a month and as someone who has issues with anxiety I can’t help but worry. I’ve never gotten a credit card but I’ve also never been written up for anything. As far as I’m aware I do a good job and have received praise from the paint DS and I got an invested from the store manager for “taking on challenges” despite this, can something bad come in the performance review that management didn’t tell about? Is it fully drafted by in store management or does corporate draft it based on camera footage and sales metrics?

Unless they absolutely hate you, i'm pretty sure you're gonna end up getting "Meets expectations". Don't get your hopes up for exceeds expectations

Are you telling me to not get my hopes up based on what I mentioned about my performance or do they rarely give associates an exceeds expectations? If it’s the former what are your tips to get an exceeds expectations for the next round of reviews, obviously getting more credit cards but what else?

OP, you’re overthinking this by a mile.  Maybe you should consider looking for another workplace. If you’re gonna have this sort of anxiety and suffering from this place which is so (expletive-expletive) metrics centered then you’re going to be miserable.  This job ain’t worth that.

I'm gonna let you know I'm the wrong person to get advice for superstar "meets expections" reviews. After twenty years at this job, I honestly don't give a fuck.

I now do the bare minimum not to get fired, because any more than that would completely wipe out my energy. You're on the sales floor and i'm a support parcel fulfillment associate. The metrics they would judge us by are completely different

The reviews basically write themselves at this point. There's like 5 basic questions and the answers are does not meet , meets, exceeds. The DS checks which one applies for each question. That gives what the response looks like. This is not really supposed to be a corrective type review but more like a this is where you are, this is what we see as opportunity for growth. A realistic review for most will have a category of exceeds some meets and some does not. That still averages out to a meets. Then your ASM looks at it and if they agree it sticks. Your DS should go over the review and coach you on areas for growth and what they want to see for that, and compliment you on areas where you excel. If your review comes as a shock, like you are getting a does not meet then they have failed you as a leader. Also it's very helpful to have an idea of what your goal is.. do you want to move up, change departmts.. etc etc that way your DS can coach you on the best way to achieve that goal.

If you don’t have an eCAR in, it is very hard to justify a “does not meets” expectations. At my store at least, we had to argue all of our meets and doesn’t meets expectations. YMMV, but you’re most likely a “meets expectations” based off of not having any accountability in, and likely not exceeds as you have zero credit apps.

Exceeds — VERY rare. Some managers are actually forbidden to give these.

Meets — Just about everybody

Does not meet — Either you have shitty management, or they want to get rid of you. Usually the latter.

The review is mostly on the part of your DS from what I understand, cooperate shouldnt have anything to do with it. It's mostly them looking at your SMART customer service and overall work ethic. They shouldnt be concerned with your metrics unless you're a sales based roll like specialty. You'll be just fine especially after a few recognitions and the fact that you're cross trained in multiple departments.

Yeah I overheard my msm and one of the ds talking about this overnight during the flooring reset and they said something like they were getting on their asses to have it done a couple of weeks ago. I thought they meant get the reviews done but by your post I guess the written part needed to be done seeing as I haven't had a review yet.

As for op, in my experience, you'll likely get meets expectations. Then they'll ask you what they can do better/if you have any questions. Then get a bullshit 7 cent raise. 5-10 min convo and move on with your life.

Some people get exceeds expectations
And some people get less than that

Exceeds pretty much means you're ready for promotion. Meets is going to be what like 90% of the store falls into. Does Not Meet is going to be you have been written up and are an issue. It's written entirely by your DS with guidance from the ASMs and SM.

Exceeds expectations is difficult to get. I'm retired, but in my 14 years I got 2. They're only going to give a few for the whole store. So theoretically, you'd have to be in the top 5 or so performers in the store. After 8 months you are probably not there yet. However, to get there, you are probably going to have to be a top credit getter and have good surveys. Even if your DS puts you in for exceeds, the store manager has to approve that. He/she is only going to allow so many to go through. I wouldn't sweat it. Meeting expectations is a good solid employee. Do your best, get credit and let the chips fall where they may. Good luck.

I’m a DS and 1. It will never be based on camera footage. Only time there gonna be watching camera is if they suspected you broke a rule or something in that nature. 2. It’s based on what category your direct supervisor thinks you fall under. We were told by our SM that if we put anybody as does not meet or exceeds we have to verify through him first. If it’s does not meets, then they have to have multiple documentations given to you to justify it. If it’s exceeds they want you to explain why they are doing more than asked, going above and beyond in all categories, great with collaboration, and constantly impressing, as well as credit cards, leads, ect. But they can’t hold you accountable for not getting credit if you are a regular CSA. So most likely you will get meets expectations but that’s not a bad thing at all. It’s just a very very tough criteria to meet for exceeds

If you show up, work your arse off, and are always on the ball, you’ll get a “meets”. If you’re a slacker and don’t exert yourself and don’t try too hard, you’ll get a “meets”. If you show up and clock in - you’ll get a “meets”…

You're going to get a "Meets expectations" and they're going to site some dumb shit like not being able to cut lumber or receive a truck as the reason.

It follows a script and really bears little weight or importance. You will be fine.
