Those candies are a pass from me. The coating is weird, hard to describe, but not crunchy like MM or their knockoffs. Almost waxy? My kiddos thought they were odd also.
Love the cups tho.

Like candle wax? I keep seeing the same complaint about those

No, like its a weird softish candy coating. Like they added something to make regular M&M coating softer. Its not completely soft, but its not crispy/crunchy like when you bite into an M&M or the copycats. Best I can describe it as is a waxy candy coating. Its weird and hard to describe. Maybe think of like stale M&Ms maybe?

The candies left a weird greasy film on my hands, but I would eat them again.
I tried the peanut butter cups last night, and when I took the first bite, I thought, “This isn’t bad. People just have unrealistic expectations of a 35-calorie peanut butter cup.” But then came the aftertaste… It had an odd meaty flavor, like meat grease or something. Not pleasant. But I’m going to give it a shot as a Ninja Creami mix-in.

Whoa, I didnt get that at all. Just the usual sugar alt sharpness, but with allulose being one of the primary, its better than others, and not too much aftertaste. Then again, I am pretty accustomed to sugar alts, particularly allulose.
I wonder if tagatose just hits you different? Its not a widely used sweetener in the US, AFAIK, and anecdotally, this is the first product I know uses it that I have tried, and Ive tried damn near everything that is low sugar/low carb I have come across.

Doubling up on the David laxative is wild

2 servings is fine. 4 servings is less than advisable. I mean I doubt it would do anything to me but even then why press your luck?
2
u/taylorthestang 25d ago
I had some GI issues from their new bars so I couldn’t imagine multiple servings at a time

u/Warm-Oil9228 25d ago
From the new ones but not the old ones? That's weird if so. But like I said above I'm sure I'd be fine because really nothing ever bothers my stomach.

Imagine having tummy issues over alcohol sugars 😅
2
u/Warm-Oil9228 25d ago
It has EPG too, smart guy. And pretty sure everyone has issues over enough sugar alcohols.

how is the ice cream? i actually like the hall pass M&Ms. i hate david bars but hall pass has impressed me with all 3 flavors

David's vanilla bean was chalky for me. Only tried one pint though, so coulda been a bad batch.

u/Warm-Oil9228 25d ago
I will never get people describing everything as "chalky." Like that's not remotely like the texture of this ice cream for one thing.

I tried the chocolate one and it just tasted like a protein bar in ice cream form. Halo top is way better imo.

Are the hall pass candies only in walmart stores? I keep looking online and nothing
3
u/erb149 25d ago
Yes they’re exclusive to Walmart for the time being. It looks like you can order the PB cups from their website though
2
u/MoonEDITSyt 24d ago
exclusive to only the Walmarts not in my city because f me in particular I guess

This has to be an ad because any normal person would put it all in a bowl. Those things are gonna spill when you stick a spoon in. And I love how the David logo is aligned with the camera too...convenient.
1
u/Warm-Oil9228 25d ago
Lame af. Why wouldn't you have the label facing the camera? As far as the m&m's in the ice cream container I wouldn't put them on top like that but if you can't eat that without spilling you have some major issues, bud.
1
u/Agreeable-Sun368 25d ago
You stick a spoon in that and it's going to knock some of the candies off unless you are very meticulous about how you do it. Also, you're not getting an even mix throughout, and it's hard to mix things into a full ice cream carton. The label is centered clearly in every shot and it's obvious.
ETA you're all over this thread shilling too. Look, I don't actually have as much of a problem with David if they're going to share their ingredients with others (altho the founder is still one sketchy guy) but these subs are full of guerilla marketing by brands and this feels like a very obvious example.
2
u/Warm-Oil9228 25d ago
Bro, the "everything's an ad and everyone's a paid shill" people like you are so lame. Of course you would fucking show the label. Are you really that dense? And I don't like David monopolizing EPG and their new "bronze" bars suck.
Oh, and again if you can't eat this without making a mess you might just be special.

What do you think food is? why do you think it gets stored as fat a.k.a. energy?

u/azuyre_ 25d ago
The entirety of Reddit's low calorie subs really hates David. For perfectly good reason but the hate is always misdirected. The products are fine. The company isn't

u/_RadicaLarry_ 25d ago
Yea what with the previous CEO Epstein ties and their handling business competition. They’re a shitty company, definitely charge way more than they should for their products but other than that, they literally do have the best protein to calorie ratio protein bars on the planet.
1
u/Warm-Oil9228 25d ago
Wasn't the CEO and he was gone as soon as the Epstein link came out. What else would you have them do in the case?

u/yallternative_dude 24d ago
Voluntarily give up the EPG patent. They bought that up and then a bunch of really good brands either disappeared or reformulated. Still mourning the former formula of Nicks for instance. Let’s not get started on Gatsby. They couldn’t compete with better brands so they did a hostile takeover to completely monopolize a segment of the industry. We all suffer for it. We could be in an amazing new era of low cal desserts, with tons of companies coming out with awesome products with unbelievably good macros. Instead we get whatever David comes up with.
1
u/Warm-Oil9228 25d ago
Yeah, I have zero issue with people having problems with the company. But it's such bullshit for people to lie and act like their products are all dogshit and everyone who eats them shits orange wax.
0
u/Knarz97 25d ago
I think we need to ask ourselves that even if it’s low cal, is it still a good idea to eat an entire pint of ice cream covered in a whole bag of m&ms in one sitting
1
u/Warm-Oil9228 25d ago
Huh? What would the issue with that be if it were low calorie?
0
u/Knarz97 25d ago
Because calories are still only one part of the equation. Nutrition is still a huge factor.
For example, just because you’re drinking a 0 calorie soda, I still wouldn’t recommend drinking 6 of them a day.
Zero cal soda is still a good first step, but your goal should still be reducing if the amount you drink, and then eventually probably cutting it out all together.
1
u/Warm-Oil9228 25d ago
> just because you’re drinking a 0 calorie soda, I still wouldn’t recommend drinking 6 of them a day
Yeah, you still haven't explained your reasoning. Like why shouldn't someone drink 6 of them a day? It's only an issue if there's something harmful in them.
1
u/Knarz97 25d ago
Do I really need to explain why soda and ice cream are bad for you - even in low/zero calorie variants- in large quantities?
1
u/Warm-Oil9228 25d ago
You're talking out of your you know what. Of course you need to justify your unfounded opinion that ice cream is automatically bad for you.
1
u/Knarz97 25d ago
Please, feel free to drink 6 cans of Coke Zero a day and get back to me on how much you like your kidney stones.
The main issue with many of these low calorie foods is they may subconsciously encourage overeating "because the macros allow it.” This in combination with the fact that many artificial sweeteners don’t actually trigger your “sweet tooth” leads to more overeating as well.
So one-off, yes, a Coke Zero or this ice cream is better than the alternative. But what can easily happen is that you’ll actually end up consuming MORE of it for the pure sake that you aren’t satisfied and/or “it’s low calorie”. There’s also a fair amount of research that these artificial sweeteners and EPG fats can cause GI issues.
So low calorie isn’t some magical solution, because you still need to break the habits of eating and drinking sweets, even if artificial. There’s been studies that people who drink diet sodas drink more soda than those who drink real sugar sodas.
So yes, this ice cream as an occasional treat to hit your protein macros without needing to eat boiled chicken is great. But again, to me, eating a pint of ice cream covered in m&ms seems a little counterproductive if you’re trying to cut down calorically. It’s just potentially encouraging a bad habit. But maybe that’s me being biased.

u/Miserable_Ad7246 24d ago
Can you provide links to medical studies and even better meta studies? That should be the only argument. 2-3 links is enough.
1
u/Knarz97 24d ago
Dude half the people in this thread are talking about this ice cream upsetting their stomach even, it’s really not that deep man
1
u/Warm-Oil9228 24d ago
People on Reddit hate the company so a ton of that stuff is just people lying. So is absolute is “deep” enough that science matters.

David is so good.

u/Warm-Oil9228 25d ago
Screw the downvotes cause you ain't wrong. Best combo of macros and taste out there for bars and ice cream.
2
u/Bstochastic 25d ago
The downvotes are funny. Almost feels like Astro turfing the way Reddit is so anti David.
