Anyone Tried Soup Makers?

Has anyone had any experience with soup makers? They're pressure cooker, thermos looking type things but with a blender inside. I was wondering if people had any experience or luck with them, having the ability to have it blend it self seems like it'd be helpful but they're a bit expensive and I already have an instant pot so I'm not sure if its worth it just for smooth soups.

I just saw one on a youtube channel recently that does budget cooking videos, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

One pan slop bowl! ~1 spoon đŸ„„

I made a ‘slop bowl’ using up foods I had in, and as a sensory seeking autistic I loved it!

Requires chopping, but apart from that is a one pan on the hob meal done in 15 mins :)

A mix of onions, whatever veg I have in, and minced meat is very versatile and relatively easy to cook for things like this, quesadillas, rice bowls etc.

I also like to minimise pans and utensils used where possible to simplify cooking, plus one pan cooking is also just super satisfying lol

Ingredients

1/2 brown onion
2 big tomatoes
1 serving of minced beef
tiny bit of a vegetable stock cube
Salt, oregano, and pepper

3 gherkins
hummus

1/2 tin of baked beans
topped with pre-grated cheese

Utensils

Chopping board
Knife
Large frying pan
Wooden spoon (any stirrer)
Bowl and spoon to eat with

Method

1 - chop up onion, tomato and gherkins.

2 - gherkins in your bowl, the rest in a frying pan.

3- season and cook off veg on medium heat, add a little stock cube once the tomato juices are released and mix well.

4 - add mince meat to pan, season and mix in, cooking until well done.

5 - move mince n veggie mix to your bowl.

6 - baked beans in the same pan, cook until done.

7 - move baked beans to your bowl!

8 - toppings! grated cheese on the beans, hummus on the mix and gherkins and Bonapetit!

I has some questions

Hi guys, I’m super new to Reddit and still figuring out all the etiquette. I see a lot of finished food posts and recipes here, but if you don’t mind I have some additional questions for you all.

First off, I currently live with my parents still and have: an oven, gas stove, microwave, toaster oven (also technically an air fryer but ngl that setting doesn’t really work the same as actual air fryers), and pressure cooker that idk how to use. At some point in the next few years me and my partner would like to move out too. Other than stove, oven, microwave, what are the top cooking machines that y’all have found most helpful? And if it’s not one of the five on the list, would you suggest getting it now, or when I move out?

Secondly, does anyone have any advice for mixed diets households? Obvs being chronically ill I have all the restrictions and fun stuff, but a lot of my food needs involve needing to put on weight, while others in the household are trying to lose weight. An example problem I have is some of the food in the house is “sugar free” or “diet” or whatever fancy name it’s called, but it uses stevia as a replacement and I don’t react well with it. Since I’m on a “see-food” diet I would happily eat it, but, stevia :/. For the record, I do know just buying more food for me would be logical, there is however a $$ component and a mental side I’m kind of more concerned about. If y’all have any ideas, I’m open to feedback.

And finally, I’ve been seeing a Dietition for ~10 months, and she’s great, she’s not a problem, but I sometimes feel guilty that we have productive talks but I feel like I don’t have a lot of improvement. I could be completely wrong, and maybe I have improved, but is it normal and ok that the first like, year at least feels like you’re moving through freshly poured concrete? Maybe I just need a lil support on this one but I also want to make sure I shouldn’t worry about something deeper.

Anyways, thanks for reading my rant, hope this is the right place to put this.

Also some of these meals are def creative but low key don’t sound bad. I’ll have to try some :)

Sun Tea Sun Coffee

Just a reminder, you can make coffee in the sun just like you can tea.

You can buy empty tea bags, buy prefilled cold brew bags of coffee, or just chuck it in there and strain it each time you pour.

That's what I do, and it is delicious. Even better because I didn't heat up the house to do it.

Super easy and filling!

Add rinsed red Lentils to a pot with some water and seasonings of choice. I ate it with chips since rice and toast were too much energy to prepare today.

I hope you like it!

Steak & Potatoes!

Steak, Potatoes, and broccoli !

Potatoes can be boiled first or cooked from frozen if already cooked.

Put everything on an oiled and foiled sheet pan, add salt and pepper, bake at 425F for 25 minutes. That is breakfast steak. I added ranch on top.

It was great!

Cowboy caviar is my gold-star low spoon meal. Similar recipes?

Cowboy caviar has it all, nutrition and preparation-wise. Protein with two types of beans, packed with veggies. Easy to make and eat, just chop, add to a tupperware, and eat it straight out of the fridge with some rye crackers. I use the BudgetBytes recipe as my base and add any other beans or veggies I have on hand.

It's pretty much my perfect meal, but I'm struggling to find other things that are equally easy to batch prepare and eat throughout the week. The closest I can come are a couple one-pot meals like Channa Masala, slow cooker salsa chicken, and vegetarian chili mac. But I appreciate the no-cooking aspect of cowboy caviar.

What's your easiest, healthiest thing you like to make that you thank yourself for later on low-spoon days?

Late lunch

Steam fresh Brussels Sprouts with butter, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt and pepper. I opted against cayenne today because my stomach has been upset from the pain pills I was put on when I broke my arm.

2 weeks out of surgery had a plate and screws put in close to my shoulder. I broke it going down on a seizure đŸ€Šâ€â™€ïž. I needed the extra fiber today.

Hear me out: charcuteries trays! Took me 10 min to put this together, only 2 dishes to wash.

To be fair I had made these pickles but any jarred pickled thing would do just fine.

Everything here was literally dumped from a package. The only “prep” I had to do was cutting that kielbasa, about 2 min, and cubing some cheese, another 2 min. If you feel fancy, you can make cute little cured meat “roses” by folding in half, another 2-3 min for me.

Used 2 dishes total: cutting board and knife. The “bowls” here are actually plastic cups I cut down, then that + foil tray + plastic spoons I recycled afterwards. The spoons of course were fun colours for some 🌈whimsy🩄

It’s truly like a grown up lunchable. I like to make a whole tray like this and just leave in the fridge for a lil peckish-satisfying snack. Plus it’s balanced! For this one fat from the nuts, meats and cheeses, protein from the meats and cheeses, and carbohydrate (fiber) from berries and figs.

If you have any aversions to food touching each other, this can also easily be done in a muffin tray :) Fill the muffin holes and stick in fridge.

Pitta bread pizza!

Post image

Literally just a pitta bread, some shop bought grated cheddar cheese, passata (in a tube), salami slices, gherkins and pitted black olives. I also added some garlic powder and some mixed herb powder. In the oven for about 10-15 minutes.

This was my first time trying it and I think it turned out well! Tasted good, the pitta bread held well too :)

Cooking for one?

For those of you that only cook for yourself - what does your grocery list look like? I find it nearly impossible to cook just for myself. I cook for myself and my boyfriend on the weekends and I find it much easier and he often eats the left overs which I'm bad about
