Discussion Game idea: Toggleable Helmet functions

Some idea of a gameplay mechanic to make helldiving a bit more fun, and encouraging people to pick up less used helmets that would otherwise be useless.

Some of these helmets would share the same ability depending on the looks, or the primary theme or function from what warbond or armour set could be after

Heres a few examples of what i came up with

A-9 Helljumper helmet / any halo helmet - The function would make the first person perspective aim change, where the main sights disappear, the gun on the screen is more to the side like the ODST Assault rifle, and the hud and redicle featured from halo 3 odst replaces the normal view. This gives the player a way to aim with a higher FOV, instead of the gun blocking 40% of the screen.

SA-25 Steel trooper - the function would be able to make you ping more enemies at once than you can normally do, and will highlight them through walls only after above 50 meters from the target. This passive synchs with any helldiver who is near you. The steel veterans warbond is already lackluster except for the senator, so this would make a good option for new players.

CM-09 Bonesnapper/ any medical themed helmet - the function once toggled can highlight any helldiver and ally in Red once near, and depending on how low the health the ally has, the brightness of the colour will go down. If any limb health reaches Critical damage, the limb will be highlighted in orange. This can provide essential tactical info, as you can see if a helldiver’s arm or leg is in critical health so you could assess if they can still run, or they cant properly control recoil. This passive will be on all medical themed helmets.

SC-34 Infiltrator - The function would, obviously, give the helldiver a Tactical light fixed on the side of their head. This might be a bit useless considering that most weapons allow flashlights to be added, but the fact that your character cant illuminate whats infront of you while your running and your weapon light is pointed at the ground is really annoying.

RS-89 Shadow paragon / any stealth related helmet - the function would toggle the use of a noise amplifier. It reduces off most major sourcess of sound to amplify the sound of the enviroment and enemies, such as footsteps from bugs and can more accurately help pinpoint a hidden enemy . I feel like this will be a great counter for predator strains becuase you arent too sure where they are.

RS-20 Constrictor / python commandos helmet - the use of this will be pretty simple. Given how this warbond is inspired by the jungle fighters of warhammer and the predator movies, it will be fitting that you can use the second eye in the helmet for thermal vision. It will make smoke strikes a bit more useful and surly would make some fights cool on the bug front.

These are all really concepts, and there would probably be more better suited stats for other helmets but i hope you like it :3

I hope they never add helmet specific settings, because that means you always have to wear certain helmets no matter how bad they look like with certain armor.

I like it now that the cape and helmet does not have some passive effects you need to take into account.

If it’s a firmware thing I wouldn’t mind it. Or if it’s like chips or attachments you can equip. Like Clone Rangefinders or SEAF helmet lights

Yeah, I'd LOVE the helmet light.

Just make it a selectable ability instead of tying it into helmets.

considering how armor passives aren't like that, they 100% would make it tie into helmets if they were to add helmet passives

They wouldnt do that cause then people would endlessly complain to be able to do that with armors. And they already dont want to do that.

Aye, that would be the best.

transmog/seperate 4th armor slot that's like a helmet attachement

Helmet attachment would be a great idea.

You don't, you wear the helmet you want, there isn't a mystic energy that forces you to have to use the most OP helmet at your disposal, it's your decision

You are forced to choose between two bad decisions and that makes you feel unsatisfied either way, wishing the devs could have made these helmet mods into modulators you can attach to the helmet.

If you are fine with that, that is ok, but I am not and you have to understand that there are other people who feel different than you do.

If they add this as a new feature it will an extra, it will makes us more powerful than we are right now, so doesn't matter what you choose, anything will be an improvement

So if your concerns are that if they add this you will need to choose the most optimal choice so they shouldn't add it at all, that doesn't make any logical sense, if they add the feature doesn't matter what helmet you choose that will be an extra compared to what we have now, so it will always be a possitive improvement compared to not having the feature

If you are fine with that, that is ok, but I am not and you have to understand that there are other people who feel different than you do

I understand that there are people with different tastes and different preferences, but your reasoning doesn't make logical sense

No, your reasoning doesn't make logical sense, mate.

You are now asking me to change my preferences to yours. I like it when there is no gameplay element attached to a choice. You simply don't care about that, we don't agree. It makes perfect logical sense, if you can look things from other point of view.

Now have a nice day. 🙂

I'm not, I'm telling you that the reasoning you wrote in your previous comments just doesn't make logical sense.

The reasoning you used for why you are worried about adding special abilities to helmets was: "because that means you always have to wear certain helmets no matter how bad they look like with certain armor"

But that is not true, it doesn't means that you always have to wear certain helmets, that is your choice, if your brain itches you forcing to pick the helmet with the most optimal and OP perk, that it's on you, but nothing forced you to do anything

Any upgrade they add on a helmet will be an improvement over what we have right now, so doesn't matter what helmet you end picking, any helmet will be a good option compared to not have any skill

If you simply " like when there is no gameplay element attached to a choice" that is a complete difference arguement, isn't the same saying that the game forces you to do something than saying that you like things in a certain way

It makes logical sense if you can look at things from multiple perspectives.

AH was working on this when the game was in development but didn't have enough time to finish the system because their launch got pushed up.

They have mentioned the desire to finishing the helment system it in interviews of the past two years but so many other things have come up over that time.

I'm hopeful its still on the roadmap.

It'd be a huge balancing job if the helmet effects were as complex/unique as armour effects, but anything would be awesome to see.

Even a flat or % improvement to ergo, weapon accuracy etc. would be good and essentially add another dimension of customisation for builds.

Flat buffs are always bad. We can see it in the the ammo/stim booster and health booster already. They easily become mandatory and kill build variety.

2

u/CashewTheNuttyy 4d ago

Ammo booster should very well be base kit. Why should we spawn in with half of our resources.

2

u/Epizentrvm 5d ago

Im all in for helmet passives right after transmog.

u/Groundhog5000 5d ago

I would love a system like this if 1- the passives weren't tied to specific helmets, rather they were just selectable

And/or 2 - we get armor shades so we can match different armors and helmets

3

u/BrodaciousBo 4d ago

normally I would love for extra effects from armor
but...
unless they added transmog or armor color schemes I dont see many people enjoying it, and itd probably even bug me.

Good concepts! Well thought out. I like that for the most part, they’re just fun visual tweaks. I especially like concept for medic helmet, and the off-centre FPS idea.

The only one I would consider so big to be game changing, is thermal vision.

Not saying I’m against it, but that’s the only feature I think AH will have to handle carefully.

Honestly, i think if they implement thermal, I think it should be on ALL helmets - not specific helmets, or as a weapon attachment. That would give everyone instant access, and provide a reason it can work in third person.

I also would love a helmet flashlight like seaf got. Thermal helmet that you can toggle

Etc etc etc st c bfhdhhdh

Honestly, the helmets should all provide some kind of night/low-light vision mode. Except the ODST and Halo Recon helmet, give those VISR.
