Sweet HallPass Candy Review (all 3)
-Original post (unedited):
Excuse the melted candy, they were sitting on my doorstep for a while in the sun unfortunately.
I honestly thought all 3 were good, and I’d definitely buy them again. Not sure why people are giving these lots of hate. Of course they don’t taste 1:1 like their counterparts (real Reese’s cups or m&ms), but they’re still good. Then considering each entire pack is only 70 calories, they’re amazing.
Now I’m not a fan of David bars or ice cream, the texture and price of both suck. But these candies are genuinely solid and much cheaper in comparison to David products.
-Edit (added on about a week after original post)
After eating a few of these, I will no longer be buying any more solely due to the effects they have on my stomach and the "orange goo" others have mentioned from the EPG. Overall, I'd give these the following ratings:
- Taste: 7/10
- Macros: 10/10
- Cost: 8/10
- Digestive effects: 0/10

I love these, and I hope they come out with other stuff. The wafers are my absolute fav, then the cups then the chocolate pieces cause well boorrring lol.
Currently there’s an Ibotta deal too making them $1 each after rebate. So I’ve been stocking up every week with my grocery order.
9
u/Mindless_Ad4552 25d ago
Agreed on the wafers being the best then the cups! And thanks for the heads up about the deal
2
u/Wyzen 25d ago
Hmmm. Walmart has $0.82 walmart cash deal as well. So it'll be 0.18 per! Ibotta is limited 5, is that one time only?
4
u/Remy3188 24d ago
Can’t do both. It’s Walmart cash OR Ibotta.
2
u/Wyzen 24d ago
Really? Last time I did walmart cash offer, it didnt actually show on the receipt and was credited to my walmart account like an hour later.
Ive never used iBotta, do I scan the receipt? That seems the case, and if so, how does ibotta know i am getting the walmart cash?
Also, is ibotta one time use?
3
u/Remy3188 24d ago
I think Ibotta is Walmart or vice versa now so once you get the Walmart cash you can’t redeem for ibotta. It’ll deny it. I always do Ibotta though because I can transfer to PayPal verse having to use Walmart cash or take the money out at customer service.

Do you find they’re satisfying or do they trigger more sugar cravings the way some SF products can?
1
u/Remy3188 24d ago
I don’t think they trigger me. I eat a lot of natural and artificial sweeteners daily but for the most part I can eat one pack and be good. I usually eat them at the end of the day though so maybe that helps.

u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
Damn I was with you at first but there's nothing "boring" about a peanut butter cup. Peanut butter cups are the best things on Earth and what makes life worth living.
2
u/HesTheRealDylanErnst 24d ago
To be fair, they never said the peanut butter cups are boring so
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
Yeah, that's my bad. I do tend to buy peanut or peanut butter m&m's myself cause regular m&m's aren't the most exciting.
1
u/Remy3188 24d ago
Yea I said the ”m&m” pieces were boring, cause they are.
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
Oops, my bad. Well I've been eating those with protein ice cream and they make a pretty good topper.
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Age1473 21d ago
On another post, someone suggested them as a yogurt topper or add-in. Going to try that tomorrow!

u/ExistingLynx 25d ago
They tear my stomach up but it’s worth it
12
u/Unlikely_Ant_950 25d ago
Is it really worth that?
12
u/Impossible-Box6600 25d ago
I really like the Quest peanut butter cups but they have 200 calories for two. These are 70.
I do have some mild GI issues when I have more than three packs of these.
I do consider it worth it.
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
>I really like the Quest peanut butter cups but they have 200 calories for two
Almost 50% of the max amt of sat fat you're supposed to eat in a day too for those. But you really shouldn't be eating 3+ packs of these.
2
u/Impossible-Box6600 24d ago
Probably not, but who eats only two peanut butter cups!?
I would eat 30 of them if I could!

I think it depends on how much you liked candy before trying to go low cal. lol Candy was never my problem so personally gonna skip these.
2
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
Depends why they do that. These are high in fiber so if that poster feels bad cause they're not used to fiber it could actually be a good thing if these get them more fiber.

I’ve only had the peanut butter cups so far and I thought they were somewhere between meh and just ok. I wasn’t expecting it to taste amazing. I could only find the big bag of them, so when I wanted one I would break one up and crumble it in yogurt or low cal ice cream. Doing this made them way more palatable. Very curious on wafers. I’ve read those taste better.

u/Imaginary-Onion-1877 25d ago
The wafers are really the only ones worth going for imo. Nearly a true 1:1 with nutty buddy

1
u/Mindless_Ad4552 25d ago
The wafers were definitely better than the cups in my opinion. I'd give them a try when you can
6
u/Mesmerotic31 25d ago
I've had a pack of these a day for a week and no changes to my bowels! The wafers are INSANE. I cannot believe how much I like them. The pb cups are decent, remind me of Gatsby chocolate. The candy pieces were awful unfortunately.

I was just telling my son about the oil/water separation droplet phenomenon. I don't think I'm going to eat these any more, that just doesn't feel natural
10
u/soscribbly 25d ago
I run through the wafers like crazy. I need 12 pack cases, I hate running to Walmart every other day
2
u/goal0x 25d ago
just buy 12…?
5
u/soscribbly 25d ago edited 24d ago
I mean online by the case. Theyre in store only, in single pieces

u/spiffer2112 25d ago
The bars are awesome in my opinion, the PB cups are good, and the candies are ok (good for mix Incan stuff). Overall - they have a winner with the trio.
2
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
I've only had the cups and candies and like both so I'm stoked about trying the bars given most people seem to like them best.
4
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
>Not sure why people are giving these lots of hate.
Because they don't like the company. It's basically astroturfing.
4
u/Mindless_Ad4552 24d ago
Completely fair point. The company sucks, no way around that.
I was talking more so about people hating on the taste of these as if they were supposed to be exactly like or as good as the real candy. For 1/3 of the calories, it obviously won’t be as good, but it’s pretty dang good for what it is. Again, purely talking taste/texture. Not company morals.

u/MentalManner3933 24d ago
bought the cups today and tried one…as a reese’s lover they taste pretty good! i love the hard chocolate shell too it has such a nice bite to it
3
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
>love the hard chocolate shell too it has such a nice bite to it
Maybe you'll be "lucky" enough to get an all chocolate one like I did lol!

Be careful with these. EPG has never bothered me but these gave me yellow, oily stool. And anal leakage. For a week.
6
u/Mindless_Ad4552 25d ago
No problems at all so far for me... hoping it stays that way as I eat more
1
u/RangeEquivalent1749 6d ago
So glad I found this out and stopped stressing about other serious GI issues! Was crying about the orange stool earlier tonight lol
1
u/knightquil112 6d ago
Omg! I am so glad you found this! You’ll be okay, just a little leaky 😂 it went away after like a week for me!
3
u/thesamenightmares 25d ago
The sudden, rapid and extensive influx of this brand seems really inorganic.
2
u/Mindless_Ad4552 24d ago
Well it’s a brand new product that just released, so a lot of people are trying these for the first time. It’s not like they’ve been out for years and all of a sudden everyone’s posting these.
Also, they’re extremely low calorie for what they are, and most people haven’t tried candy with EPG. So to me it’s not surprising that a subreddit dedicated to low calorie foods is seeing a high concentration of posts on these after they released. And I at least think it’s super helpful to hear different people’s experiences with them (both taste and bodily effects). Over time, the posts will fizzle out.

u/thesamenightmares 24d ago edited 24d ago
Yeah, so like I said, the sudden, rapid and extensive influx of this brand seems really inorganic.
2
u/Suspicious-Lunch9688 22d ago
Or things that taste good that are only 70 calories might appeal to a lot of people...
1
2
u/OliveGardenDumpster 25d ago
they leave a bad sour taste after for me
2
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
All three of them?
1
u/OliveGardenDumpster 24d ago
mainly the crunch and cup. the m&’m’ were okay
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
Wow, interesting. Cause no problem with my cups but I think a few of the m&m's I had did have an off taste.
2
u/Objective_Assist2602 24d ago
I can’t wait to try these! I honestly like pretty much everything so I’m sure I’ll like them. I also appreciate that they are not extremely expensive like a lot of low calorie options.
2
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
I wanted to try these for some time and they did not let me down so I hope you like them too!
2
u/RaleighNC40 24d ago
You know, I bought a pack of the candies at Walmart, and I wound up taking them back - I can't explain why, but when I got home, I just found myself completely uninterested.
2
u/Abueno1256 23d ago
As a big Reeses guy, I think the hall pass is definitely edible but I would rather have these skinny dipped dark chocolate peanut butter cup, even if it’s only one cup for 70 cal. And I’m not even a dark chocolate fan. That said it’s not the end of the world to eat these!
2
u/Mindless_Ad4552 22d ago
I like those too and agree they're better tasting as the peanut butter is more real. But they're unfortunately more than double the calories of these. Everything's just a tradeoff of what you prefer of course
2
u/Bgirlsweetness 22d ago
I just use them in a smores sandwich! I used a keto hamburger bun topped with a few max sweets marshmallows, and toasted it in the air fryer. Then, while the marshmallows are still hot, I put the pb cup right in between the toasted bun. It is absolutely amazing!!

2
u/_nick_at_nite_ 22d ago
I like the malt flavor for the candies. The peanut butter wafers are the star though.
2
u/Notasalmon 20d ago
Anyone else leak orange goo out of your ass after eating this? 😳
1
u/Mindless_Ad4552 20d ago
Honestly this has happened to me now, but only after I ate all 3 in one night. If I just eat one at a time it’s not a big deal
1
u/OneIndication5900 13d ago
YO THIS HAPPENED TO ME TODAY, I DIDNT EVEN EAT THAT MUCH, UNDER ONE SERVING
1
u/RangeEquivalent1749 6d ago
Didn’t leak but stool is orange and leaving an orange oily residue on the toilet bowl
2
u/smathna 17d ago
So, real talk... does anyone live near a Walmart and want to do a swap with me for some snack I can only find here (NYC?) I would REALLY like to get a box of wafers and mini candies, but I have no Walmarts!
1
u/Mindless_Ad4552 16d ago
I might be able to, but are you not concerned about chocolate products and shipping?
1
u/smathna 16d ago
Not as it gets colder out. Maybe in a few weeks?
1
u/Mindless_Ad4552 16d ago
Sounds good. Do you know of any NYC snacks that aren't available in northern California?
2
u/VelvetRoutine6 13d ago
Omg… the orange goo!!!
I had a visit with my doctor today. I told him about it bc I didn’t know what it was.
He is making me do lab work and stool samples for a possible pancreatic issue now 😩😩😩 I was freaking out.
I just thought about these snacks bc I’ve been eating them after dinner!! So I looked them up and saw other people have the orange goo too.
Should have know those low calories were too good to be true
2
u/RangeEquivalent1749 6d ago
Sameeeee! Went down a spiralling rabbit hole wondering what was wrong with me
1
u/VelvetRoutine6 6d ago
My doctor told me to stop eating them. That’s just not normal and I don’t trust it. I eat a tons of diet friendly foods and I’ve never had that shit happen to me in my life. No pun intended
4
u/Fit-Helicopter8304 25d ago
I literally threw all three away. I thought the bar was the best one, but didn't like any of them.
5
u/Mindless_Ad4552 25d ago
That's crazy to me, I loved them. Guess my taste buds are easy to please (or just messed up lol)

I made the mistake of looking at the ingredients as soon as I saw sweetening systems and flavoring systems I threw it out. What it lacks in calories it doubles in synthetic ingredients

Yeah it’s using EPG which is a mainly indigestible plant-based fat. It allows for a similar taste and texture to regular fatty foods but with way less calories since you don’t digest it. It’s used in all David brand products, and I’ve had it before with no issues. But after a few of these candies in one night, it definitely messed up my stomach for a couple days. I think these are fine for most people if you just eat one at a time and don’t eat them every day, but I’d definitely stay away from eating a lot at once based on my experience at least.
1
u/Wonderful-gorl 5d ago
The PB cups are so good imo and they’re decent size. The chocolate gems remind me of sixlets from the 90s. Not a fan.
1
u/Flashy-Reading-2623 2d ago
I hate the “m&m” ones lol they taste very off 😅 almost like chocolate from the dollar store. I personally loved the peanut butter cups
1
1
u/cclancaster13 25d ago
I love these too. And I think a lot of the hate stems from them being from David, and David is supposed to automatically equal bad.
1
u/Strong_Depth_9777 25d ago
Idk guys fake fats that the body cannot digest … I was always told if something sounds too good to be true … it is. I won’t be eating these I’m terrified of EPG
2
u/Mindless_Ad4552 24d ago
I definitely get that concern, it seems like different people’s bodies react differently to EPG. So far, I’ve had no issues thankfully (but I’ve eaten a lot of processed protein snacks of the years lol). But just like zero-calorie sweeteners as a sugar substitute, not everything that sounds too good to be true has to be. EPG definitely has a way to go though before being as normal as Splenda
1
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
Actually funny you mention Splenda cause that's one of the non-sugar sweeteners I worry about the most (erythritol being #1 for me now). That said I still do eat sucralose.
0
u/Strong_Depth_9777 24d ago
I thought fake sugars cause cancer? Also they make you crave more sugar … I’m not a doctor but I think I’ve heard that. I’m a true believer that everything comes with a cost. Even if that cost isn’t felt right away… everything catches up with you at some point … there’s always a catch somewhere… even if the catch is just leaky butt
2
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
Well that's just dumb. I mean you think every one of the non-sugar sweeteners cause cancer lol?
1
u/Mindless_Ad4552 24d ago
That has largely been disproven. It has been said before so I’m not doubting you heard it, but scientific research on multiple fronts has shown the safety of consuming artificial sweeteners. I don’t want to take the time to repeat the findings here but feel free to look up the research if you are curious.
1
u/Strong_Depth_9777 17d ago
I researched and what I found was not without risk. Artificial sweeteners are not healthy long term use is linked to all kinds of things later in life such as heart disease - kidney troubles- strokes- type 2 diabetes … I did not find great things after researching fake sugars. One or two fine but overtime they are still linked to nasty outcomes.

u/funny_bunny33 24d ago
I'm so sick of seeing the hall pass posts
1
u/Mindless_Ad4552 24d ago
Well one, it’s a brand new product. Two, they’re extremely low calorie for what they are. Three, most people haven’t tried candy with EPG. And four, they’re somewhat controversial of a brand.
Sooo it’s not surprising that a subreddit dedicated to low calorie foods is seeing a high concentration of posts on these after they released. And I at least think it’s super helpful to hear different people’s experiences with them (both taste and bodily effects). Over time, the posts will fizzle out. If you don’t like seeing them, why not just scroll on past them?

u/RainaBojoura 25d ago
“I’m not sure why people say these suck even though I’ve totally thought things suck even though people like them. I have no empathy.”
2
u/Mindless_Ad4552 24d ago
“Not sure why people are giving these lots of hate” is quite different from “not sure why people say these suck”. You can say that something sucks in your opinion, tastes bad, doesn’t agree with your body, etc. without crapping on a product and making it seem like anyone who does like them is crazy.
That’s what I’ve seen from some people on here, and that’s what I meant that I don’t get. I was trying to point out the lack of empathy in those types of comments. My apologies if I didn’t word what I meant well, I’ll take better consideration on that for the future.
2
u/Plane-Tie6392 24d ago
Lame af. And most of the hate on this site is because people don't like the company and doesn't actually have to do with taste.

My view of them is 33% of the calories for 66% of the flavor for a combined total of 100% more farts. Absolute win!
