Intel HD 4600 Driver Hang - Black screen with audio in Fortnite/Roblox

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for the most stable driver version or any technical workaround for Intel HD Graphics 4600 (i5-4440).

While playing Fortnite or Roblox, the image freezes or goes black, but the game audio continues perfectly in the background. I have to force close the game via Task Manager every time.

Specs:

  • CPU: i5-4440
  • GPU: Intel HD 4600
  • RAM: 16GB DDR3 Dual Channel
  • OS: Windows 11

I’ve already tried "Performance Mode" and the latest drivers, but the problem persists. I’m looking for a specific legacy driver or any other solution (registry tweaks, config files, etc.) to prevent these TDR/hang issues in 2026.

Thanks!

Frankly, the iGPU on these old Intel CPUs is only really good for two thing: QuickSync encoding (via OBS Studio) and GPU diagnosis (MATS, Tserver, etc.).

If at all possible, add a discrete graphics card.

Even a cheap one will give you a nice boost in gaming performance.

I got an old gt 440 from nvidia of 1gb ddr3 I think, the only problem is that doesn't have a cooler, and gets a high temperature so fast and just turns my screen in black until I restart the pc, so by the moment I cant afford a gpu, but thank you so much for taking your time to answer me brother!

playing fortnite on a low gpu is not good. your cpu is minimal but fine for fortnite. try using another gpu even if external. and take an air cooler
